NHL Playoff Standings 2025: Latest Odds on Wild Card Races on East, West Brackets

Nothing is settled on the wild-card front in either the NHL's Eastern Conference or Western Conference with a few weeks of regular-season play left.

The Minnesota Wild are the safest team in a wild-card spot with a six-point buffer to the Calgary Flames in the West.

Minnesota carries the second-shortest odds to make the playoffs among all the wild-card contenders in the NHL.

No one wants to take full control of the East wild-card race. The Ottawa Senators have a four-point edge on the Montreal Canadiens, but Ottawa stumbled on Tuesday night against the last-place Buffalo Sabres.

The New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Columbus Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings are all within three points of Montreal. No matter who gets in from the East we are guaranteed a dramatic race to the finish.

Eastern Conference

Ottawa Senators v Buffalo Sabres

Atlantic Division

  1. Toronto - 89
  2. Florida - 89
  3. Tampa Bay - 87

Metropolitan Division

  1. Washington - 103
  2. Carolina - 90
  3. New Jersey - 81

Wild-Card Race

  1. Ottawa - 79
  2. Montreal - 75
  3. New York Islanders - 74
  4. New York Rangers - 74
  5. Columbus - 73
  6. Detroit - 72

Ottawa currently has -3000 (bet $3,000 to win $100) odds to make the playoffs at DraftKings Sportsbook.

The Senators have not looked like a playoff team of late. They lost three of four games and failed to earn a single point against last-place Buffalo on Tuesday.

Ottawa's wild-card advantage could go away by the end of the week since it visits Detroit on Thursday and hosts Columbus on Saturday.

The Senators and Blue Jackets play three times in the next two weeks. Ottawa also hosts the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers in that stretch.

All of the teams chasing Ottawa have much longer odds to make the playoffs.

Montreal sits at 180 (bet $100 to win $180), the Islanders are 190, the Rangers are 330, Columbus is 425 and Detroit is 1200.

Montreal has the luxury of playing the Philadelphia Flyers twice in the next six games, but it also has to face Florida twice, Carolina and Boston in that run of contests.

The Rangers have the best opportunity for upward movement this week with games against the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks.

The Rangers' odds might dip when they get back from the west coast, so they might be worth a look as a team that could overtake Montreal, or even Ottawa.

Western Conference

Montreal Canadians v St Louis Blues

Central Division

  1. Winnipeg - 102
  2. Dallas - 94
  3. Colorado - 91

Pacific Division

  1. Vegas - 94
  2. Los Angeles - 89
  3. Edmonton - 87

Wild-Card Race

  1. Minnesota - 85
  2. St. Louis - 83
  3. Calgary - 79
  4. Vancouver - 78
  5. Utah - 75

The Wild and Blues hold the clear advantages over the three chasers at the moment.

Minnesota is -1000 to make the playoffs, while the Blues are -120.

St. Louis has a few easy matchups on paper coming up against the Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins, two games it needs to win to create more separation for the final wild-card spot.

The Blues in their current form, they are on a seven-game winning streak, could challenge the Colorado Avalanche as well. The Blues and Avs play twice in the next week-and-a-half. Points from those two games would go a long way in the Blues' playoff quest.

All of Minnesota's next five opponents are Eastern Conference teams. It hosts the Washington Capitals on Thursday, then plays the Devils twice and both of the New York teams.

The Wild could use a good string of results after falling in consecutive games to the Dallas Stars and Colorado.

A strong run through those contests could set the Wild up to clinch a playoff berth before the final week of the regular season.

Calgary is 180, Vancouver is 340 and Utah is 1200 to make the postseason.

All three teams need St. Louis' current hot streak to end sooner rather than later to make a run at the final wild-card spot.
