It's hard to believe, but the 2023 XFL season is already half over. The third iteration of the novel spring league has been exciting through the first five weeks, and the playoff races in the North and South conferences are beginning to heat up.

The 5-0 D.C. Defenders remain the league's one undefeated team, and it has a strong lead in the North after knocking off the St. Louis Battlehawks (3-2) last week. The 4-1 Houston Roughnecks), meanwhile, hold a one-game lead over the Arlington Renegades (3-2) in the South.

Houston lost its first game of the season in Week 5, a 21-14 contest against the surging Seattle Sea Dragons. The Vegas Vipers, meanwhile, picked up their first victory a week ago, knocking off the Orlando Guardians in a 35-32 thriller.

Orlando is now the only team in the XFL seeking its first victory of the season.

The Renegades defeated the San Antonio Brahmas 12-10 in the Week 5 finale, and those two will have a rematch on Sunday. The Defenders and Roughnecks will close out Week 6 with a Monday night showdown between two of the league's best.

Here, you'll find everything you need to know for Week 6, including scheduling information, odds and updated fantasy rankings.

Week 6 Analysis

Sea Dragons QB Ben DiNucci
Sea Dragons QB Ben DiNucci

With half of the XFL season in the rearview, we have a good idea of which teams are viable contenders and which are not. The Guardians, with all due respect, fall in the latter group. The Sea Dragons, who have won four straight, are heavy favorites for a reason, and it will be a surprise if they don't cover against arguably the worst defense in the league.

It's a great week to play Seattle's fantasy standouts, too. Quarterback Ben DiNucci, wideout Jahcour Pearson and running back Morgan Ellison are all strong plays against Orlando this week.

The Battlehawks also look like a strong play against the Vipers, whose lone win came against Orlando. St. Louis is only a field-goal favorite, and I'd expect AJ McCarron—one of the league's top quarterbacks—and the offense to get the job done on the road.

I also expect the Renegades to cover against the Brahmas in the rematch at home.

Monday night's finale is a tougher one to sort out. It's hard to pick against an undefeated team playing at home (and I wouldn't), but if there's a team that can knock off D.C. at this point in the season, it's Houston.

Aside from McCarron and those Battlehawks, the usual suspects project as the top fantasy plays in both yearly and daily fantasy sports (DFS) games. DiNucci, McCarron and Brandon Silvers remain the top quarterbacks, with Luis Perez a distant fourth—Vegas' tendency to platoon him with Brett Hundley is a problem for managers.

Jordan Ta'amu (208 rushing yards, 2 TDs) should get a bump in leagues/games that heavily reward quarterback rushing.

Abram Smith lands at the top of this week's rankings following a stunning 216-yard, three-touchdown performance in Week 5. Brian Hill, Morgan Ellison, Max Borghi, De'Veon Smith and Rod Smith remain viable starting RB options as well.

We do have a bit of a shakeup at receiver, with Roughnecks standout receiver Jontre Kirklin expected to miss the rest of the season.

With Kirklin out, we're bumping up Travell Harris, who caught five passes for 58 yards in Week 5.

Sal Cannella, Cody Latimer and Alizé Mack remain the top fantasy tight ends, and really, the only ones worth rostering in DFS games.
