Giants' Win-Loss Predictions for 2024 NFL Season

Giants QB Daniel Jones

As the New York Giants approach their preseason finale and August 27 roster cuts, one thing is clear. The goodwill that head coach Brian Daboll and quarterback Daniel Jones earned during their 2022 playoff run is gone.

The Giants struggled mightily last season, and they haven't looked particularly good in exhibition play this year. Jones, of course, is coming off a torn ACL, but his two interceptions on Saturday serve as a reminder that, even when healthy, Jones can be an erratic quarterback.

If New York is going to move beyond 2024 with Jones as its QB of the future, it has to surpass the 6-11 record it produced last year. Jones will have to perform better than he has recently, naturally, but the Giants' ability to win with him will be the most important factor.

Can the Giants rebound and perhaps even make another surprise postseason run? Let's dive into what's ahead and make a few predictions.

Analysis and Expectations

Giants WR Malik Nabers

If the Giants are going to turn things around this season, they're going to need extensive help from newcomers like Brian Burns, Jermaine Eluemunor and rookie receiver Malik Nabers.

Nabers, specifically, has the potential to give the Giants something they've lacked since the prime days of Odell Beckham Jr.—a legitimate No. 1 receiver.

"Overall, it's easy to see how Nabers could make an instant impact in the NFL," Derrik Klassen of the Bleacher Report Scouting Department wrote. "His combination of speed, quickness and yards-after-the-catch skills will translate into explosive plays right away."

New York was one of the worst teams in football last season, and while it's easy to blame injuries, having a healthy roster only improves the 2024 outlook so much.

Yes, Jones missed time and star running back Saquon Barkley rarely appeared to be at 100 percent. However, Jones is still a massive question mark at quarterback, and Barkley bolted for the rival Philadelphia Eagles in free agency.

The Vegas oddsmakers aren't expecting a major improvement this season. New York's over/under for wins currently sits at 6.5, according to DraftKings Sportsbook, and the Giants aren't viewed as contenders in the NFC East.

New York has the longest odds to win the division at +2000 (bet $100 to win $200). That's telling. The Eagles and Dallas Cowboys were both playoff teams a year ago, but the Washington Commanders finished with the second-worst record in the NFL.

Of course, Washington used the second overall pick to snag LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, and that decision gives the Commanders a brighter outlook than the Giants have.

Predictions

Giants head coach Brian Daboll
Giants head coach Brian Daboll

Daboll was named Coach of the Year in 2022 because he got the Giants to significantly overachieve. He's going to have to do it again for New York to have any shot at the postseason in 2024.

The reality is that this roster still isn't great. Nabers can have a big early impact, the the Giants still have to get him the football. Players like Eluemunor and Jon Runyan may improve the offensive line, but it's a unit that surrendered an alarming 85 sacks in 2023.

The defense is in flux following a split with former coordinator Don Martindale, and newcomer Shane Bowen doesn't have the greatest resume. His Tennessee Titans defense ranked 18th overall last season, which was better than New York's defense, but still not elite.

Fans should probably only expect incremental improvement on each side of the ball this season, which may result in an extra win or two. However, until/unless Jones proves that he can consistently be an above-average starter, a return trip to the playoffs is unlikely.

It doesn't help that New York faces the league's sixth-hardest schedule (tied) based on 2023 winning percentage (.516). The Giants will need to get off to a fast start to find any momentum, and that could prove difficult.

Between Weeks 3 and 8, the Giants face a brutal stretch that could potentially put both Jones and Daboll on the hot seat by midseason.

Win-Loss Prediction: 6-11
