King Mo vs. Rampage and the Best Journeyman Fights to Be Made Right Now

Not every fight on a MMA card features an important matchup. There are some fights that are made for the pure enjoyment of watching two entertaining guys face off inside a cage.

However, these bouts are often the most exciting bouts on the card. With a high-profile fight where a fighter may play it safe if up on the scorecards, a bout between two journeymen features two guys with nothing to lose.

Like an animal backed into a corner, these fighters don't hold anything back and scrap for their livelihood.

Not every fighter will go on to win titles or have a Hall of Fame career. The people on this list certainly have or had the talent to win a title; some even had achieved great things in their career. At this point in their careers, most, if not all of these fighters are considered journeymen.

Matching them up may not mean a whole lot as far as rankings go, but they sure would be fun to watch.

The first meeting between Cheick Kongo and Pat Barry gave us one of the best finishing sequences in MMA history.

On the brink of defeat multiple times, Kongo recovered and floored an overaggressive Barry.

Despite winning three out of his last four fights, Kongo shouldn't be considered "in the mix."

Until Barry proves that he's actually improved his grappling, he shouldn't be considering a title run any time soon either.

The rematch likely wouldn't provide as exciting of a finish, but it'd be nice to see two exciting strikers go at it.

As one of the more likely of matches to happen on this list, another go-round of Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin could provide entertainment.

The first two bouts were razor close and saw Ortiz show glimpses of "the old Tito."

Neither man will be competing for a title anytime soon, so it doesn't hold either man back in their careers. Plus, do we really want either of these two legends to have a young fighter attempt to make a name for themselves by beating them?

Two former teammates squaring off in the Octagon?

Sounds like a drama story in the making.

Clay Guida and Melvin Guillard are both coming from high-profile losses and would provide an exciting fight. The bout makes sense rankings-wise as well.

Between Guida's constant movement and Guillard's quickness, you may need to stock up on Red Bulls to keep up with the action.

In a battle of weight-cuts, the winner between a Paul Daley-Anthony Johnson showdown may be the one who can get their issues under control.

If both men took the fight seriously, it would be fireworks.

Neither Johnson or Daley have any problems with standing and banging which would probably lead to one of the nastiest knockouts in MMA history.

Of course, Johnson may be inclined to use his wrestling like he did against Dan Hardy.

Either way, an exciting finish would be the result of a showdown between these two scrappy welterweights.

A grudge match that seemingly grew overnight, Brandon Vera and Thiago Silva really don't like each other.

Besides making Vera's nose resemble a "<," Silva decided to add a little insult to injury and practiced his "Rock Band" game by playing the drums on Vera's back.

Vera has already stated he'd like to face Silva in the Brazilian's return fight.

Even though the first match was incredibly one-sided, it'd still be interesting to see if the PEDs helped Silva that much.

Also, who wouldn't mind seeing the over-confident Vera be humbled again?

Both Wanderlei Silva and Robbie Lawler have been in the MMA game for a long time.

While Silva made his name in Pride, Lawler was becoming one of Dana White's favorite fighters to display due to his explosive hands.

Lawler isn't a down-and-out fighter by any means, but if his past record is any indication of how his career is going, it's clear that he won't be making a title run anytime soon.

Silva is entering the twilight of his career and while I'd rather not see an MMA icon faceplant into the canvas, a bout with Lawler would be exciting nonetheless.

Jeremy Horn has been fighting for so long I honestly believe he was putting a triceratops in an arm bar before he could walk.

Known for fighting just about anyone at any time, Horn has long been a fan favorite by putting on exciting bouts and being able to pull off submissions with ease at times.

Jorge Santiago hasn't had the best of luck inside the UFC but always seems to resurrect his career once he leaves the Octagon behind.

A match with Horn would give him a win over a big name (even if Horn is well past his prime) and if he were to submit him again he would be the first man to do so since 2008, when Dean Lister and Nate Marquardt caught Horn in a guillotine.

Although Fedor Emelianenko clearly won his fight against Andrei Arlovski in 2009, it'd be interesting to see these two rematch.

Arlovski had Emelianenko on the ropes and backing up before getting overzealous with a flying knee. Arlovski has to know his chin isn't what it used to be and might employ a more methodical approach in a second go-round.

If the bout were to go to the ground, it'd be fun to see two Sambo-based grapplers going at it.

I'm sure Arlovski would like to erase this image from his fighting career and replace it with Emelianenko lying flat on the canvas.

A match between Renato Sobral and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira would provide excitement regardless the direction the fight takes.

Both men have no qualms about trading shots on the feet. It would be Sobral's power against "Little Nog's" technique in a standup war.

On the ground, fans would be privileged to an interesting grappling match. Both men are Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belts and Sobral in particular isn't hesitant about going for any submission opportunity he sees.

If Jason Brilz can give Nogueira a run for his money on the ground, surely Sobral could pull something off.

Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson have been going back and forth for quite some time now.

Neither man are shy about saying how they feel and have often times been especially critical of the other's career. Everything from pierced nipples to steroids has been woven into this rivalry.

"Rampage" may be considered a top contender in the 205-pound division but at this point in his career the UFC should really just focus on giving him exciting fights. A bout with "King Mo" would be entertaining and an easy sell.
