NHL Power Rankings: Where Every Team Stands 1 Month from the Trade Deadline
NHL Power Rankings: Where Every Team Stands 1 Month from the Trade Deadline

OK, it may finally be time for the last holdout to admit it: The Vancouver Canucks are for real.
The NHL's resident British Columbia franchise was dismissed as a nice early story, but enough time has passed—50 games as of Tuesday—that coach Rick Tocchet and Co. have to be considered as legitimate a Stanley Cup threat as any of the other 31 teams.
The Canucks have amassed 18 of a possible 20 points across their last 10 games (8-0-2), which is the same as the Edmonton Oilers (9-1-0), whose historic win streak ended Tuesday.
Not surprisingly, the consistent excellence resulted in another week atop the B/R Power Rankings for Vancouver, which is seven points clear of second-place Vegas in the Pacific Division and two up on Boston in the race for the Presidents' Trophy.
The Bruins remain second after receiving all but one second-place vote to stay ahead of the Dallas Stars, who spiked four spots from seventh to third. The Colorado Avalanche stay in fourth for another week, while the No. 5 slot is taken by the Florida Panthers ahead of a two-way tie for sixth between the Oilers and Winnipeg Jets.

32. Chicago Blackhawks

Previous Ranking: 32
Overall Record: 14-35-2
It's the middle of a Connor Bedard-less slog for the punchless Blackhawks, who were shut out three times in a four-game losing streak before the break and four times in their last six.
Chicago is tied for last in goal-scoring and last by itself in power-play efficiency.
31. San Jose Sharks

Previous Ranking: 31
Overall Record: 14-32-5
You can't get worse if you don't play, right?
The Sharks are in the middle of an extended break that will keep them away until a February 14 visit to Winnipeg. They are three points up on Chicago in the race to escape the NHL cellar.
30. Columbus Blue Jackets

Previous Ranking: 29
Overall Record: 16-24-10
The Blue Jackets won just twice in six games across the second half of January, but a 1-0 victory at St. Louis was a welcome sendoff into the break.
They will return at home Saturday before setting off on a four-game road trip that begins in Ottawa and veers to California.
29. Anaheim Ducks

Previous Ranking: 30
Overall Record: 18-30-2
Don't look now, but there are signs of life for the Ducks, who went 3-0-1 in their last four games before the All-Star break.
They return with a home game against Edmonton before packing for a trip that will take them to Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Buffalo.
28. Ottawa Senators

Previous Ranking: 28
Overall Record: 20-25-2
The Senators won two in a row and were 5-1-2 in eight games before adjourning, and they will return for three straight home games to try to prolong their mojo.
"I think we're going in the right direction," head coach Jacques Martin said. "We seem to be maturing, and we're handling the ups and downs of a game better."
27. Minnesota Wild

Previous Ranking: 26
Overall Record: 21-23-5
It's been a tale of two seasons since the arrival of coach John Hynes in late November.
The Wild were 11-3 in his first 16 games on the job but tailed off to a 5-10-1 mark in their last 16 before Wednesday's game against the Blackhawks.
A 30th-best penalty-kill percentage (73.5) wasn't helping matters any.
26. Montreal Canadiens

Previous Ranking: 27
Overall Record: 21-21-8
A 10-day break from game action yielded a refreshed Montreal team in a 5-2 road defeat of Washington on Tuesday.
Juraj Slafkovsky scored twice and Cole Caufield got an assist to extend his career-high point streak to 10 games, in which he has six goals and 13 points.
25. Buffalo Sabres

22. Seattle Kraken

Previous Ranking: 21
Overall Record: 21-19-10
The Kraken won two of three before running into a hot goalie in a pre-break loss to San Jose, and they'll need to reverse that luck on a four-game road trip that begins Saturday in Philadelphia and includes dates with New Jersey, the New York Islanders and Boston.
21. Calgary Flames

Previous Ranking: 24
Overall Record: 23-22-5
As debuts go, Andrei Kuzmenko's was pretty stellar.
The forward scored in his first game with the Flames, a 4-1 win at Boston, since being acquired from Vancouver in a trade that sent Elias Lindholm to the Canucks.
"It's a good feeling because we win," the 28-year-old said.
20. New York Islanders

Previous Ranking: 23
Overall Record: 21-17-12
The Islanders won at Toronto in their first game after the break to halt a skid that had yielded three straight losses and seven in eight games.
They will return Thursday night against Tampa Bay to begin a four-game homestand.
19. Nashville Predators

Previous Ranking: 18
Overall Record: 26-23-2
An extended break isn't the worst thing for the Predators, who had dropped three straight and gone 1-3-1 in their last five before the hiatus that will last until Saturday's visit by Arizona.
"In the new year, we haven't gotten the points that we've wanted," forward Filip Forsberg said.
18. St. Louis Blues

Previous Ranking: 17
Overall Record: 26-21-2
Only a 21-save shutout from Elvis Merzlikins could cool off the Blues, who had won five straight before dropping a 1-0 decision to Columbus in their final pre-break game.
St. Louis won't play again until opening a three-game road trip on Saturday in Buffalo.
17. New Jersey Devils

Previous Ranking: 19

14. Los Angeles Kings

Previous Ranking: 14
Overall Record: 23-15-10
It wasn't supposed to be this way for the Kings, who lit up the Western Conference before falling into an extended tailspin that cost Todd McLellan his job.

13. Detroit Red Wings

Previous Ranking: 13
Overall Record: 26-18-6

The Farmington Hills native had 18 goals and 43 points in 50 games through Tuesday.
12. Toronto Maple Leafs

Previous Ranking: 11
Overall Record: 25-15-8
The Maple Leafs were sixth in the Eastern Conference and 12th overall through Tuesday, but it wasn't because of outstanding play at Scotiabank Arena, where they were just 11-10-2 through 23 games before the visit of the Dallas Stars on Wednesday.
By contrast, Toronto has been elite on the road with a 14-5-6 mark.
11. Tampa Bay Lightning

Previous Ranking: 12

Quick, 38, had a .922 save percentage across his first five appearances since the start of January.
8. Vegas Golden Knights

Previous Ranking: 8
Overall Record: 30-15-6

6. (tie) Edmonton Oilers

Previous Ranking: 3
Overall Record: 29-16-1
It had to end sometime for the Oilers, whose bid to tie the longest win streak in NHL history fell a game short at 16.
Edmonton hadn't lost since December 19.
"You forget sometimes how much you hate losing, and it's a good reminder," captain Connor McDavid said.
5. Florida Panthers
