Weekend Rundown: Reviewing This Weekend in MMA

With the UFC still on the shelf until early next month, the rest of the mixed martial arts world has not taken a break in its absence. Numerous fight promotions put on great cards to keep MMA fans entertained this weekend.

From Bellator to Superior Cage Combat, from the United States to the United Arab Emirates, all sorts of MMA action went down this weekend.

Let's take a look at the notable results.

Bellator LXI

Last night, Bellator LXI showcased the quarterfinals of their middleweight tournament. It was interesting to say the least.

In the tournament, we saw a brutal knockout, a tournament favorite fall, a one-sided beating and one of the craziest fights in recent memory.

In the main event, nut jobs Maiquel Falcao and Norman Paraisy fought hard, even after the bell. In all three rounds, multiple shots were landed after the bell in an intense affair.

Brian Rogers defeated Vitor Vianna via knockout (flying knee) at 4:14 of round 1.

Josh Quayhagen defeated Brent Taylor via unanimous decision at 5:00 of round 3.

Derrick Krantz defeated Eric Scallan via submission (D'arce choke) at 3:01 of round 1.

Jason Sampson defeated Jeremy Myers via submission (rear naked choke) at 2:25 of round 3.

Trey Houston defeated Jeremiah Riggs via submission (armbar) at 3:30 of round 1.

Score Fighting Series 4

North of the border, Score Fighting Series 4 took place in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The card played host to a number of solid fights, including the main event between John Alessio and Ryan Healy.

Also in action was UFC veteran Forrest Petz, who was looking to extend his winning streak and earn an invite back to the UFC.

Over in St. Petersburg, Russia, M-1 Challenge 31 took place, headlined by longtime veterans Jeff Monson and Alexey Oleinik.

The card also saw the return of Aleksander Emelianenko, brother of world-renowned Fedor Emelianenko. The card had some solid bouts, helping attract more viewers to the fledgling promotion.

Cage Warriors Fighting Championship: Fight Night 4

In Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Cage Warriors Fight Night 4 took place, with the vacant heavyweight championship on the line. In that bout, Bellator veteran Mike Hayes took on German star Andreas Kraniotakes in a war.

The card also featured UFC veteran Lucio Linhares taking on Kyle Baker in a welterweight showdown.
