French Open 2024 Results: Instant Reactions to Winners and Losers from Thursday

Thursday's schedule was filled to the brim as a result of Wednesday's postponed matches.
On the men's side, top talents such as Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev raced off to straight-set wins.
The top half of the draw did experience a big upset as No. 18 Karen Khachanov fell to qualifier Jozef Kovalik in five sets after being up two sets.
On the women's side, No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka and No. 3 seed Elena Rybakina each won convincingly.
In perhaps the biggest upset of the day from the women's draw, Olga Danilovic, a French Open qualifier, defeated No. 10 seed Danielle Collins in her final French Open match.
Collins, who previously announced plans to retire following the 2024 season, had the fifth-best odds to win the French Open.

Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev Advance to Third Round

In the top half of the men's draw, both Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev dominated.
Djokovic struggled early but was able to break his opponent's serve and find his groove.
No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev also got off to a slow start in his second-round matchup, struggling with his forehand and needing a tiebreaker to win the first set.
Zverev was ultimately able to take advantage of opponent David Goffin's inconsistencies and considerably improve his forehand play.
Zverev will next face Tallon Griekspoor, while No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic will have his hands full with No. 30 seed Lorenzo Musetti, an opponent who has already defeated the Serbian on clay.
Aryna Sabalenka Excels, Top Half of Women's Draw Experiences Shakeup

In the bottom half of the draw, No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka breezed through her second round match.
Sabalenka will face Paula Badosa in a tough third-round matchup.
In the top half of the draw, Jelena Ostapenko and Danielle Collins each fell in three sets.
Both Ostapenko and Collins were considered strong contenders to dethrone Iga Swiatek's quest for a third straight French Open.
In their absence, No. 5 seed Marketa Vondrousova and No. 8 seed Ons Jabeur will look to take advantage of a weaker path to the quarterfinal round.
Casper Ruud, Holger Rune Hold on, Karen Khachanov Falls Late

Casper Ruud made sure that history would not repeat itself in his second-round matchup against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
After losing a heartbreaking five-set match three years ago here at Roland Garros to the Spaniard, Ruud was able to exact revenge in five sets.
No. 13 Holger Rune also avoided disaster by winning in five sets, despite holding a two-set lead.
Rune struggled to close the match out, giving his opponent three break-point opportunities late in the fifth set, but was able to regroup and win a fifth-set super tiebreaker.
While Ruud and Rune were able to escape unscathed, No. 18 seed Karen Khachanov was not as lucky.
Khachanov, who held a two-set lead against Slovakian qualifier Jozef Kovalik, lost in five sets.
