The 5 Best Video Highlights of Oregon Ducks RB LaMichael James
The Oregon Ducks proved they were a force to be reckoned with the past two seasons in both the Pac-10 and the BCS. Just ask their opponents.
While they were not successful in their quest at a national title two seasons ago, thanks in part to some guy named Cam Newton, the offense of the Ducks still proved to be one of the better powerhouses in college sports, thanks to LaMichael James and the Oregon running attack.
James, a 5'8", 194-pound stick of dynamite, kept on going and going like the Energizer Bunny. And through his hard work, he may have parlayed his performance on the field into being as high as a second-round draft choice.
According to CBSSports.com, "James also became Oregon's only two-time consensus All American football player as he led the nation with 150.42 yards rushing a game and ended his career with a school record 5,929 all-purpose yards."
His elusiveness and his ability to change direction or hit full speed from the snap of the ball will make him a tempting pick for teams needing someone to charge their rushing offense.
James could be a choice for someone like Denver, Detroit, New England, Dallas or even the New York Jets.
And these highlights prove that he could be another one of those great small backs in the mold of Maurice Jones-Drew, Darren Sproles or Ray Rice.
LSU 2011
James and the Ducks all had a tough time against LSU. But in the game, we saw James used more than just a runner in the I-formation.
James was used plenty in draw plays from the shotgun and he was also an effective receiver out of the backfield.
Draft Analysis for 2010
We were able to see James burst through the offensive line on several plays during the 2010 season. Yes, there were times when the 5'8" runner was bottled up, but he was also able to make the first tackle miss before he want down.
The sudden burst in his running game makes him an effective back on third down and short-yardage plays.
And He Can Catch, Too
Not only does this video show his explosiveness off the line, but it also shows James' ability to break away from the defense with his speed and beat the secondary to make the sideline catch.
That ability will make him hard to defense when he is out in the slot in a three- or four-wide receiver set.
The Best in Big Games
Great runners play their best against the best competition. We see in this video James breaking tackles against SEC and Pac-10 opponents.
If he can spread a defense thin like this consistently, he could be a major star in the NFL. I see him as Kevin Faulk with more skills.
Running to Daylight
Full speed ahead. Even in 2009, three years ago, James was making defenders miss and he was running to daylight and the open field.
And the ability to make the first defender miss and then break tackles makes him an all-world talent.
If he were 5'10'' and 200 pounds, he would be a top-10 pick in this year's draft.
