WWE NXT Results: Winners, Live Grades, Reaction, Highlights After No Mercy

Ethan Page retained his title when guest referee Trick Williams was forced to count the three at No Mercy.
Ethan Page retained his title when guest referee Trick Williams was forced to count the three at No Mercy.

NXT No Mercy was a big night for the gold brand, including a major debut and multiple great title matches.

The September 3 edition of the gold brand followed up on that show with some important matches and even bigger moments as it prepared for some big moves.

"All Ego" Ethan Page is still the NXT champion and will next defend his title on the brand's CW Network debut on October 1. Trick Williams hopes to be the challenger, but he needed to beat Pete Dunne this week to earn it.

Roxanne Perez survived the best work of Jaida Parker's career, but her next challenger has already arrived. Giulia finally arrived in NXT on Sunday. What would be the aftermath of this major moment?

Ridge Holland turned on Chase U, notably injuring Andre Chase, after they lost the NXT Tag Team Championships at No Mercy. Would the Englishman explain his heinous actions?

Following the big win for Nathan Frazer and Axiom, regaining the NXT Tag Team Championships, three teams were set to challenge them. Who would win between The Rascalz, Gallus and Hank Walker and Tank Ledger?

Oro Mensah also got his shot at Lexis King one-on-one after the two came to blows last week.

This was a night of reaction that would set the stage for NXT to get hot on the road to The CW.

Trick Williams and Pete Dunne Brawl/Tag Team No. 1 Contender Triple Threat

Trick Williams called out Pete Dunne, but "All Ego" Ethan Page arrived to mock him instead. The Bruiserweight arrived late to start a brawl.

The Rascalz faced a tough first challenge with Hank Walker and Tank Ledger rolling on Gallus. However, after Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson got involved, Zachary Wentz and Trey Miguel hit a meteora/Shooting Star Press combination to win.

The opening action felt a little unnecessary as the main event already had heat, but it certainly set a tone for a chaotic night to come.

The opening contest was good, especially thanks to the energy of The Rascalz and Hank and Tank. Hank and Tank have grown into one of NXT's most interesting tag teams. It is important that they not lose steam after this though.

The Rascalz got a much deserved win to set up an exciting NXT Tag Team Championships clash next week. It should be high octane and hopefully eclipse the previous Nathan Frazer and Axiom vs. MSK battle.

It is likely Wes Lee will ruin The Rascalz night, but this story is a strong foundation for the NXT/TNA partnership that is shining through right now.

Result

The Rascalz def. Hank and Tank and Gallus by pinfall to become the new No. 1 contenders to the NXT Tag Team Championships.

Grade

B

Notable Moments

  • A fight almost broke out backstage before the match could start between Gallus and Hank and Tank.
  • Hank and Tank planted The Rascalz with side-by-side fallaway slams then took out Gallus with a double avalanche in the center of the ring.
  • Je'Von Evans attacked Joe Coffey outside to stop his interference.
  • Right after the match, backstage, The Rascalz found Frazer and Axiom and warned them that the tag titles would change hands next week.
  • The brawl between Trick and Dunne continued backstage.

Oro Mensah (w/ Meta-Four) vs. Lexis King

Lexis King struggled to deal with the speed and striking prowess of Oro Mensah. However, after some inflammatory comments about Mensah's father, On Sight saw red. The distraction allowed King to stack him up for three with his feet on the ropes.

One of NXT's biggest mistakes in King's feuds has been rushing the matches. While this still could have used more time, it at least got enough time to tell a complete story.

The action was solid. It was not a match to seek out, but King and Mensah have some chemistry to explore. As with most King feuds, the first result does not define the rivalry.

This will likely go to three matches. When it gets to that stage, Mensah should win as he has championship upside that he has shown in recent months.

Result

King def. Mensah by pinfall.

Grade

B-

Notable Moments

  • King knocked Mensah off the top rope all the way to the floor to finally get an advantage in this match.
  • After the three, Mensah ran after King, who bailed to the backstage area.

