4 Memorable Moments for Manchester United and Belgium Man Marouane Fellaini

Marouane Fellaini was eligible to play for either Belgium or Morocco, but he picked the country of his birth from youth level.

He represented Belgium at U18, U19 and U21 level, before starting his career in the senior team when he was still a teenager.

Fellaini has played over 50 games for his country, which puts him in the top 40 for players to appear for Belgium.

However, with the national side failing to qualify for a major tournament since the 2002 World Cup, Fellaini's chances to shine on the world stage have been few and far between.

Still, he already has several moments he will remember fondly when looking back on his international career. What are they? 

Fellaini made his debut for Belgium when he was 19 years old.

He played the full 90 minutes in the team's defeat against the Czech Republic in what was a friendly encounter. 

Fellaini scored his first goal for Belgium in just his third appearance for the senior team, in a Euro 2008 qualifying game against Portugal.

Nani, who would go on to be his team-mate at Manchester United, scored the opening goal just before half-time.

Early in the second half, a cross came in to Fellaini, and he managed to head the ball into the far corner to draw his country level.

Belgium went on to lose the game 2-1.

Fellaini represented the U23 team at the 2008 Olympics when he was 20 years old.

Vincent Kompany, Thomas Vermaelen and Jan Vertonghen were amongst the players to join him, with Fellaini the second-youngest there.

Belgium finished second in their group behind Brazil and went on to play Italy in the round of 16. Former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi scored two goals in that game, but Belgium still won 3-2.

They lost their next game against Nigeria and were beaten by Brazil in the match for the bronze medal. 

Belgium's first game of the 2014 World Cup was against Algeria. They conceded early on and were really struggling to get back into the game.

Fellaini was subbed on with 25 minutes remaining and changed the game. Within five minutes, they had equalised, and they took the lead 10 minutes after that.

According to FourFourTwo Statzone, despite playing for less than 30 minutes, no player had more shots than him over the 90 minutes.

Only three players won more tackles or won more aerial duals, too.

Fellaini's goal was the first for Belgium in a tournament since 2002, when current manager Marc Wilmots scored for them in the World Cup.
