Ranking the Best Fights from UFC 299 and 300
Ranking the Best Fights from UFC 299 and 300

UFC 300 is all anybody can talk about these days.
UFC 100 and 200 were two of the biggest events in the promotion's history, featuring appearances from legends such as Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, Jose Aldo, Michael Bisping and Brock Lesnar, and it has always been evident that UFC 300 will be similarly stacked.
So far, it is living up to expectations. While the April 13 card in Las Vegas does not yet have an official main event, the promotion has already added 11 fights to the bill, and they are all excellent.
The amazing thing is that UFC 299, which goes down in Miami on March 9, is arguably even better than the landmark UFC 300 card, with 13 incredible fights already official.
Between the two cards, it's going to be an amazing couple of weeks for fight fans. Keep scrolling for the 10 best fights that have been booked for UFC 299 and 300 so far.
10. Jim Miller vs. Bobby Green (UFC 300)

Jim Miller has competed in more UFC fights than any other fighter in history, and that includes appearances on the UFC 100 and 200 bills. It's been clear for some time that the UFC intended to find him a spot on the UFC 300 bill, and the promotion recently made it official by booking him against a fellow veteran in Bobby Green.
It has the potential to be the biggest moment in Miller's legendary career, and like most other fights on the bill, it should also be a lot of fun.
Even at 40 years old, Miller is an excellent finisher, as evidenced by his recent knockout of Jesse Butler and submission of Gabriel Benitez.
The same can be said of the 37-year-old Green. He's riding a tough knockout loss to Jalin Turner, but that was preceded by a lightning quick knockout of the streaking Dwight Grant and a submission win over lightweight legend Tony Ferguson.
Anything could happen in this one.
9. Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Cody Garbrandt (UFC 300)

After scoring a first-round stoppage win over Brian Kelleher at UFC 296 in December, former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt called for a fight with Brazil's Deiveson Figueiredo, a former flyweight champ who made a successful debut at bantamweight with a decision win over Rob Font earlier the same month.
Garbrandt got his wish.
The two former champs are set to meet at UFC 300, and all signs point to a wild fight. Garbrandt has finished 11 of his 14 wins by knockout or TKO, and Figueiredo has earned stoppages in 11 of his 22 wins in the same fashion. Both guys also have some solid grappling to fall back on, but it seems far more likely this one gets settled on the feet, and quickly.
8. Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway (UFC 300)

The UFC's "BMF" title will be up for grabs at UFC 300, with Justin Gaethje defending the belt against Max Holloway in a lightweight contest.
The BMF title may be a corny and utterly pointless novelty, but there is no denying this is a ridiculously good fight. Gaethje, who won the belt with a head-kick KO of Dustin Poirier last summer, is one of the most destructive fighters in UFC history, with a staggering list of highlight-reel finishes on his resume.
Holloway doesn't have quite as many stoppages on his resume but is one of the greatest featherweights of all time and one of the most durable fighters we've ever seen in the Octagon.
It remains to be seen who leaves Las Vegas as the BMF champ, but there is no question this is going to be a ridiculously entertaining fight. Neither Gaethje nor Holloway is capable of anything less.
7. Zhang Weili vs. Xiaonan Yan (UFC 300)

So far, there is only one legitimate title fight on the UFC 300 bill, and it's extremely significant for Chinese MMA. In one corner, we'll have reigning strawweight champion Zhang Weili. In the other, her countrywoman Yan Xiaonan. It will be the first time in UFC history that two Chinese fighters will compete for a title.
There's a lot more to this fight than the historical significance, however.
Throughout two championship title reigns Zhang has established herself as one of the best fighters in strawweight history, finishing fellow greats like Jessica Andrade, Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Carla Esparza, and most recently, beating the breaks off the dangerous Amanda Lemos to defend her belt.
Yan is no slouch herself, with wins over fighters such as Angela Hill, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Mackenzie Dern, and most recently, Andrade, who she flattened with a first-round counter right hand last May.
6. Petr Yan vs. Song Yadong (UFC 299)

It's very hard to make a bad fight in the men's bantamweight division. The weight class is crowded with world-class fighters, and several of them will be in action at UFC 299, including former champ Petr Yan from Russia and Chinese contender Song Yadong.
For Yan, it'll be the chance to bounce back from three straight losses–dubious split decisions against Aljamain Sterling and Sean O'Malley, and a much clearer unanimous-decision loss to Merab Dvalishvili. Song, meanwhile, will be looking for a third straight win against arguably the best opponent he's faced to date.
The real appeal of this fight, though, is that the two bantamweights match up beautifully on paper. They're both excellent boxers with serious knockout power, so there's a good chance we'll be treated to a pretty impressive finish.
5. Gilbert Burns vs. Jack Della Maddalena (UFC 299)

