5 Youngsters Who Could Become Netherlands Stars Under New Boss Guus Hiddink

A new season has begun, and the World Cup in Brazil, where Louis van Gaal's Netherlands finished third, is well and truly behind us.

While Van Gaal is now working on a new challenge, trying to spark Manchester United back to life, the Dutch have appointed former Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink as their new boss.

Parts of Hiddink's job will be relatively straightforward: Players like Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben have at least one more tournament in them, and the Dutch manager would be crazy not to build his team around these star players. 

But in other positions, Oranje is in need of some new blood, and Hiddink will have to look at a few young players to come in and improve his team. 

Here, we take a look at five youngsters who could become Netherlands stars under Hiddink's reign.

During the 2012-13 season, Vitesse midfielder Marco van Ginkel seemed like one of the best young prospects in the Dutch Eredivisie.

In the summer of 2013, Van Ginkel was consequently snapped up by Chelsea, who have a close relationship with Vitesse. 

But then, disaster struck. Van Ginkel suffered a serious injury in September and was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Almost a year later, Van Ginkel will have to start offer, whether it be at Chelsea or at another club. But the fact remains the midfielder is hugely talented. 

Should he be able to find his old form back, Van Ginkel will surely become a major part of the Netherlands' future midfield setup.

Every now and then, an amazing player emerges from Ajax's famous youth academy. It may well turn out that Davy Klaassen, dubbed "the new Bergkamp" by some, is such a player.

As a youth player, Klaassen has played as a striker, but he is most comfortable as a central attacking midfielder. 

At Ajax, Klaassen functions as a midfield general. He played a major role in the Amsterdam-based club's victory over Barcelona in the Champions League last season. 

It's still early, but looking at their potential, a midfield duo consisting of Van Ginkel and Klaassen could be the stuff of dreams for Oranje.

Since the breakthrough of Arjen Robben about 10 years ago, the Netherlands have been short on quick, technically gifted wingers. 

Now, they have Quincy Promes, a 22-year-old attacker who can play as a traditional winger on the right or as an inside forward, cutting in from the left. 

During the Netherlands' preparatory campaign ahead of the World Cup, Promes managed to impress Van Gaal, but he was left out of the final squad at the last moment because of his relative inexperience.

Since then, Promes has moved from Dutch side FC Twente to Russian club Spartak Moscow, but there's no doubt Hiddink will keep an eye on his development. 

In recent years, Ajax have lost important central defenders Jan Vertonghen to Tottenham Hotspur and Toby Alderweireld to Atletico Madrid. Luckily for them, there's academy graduate Joel Veltman.

Like Vertonghen, Veltman is a defender who knows how to pass the ball. He also likes to surge forward and join the attack from time to time. 

Although he was part of Van Gaal's Netherlands squad during the World Cup, he didn't get much playing time. In the future, however, Veltman could well become a constitutive member of Hiddink's defence. 

At some point in time, Hiddink will probably have to think about possible replacements for attacking midfielder Wesley Sneijder, who is now 30 years old. 

Without a doubt, Tonny Vilhena will be one of the first players Hiddink will look at. Intelligent, creative and technically gifted, the midfielder could be the ideal No. 10.

As things stand, Vilhena will form the base of Feyenoord's midfield with team-mate Jordy Clasie this season, and it looks like both of these players will have a bright future ahead of them.

Expect Vilhena to break through at Euro 2016. If all goes well, he might be tempted to move to a bigger club after that tournament.
