Mayweather vs. Cotto: Post-Fight Interviews, Reaction and Press Conference

After what was a very exciting bout between the still-undefeated, Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto, Money May had the spotlight squarely on himself, as Cotto reportedly went to the hospital after the bout, and missed all the post-fight interviews.

Although it would have been nice to get Cotto's feelings on the great bout tonight, Money May had no trouble creating enough content on his own.

Here are the best of the post-fight interviews, reactions and post-fight press conferences as made possible by the newly crowned WBA junior middleweight champion.

Post-Fight Interviews

The post-fight interview consisted of the one-man show they call Floyd Mayweather, as Miguel Cotto went to his locker room shortly after the decision in Money May's favor was announced.

HBO corespondent, Larry Merchant, who had a memorable encounter with Mayweather last September after the Mayweather-Victor Ortiz bout, said that he and the undefeated champ made up before the bout tonight.

After Merchant asked Mayweather who was on his short list of fighters after the Cotto bout, Money May went off on yet another Pacquiao rant.

This fight right here, I was looking to fight Manny Pacquiao. The fight didn't happen because, I don't think the fight would happen because of Bob Arum. Bob Arum is in the way, he's stopping the Pacquiao fight. Let's give the fans what they want to see, they wanna see Mayweather and Pacquiao.

After Mayweather yet again publicly called Pacman out, he was asked if he would then be willing to budge on his grounds that he would make more money than Pacquiao. Money May totally dodged the question and turned it into another drug test call-out, even though Pacman's camp said it was no longer an issue.

Like I said before, I've been trying to make the Pacquiao fight, I mean Miguel Cotto didn't have no problem with taking a random blood and urine test. So why should he (Pacquiao)? If you're the best, take the test and let's give the fans what they want to see, Mayweather-Pacquiao.

Reaction

I gathered my reactions off of Twitter, as that's the best way in this day in age to get the most reaction instantly.

Here is a sample of what writers, celebrities and even a mock Bill Walton account were saying about the bout:

Dan Rafael, ESPN boxing writer:

Floyd W12 Cotto, 118-110, 117-111, 117-111. He earned this one big time and great showing from Cotto #boxing #RingKings @SportsCenter @espn

— Dan Rafael (@danrafaelespn) May 6, 2012

ESPN:

Floyd Mayweather is so money, and he knows it. #MayweatherBeatsCotto

— ESPN (@espn) May 6, 2012

Taylor Bern, Las Vegas Sun sports writer:

Mayweather just keeps flip-flopping on Pacquaio. Is it Arum's fault, or do you think Manny cheats? Pick one.

— Taylor Bern (@TaylorBern) May 6, 2012

Lou DiBella, fight promoter

Notice Money didn't mention Maravilla...that's a dream match.

— Lou DiBella (@loudibella) May 6, 2012

And just for the humorous side of things, Not Bill Walton's mock Twitter account:

Congrats to Mayweather! He was focused not to let this fight slip from his grasp not unlike a bar of soap might when he goes to jail.

Press Conference

Here are some quotes from the post-fight press conference via Golden Boy Promotions and Yahoo! boxing writer, Kevin Iole's Twitter feeds—Miguel Cotto did not attend the press conference, as he went to the hospital instead.

Oscar De La Hoya gave praise to Floyd Mayweather's fighting style of late:

We are going to see a Floyd Mayweather who wants to trade with the fighters. His style today is a fan-friendly style.

Roger Mayweather, Floyd's uncle and trainer, commented on his fighters gritty performance:

He did what he had to do to win. That's what great fighters do.

Lastly, here is a collection of Mayweather quotes from the post-fight presser via Golden Boy Promotions:

I knew he wasn't going to lay down. But I had a great camp that pushed me to push myself to the limit.

We saw Miguel Cotto was not going to give up. A dog gets a bone every now and then. I take my hat off to Cotto and his team.

We gave you guys what you wanted to see. It's a recession, you spend money to see me. I said f--k it. We'll give it to you.

I made over $32 million which was my guarantee, so hopefully once numbers come in we'll do $60-70 million

Sometimes I thought I was breaking him down, but then he came back strong. I was like DAMN, he's in shape.

June 1st, I'm going to go away. I can't change that. That's just an obstacle. Man can't judge me, only God can judge me.

The truth is: Bob Arum is not going to let the fight happen. It's not on me. I called Pacquiao and offered him $40 million

This fight I thought: I'm not going to move, I could've made it easy. I was going for the KO. He was in tremendous shape.

I don't have to fight if I don't want to. But I have to take my hat off to my team.