Even after a pair of questionable split-decision wins over Bassil Hafez and Kevin Holland, Australia's Jack Della Maddalena is one of the hottest contenders in the welterweight division.
At UFC 299, he will get a massive step up in competition in the form of former title challenger Gilbert Burns.
This fight has all the makings of a thriller.
Della Maddalena is an excellent boxer with devastating stopping power. Burns isn't quite as slick with his hands, but has plenty of knockout power of his own, and is arguably the best Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist in the weight class.
There's almost no chance this one goes the distance, and whoever comes out on top will be right in the welterweight title conversation.
4. Sean O'Malley vs. Marlon Vera (UFC 299)

Petr Yan and Song Yadong won't be the only top bantamweights in action at UFC 299. In the Miami card's main event, champion Sean O'Malley will look for the first defense of his title reign against No. 6-ranked contender and fellow fan favourite Marlon "Chito" Vera.
This fight will be all about vengeance for O'Malley. The champion has lost just once 18 pro fights, and that loss came at the hands–and feet–of Chito in 2020. At UFC 299, he'll be looking to prove that loss was a fluke, while Chito will be out to prove he's simply the better man in the cage.
The backstory alone makes this fight very alluring, but both men are also extremely dangerous knockout strikers, which means the fight will have plenty of action to match the rematch drama.
3. Kevin Holland vs. Michael Page (UFC 299)

Former Bellator star Michael Page has long been considered one of the flashiest strikers in MMA, drawing frequent comparisons to the great Anderson Silva. At UFC 299, he'll make his UFC debut, and the promotion has found a near-perfect dance partner for the British knockout artist in Kevin Holland.
Holland might be a tad less refined than Page on the feet, but he shares the Brit's propensity for highlight-reel KOs and is arguably even more unpredictable than his rival. He's also five years younger than Page, which could give him an edge when the strikes start flying.
One way or the other, UFC brass are going to want to have the bonus checks ready when these two enter the cage.
The winner is also going to take a big step toward title contention. That will be particularly true if Page, a countryman and rival of reigning welterweight champ Leon Edwards, gets it done in style.
2. Dustin Poirier vs. Benoit Saint-Denis (UFC 299)

Much like his recent foil Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier's fights are pretty much guaranteed to deliver excitement. His next fight should be no different.
In the UFC 299 co-main event, the former interim lightweight champion will look to rebound from his knockout loss to Gaethje against France's Benoit Saint-Denis, who is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about new contenders in the weight class.
Poirier will have a massive advantage in terms of experience in this fight, and has proved he can finish pretty much anybody on the feet or on the mat, but will have his hands full with the hard-charging Saint-Denis.
The Frenchman has won five straight fights in the Octagon. That includes knockouts of Matt Frevola and Thiago Moises in his last two fights, which were particularly impressive considering he's a grappler at his roots, with nine submissions among his 14 career wins, none of which have gone the distance.
1. Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan (UFC 300)

Picking the best fight among all those announced for UFC 299 and UFC 300 so far is very difficult. However, there is one that really stands out from the rest: a lightweight clash between former champ Charles Oliveira and red-hot contender Arman Tsarukyan, scheduled for UFC 300.
Oliveira, who is riding an impressive TKO win over Beneil Dariush, is easily one of the best lightweights in UFC history, and is perhaps only outranked by the great Khabib Nurmagomedov. He's had a few tough losses over the years but has finished a ridiculous 21 wins by submission, and 10 by knockout, which has helped him set the record for most finishes in UFC history, at 20.
Then there's Tsarukyan. Seven years younger than the 34-year-old Oliveira, he has only lost twice in the Octagon, first to reigning lightweight champ Islam Makhachev, and more recently, to surging contender Mateusz Gamrot. Both losses came by decision.
Much like Oliveira, the Armenian is a finisher through and through, with nine knockouts and five submissions among his 21 wins. His last win, a 64-second knockout against the former top contender Dariush, was particularly impressive.
This fight has all the makings of a barn burner, as the veteran Oliveira takes on the upstart Tsarukyan, and unless Justin Gaethje blows Max Holloway away later on the card, the winner will probably get the next shot at the belt.