Tatum Paxley vs. Rosemary (w/ Wendy Choo)

Rosemary pushed Tatum Paxley to get serious. Paxley responded with a fiery display that ended with the Psycho Trap for an emphatic win.

Afterward, Paxley fought off Choo's sneak attack, but Rosemary Speared her. Lyra Valkyria made a shocking return to save Paxley.

There is something here with the pairing of Rosemary and Paxley, but the two needed more time to explore it. This was as good as it could have been, even if it built to a rushed finish.

It would be nice to see Rosemary pick up a little momentum in NXT if she is around for a long period. Paxley though needed this win to get back on track.

Pairing back up Paxley and Valkyria is the right move. The two never got a chance to run well together and have main-roster tag team upside.

Result

Paxley def. Rosemary by pinfall.

Grade

C+

Notable Moments

  • Rosemary broke the doll that Paxley left for Choo during her entrance.
  • Paxley and Valkyria hugged it out after clearing the ring.
  • In the locker room, Valkyria reconciled with Paxley and told her they were better fighting together than against one another.

Trick Williams vs. Pete Dunne

Since the brawling would not stop between Pete Dunne and Trick Williams, Ava told them to head to the ring to finish this, even if it meant the main event starting early.

Trick Williams survived Pete Dunne's best shots until they rolled to the outside. They kept brawling until they both fell off the barricade through the announce table. Neither could make the 10 count.

A non-finish in a feud this intense is a little disappointing but promises that a more definitive result will happen with a stipulation down the line.

This rivalry has most certainly not outstayed its welcome. It is making Trick a more engaging performer while elevating his already substantial standing in NXT. When he finally wins, he will feel earned.

The match was good, but the best is going to come with the main event spotlight and a stipulation that will not get in the way of the brawl.

Result

Trick vs. Dunne is ruled a double count-out.

Grade

A-

Notable Moments

  • "All Ego" Ethan Page mocked Ava backstage as she struggled to keep order.
  • Page was shown watching this backstage multiple times, smiling.
  • Dunne stomped the head of Trick hard into the steel steps, knocking out Trick cold for a couple seconds (according to Booker T).
  • The brawl continued after the bell as officials tried to intervene. The crowd wanted the fight to continue.
  • Ava announced that Trick would face Dunne again next week, Last Man Standing.

Je'Von Evans vs. Joe Coffey (w/ Gallus)

Je'Von Evans brought the speed for round one, catching Joe Coffey with a tope suicida into the announce table and handspring side kick.

When Mark Coffey and Wolfgang tried to uneven the odds again, Cedric Alexander helped clear out the ringside area. This set up a corner springboard corkscrew moonsault for the three.

This was nowhere near the first match from Joe and Evans as neither got the time to shine in the same way. However, it was a welcome change of pace for The Young OG, who got back on the winning track.

With Alexander backing him up, perhaps this is a chance to finally get Evans back in the title picture. Even if the NXT champion is busy, Evans and Alexander is an interesting team that could rise up the tag title ranks together.

Result

Evans def. Joe by pinfall.

Grade

C+

Notable Moments

  • Backstage, No Quarter Catch Crew told Gallus to quiet down and not to test their luck in a rematch with The Young OG.
  • Later, The Young OG and Wren Sinclair agreed to a Heritage Cup match next week. Charlie Dempsey was upset.
  • Ridge Holland explained that Chase U was a group of losers that did what they always do when the lights are brightest. He promised to destroy Chase U.
  • Shawn Spears thanked Brooks Jensen for standing up for him. Dion Lennox told Jensen that Spears was gaslighting him.

Oba Femi vs. Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo

Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo fought hard against Oba Femi but was overwhelmingly outmatched. A pop-up powerbomb sealed it.

The Ruler squashed The Underboss, and it was good fun to watch. The two clicked well and went about as long as made sense for the mismatch in credibility between them.

The match itself was less the story than the way The Don reacted. After all his big promises, he is looking at a mountain he cannot climb, even if The Family is encouraging him to try.

