Ranking Edin Dzeko's Top 6 Bosnia-Herzegovina Moments

Bosnia-Herzegovina opened the World Cup with an expected loss to Argentina, but left a positive impression with their performance.

It is obvious the team's attacking power relies on the abilities of one man—Edin Dzeko. His contribution against Argentina was modest, mostly because he was cut off for most of the game, battling with two or three defenders on his back.

With 35 goals, the Manchester City star is the best scorer in the history of the country. His goals, including 10 in the qualifiers, paved the way to Bosnia's first major tournament.

While waiting for Dzeko's first goal at the World Cup, Bleacher Report reminds you of his top six Bosnia-Herzegovina moments. 

Bosnia-Herzegovina failed to qualify for Euro 2012 on that night in Paris after a controversial Samir Nasri penalty denied them a win.

However, Dzeko's brilliant goal from that game remains one of the most beautiful in the country's history.

It was a strike which looked destined to take Bosnia to their first major tournament, but Scottish referee Craig Thomson awarded the French a penalty to break their hearts. 

At the time, Dzeko was Zeljeznicar's rejected son, who had started to shine in the Czech Republic and attracted the interest of Wolfsburg and the Bosnia under-21 team.

His call-up was still questioned by some, but regular players were boycotting the team because of the organisation of the Bosnian governing body. Dzeko suddenly got the chance to make his debut.

Bosnia-Herzegovina had won only twice in their previous 10 matches and expectations were low, but Dzeko's equaliser in the 45th minute changed the game and helped the team to a surprising 3-2 win over Turkey. 

Bosnia knew that if they beat Belgium at home, their biggest contender for second place in their 2010 World Cup qualifying group would be out of the race.

Dzeko was utterly rampant, giving his now-Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany a torrid time throughout the match.

Dzeko scored both goals in a 2-1 win. Bosnia later secured their first appearance in the World Cup play-offs, where they eventually lost to Portugal. 

Bosnia were placed in a relatively easy group in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, with Greece and Slovakia being the toughest opposition.

However, it was obvious that the key matches would be against the 2004 European champions.

After a 0-0 draw in Piraeus, Bosnia-Herzegovina hosted Greece in Zenica, and their 3-1 victory cleared the way to glory.

Dzeko was once again the man of the match, easily dealing with the usually resilient Greek defence, scoring the first and third goals in a 3-1 victory. 

Dzeko has scored 35 goals for the national team, but one of his finest moments was an assist.

Bosnia-Herzegovina played the decisive match of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers in Kaunas, Lithuania, where they needed a win to seal their trip to Brazil.

The Dragons struggled for more than an hour, but when Dzeko received a ball on the left side and dribbled past a defender, the deadlock was about to be broken.

The Manchester City man's subsequent threaded pass to Vedad Ibisevic allowed the forward to tap home from close range to secure the country's biggest sporting achievement since Bosnian independence.

The 2010 World Cup qualifier against Belgium in Genk helped to shape the future of the Bosnia-Herzegovina national team.

Bosnian football's hierarchy was in chaos at the time, but Miroslav Blazevic's appointment helped to calm the storm.

In Genk, the Bosnians surprised their hosts. Dzeko's contribution was immense.

Bosnia won 4-2, with Dzeko scoring a superb first goal—a perfect right-foot drive from the corner of the penalty area.

A television commentator nicknamed his effort "the diamond," and it is still the way Dzeko is referred to in Bosnia.

After goals against Turkey, Estonia and Slovenia, this strike promoted Dzeko to the biggest star of modern Bosnian football.
