Philadelphia Flyers Players with the Most to Prove During the 2014-15 Preseason

The Philadelphia Flyers' preseason is in full swing, and camp seems to have brought out a lot of competition, particularly among younger players and forwards.
There are a few spots open for the taking on the final roster, while others will be fighting to be the primary call-ups from the Phantoms.
Here are four guys with the most to prove during this 2014-15 preseason.
Michael Raffl

While many would consider Raffl to be a "sure thing" in Philadelphia after a solid (but uninspiring) rookie season, I don't think it's that simple.
It's just unclear as to where exactly he fits in the lineup right now. Is he a top-six talent? A fourth-line grinder? Or just a depth player? There is certainly an argument that Raffl deserves a shot on the second line, but some could easily point out his lack of point production as a reason to keep him on the third or fourth line.
Others still may say that a combination of Scott Laughton, Jason Akeson, Zac Rinaldo and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare deserve to be on the roster over Raffl.
While I believe that he will make the team, his future is certainly still very much up in the air, and this preseason is crucial for him.
Scott Laughton

Of course he's going to be on here. Laughton is still seeking that elusive permanent spot in the Flyers' forward rotation, which he hasn't been able to nail down since being Philadelphia's first-round selection in 2012.
There's a lot to like about Laughton's game. He's strong on the puck, skates well, works hard in all three zones and has shown some offensive skill as well.
But Laughton has reportedly (via BroadStreetHockey) really been turning it up lately in the preseason, scoring a goal against the New Jersey Devils and putting himself on a path toward an NHL spot.
It'd be disappointing if Laughton goes back to the AHL three years after being drafted, so he's got a lot of pressure to deal with over the next week or so.
Michael Del Zotto

Michael Del Zotto is a former top prospect who somehow found his play slip last season and ended up being an unwanted commodity throughout most of the summer.
The Flyers brought him in on a one-year contract, where he'll have to prove himself not just this preseason but throughout the entire season.
The 24-year-old worked out like crazy to get in shape for this season, according to ESPN.com's Scott Burnside, and everyone knows that he's got a lot of talent.
But if his offensive production and confidence aren't there, look for him to get cut or moved early on and replaced with the next guy on our list.
Shayne Gostisbehere

Already one of my favorite players on the Flyers, Gostisbehere's not at quite as crucial of a time period in his career as the previous three guys on the list.
But he is already 21 years old, and he completed three seasons of college hockey at Union before playing in a couple AHL games at the end of last season.
He's mature and plays a smart and fast game that seems to be exactly what the Flyers need from a defenseman. But it seems like general manager Ron Hextall is conservative with his prospects and hasn't made any big assurances about Gostisbehere (or Laughton) staying in the NHL.
It would be fine if he started with the Phantoms and got called up when an injury hits the big club, but he still needs to prove that he's putting up a major fight to make the Flyers right now.