Femi vs. D'Angelo was great at No Mercy and would be good again, even with commercial interruptions. However, The Don needs to find a new angle to sell why he deserves a second shot.

Result

Femi def. Stacks by pinfall.

Grade

B

Notable Moments

  • Femi found The Family in the locker room and insulted Adriana Rizzo. D'Angelo told Stacks to deal with this.
  • In a cool transition, on his way to the ring, the champion stomped on a camera lends to send the show to commercial.
  • Stacks missed a dive on Femi and tweaked his ankle. Femi blasted him into the corner then threw him clear across the ring.
  • D'Angelo looked mentally checked out after the finish, clearly uncertain if it was worth challenging Femi again.

Jaida Parker vs. Jazmyn Nyx (w/ Fatal Influence)

Jaida Parker fought through injuries lingering from No Mercy to leave Jazmyn Nyx on the defense. A Hipnotic sealed the victory.

After the finish, Fatal Influence laid out Parker, who could not handle the numbers on her own.

No one gained more credibility at No Mercy than Parker, who had a career-defining match with Roxanne Perez and stole the show.

It made sense to give her an opponent that she could overcome while setting up future challengers as well. Fatal Influence are an interesting threat to Parker, who has not made friends in the locker room lately.

Overall, it was a successful segment despite a match that was only okay at best. Parker sold well, but Nyx is still too basic with her key offense to lead a match.

Result

Parker def. Nyx by pinfall.

Grade

C+

Notable Moments

  • Fatal Influence mocked Parker backstage, which pushed her to challenge Nyx for a match.
  • Parker walked into this match with taped-up ribs.
  • Parker connected with a confident Tear Drop, but she was too slow to capitalize and almost got rolled up.
  • Ashante "Thee" Adonis tried to comfort Brinley Reece, but she was not interested. Eddy Thorpe told him to back off.
  • Fatal Influence headed backstage to immediately warn Kelani Jordan that her days as champion were numbered.

Giulia Lays Out the Challenge to Roxanne Perez

Roxanne Perez promised to smash Asuka and Iyo Sky's NXT Women's Championship records. The lights went out, but it was Chelsea Green that arrived to mock The Prodigy.

The lights went out again. Guiulia arrived and confidently walked out. She laid out Green with a forearm and knee strike. She then claimed the next title match with Perez on the NXT debut on The CW.

The Prodigy has not always been the best promo, but she was talking confident tonight, clearly energized to finally face off against Giulia.

The presentation of this segment was on point. Green's surprise appearance sets up a fun warm-up match for Giulia before the October debut on The CW.

Perez vs, Giulia is a money match that will likely guarantee a sold-out show in Chicago. It is likely the arriving star will win, giving Perez a perfect opening to head to the main roster with a worth champion at the head of NXT.

Grade

A

Notable Moments

  • NXT showed the women's locker room watching this segment closely.
  • The crowd was already starting a sing-song Giulia chant while The Prodigy would not mention her name.
  • Even after mocking the crowd, the fans cheered for Green.
  • The presentation of Giulia was much stronger for her second entrance, avoiding the overwhelming smoke from No Mercy.

Overall Show

NXT did not do much to inspire excitement with the in-ring action but certainly over-delivered on match build-up.

This was a night of quick easy clashes that set up a stacked line-up for next week while starting to set the expectation for NXT on The CW.

Trick Williams vs. Pete Dunne was good but clearly held back for the great bout to come next week.

The Rascalz showed out in a strong triple threat tag team match with Hank Walker and Tank Ledger and Gallus. Again, it set the stage for something stronger on the following week, battling Nathan Frazer and Axiom.

The rest of the show was forgettable action but set the stage for contests including Charlie Dempsey vs. Je'Von Evans and Tatum Paxley and Lyra Valkyria vs. Wendy Choo and Rosemary.

It is hard to argue that the night was not successful, even if the better show is a week away. This was a night of fallout that immediately pushed forward.
