UCLA vs. UConn Prediction

What the Huskies lack in size, they make up for in efficiency. They team is first in points per play, field goal percentage, and margin of victory. They are third in assists per game and have the third-fewest turnovers in the country, per ESPN. The Huskies also have the best player in the tournament in Paige Bueckers, who will look to write the final chapter of her college career with a national title, not just for herself but for Geno Auriemma.
To get there, the Huskies will have to overcome a UCLA team Lauren Betts, who is an above-average shooter, dominates the post, and is as skilled a defender as any player remaining in the tournament. As great as Betts has been, and as much as teammates have Kiki Rice, Timea Gardiner, Gabriela Jaquez have contributed, there is something to be said about the fact that not a single Bruin or their head coach has been in this position before.
Auriemma holds the record for championships in women's college basketball with 11. He has been there, knows the enormity of the moment and all that comes with it. He also knows how to get his players to focus on the task at hand and to not allow the bright lights and cameras to throw them off their game.
That could be key to victory Friday.
The experience of Auriemma, the play of Bueckers and fellow stars Sarah Strong and Azzi Fudd, should be enough to overcome a tough UCLA team, as long as the Huskies do not let it become a game of size.
If that happens, Betts, Rice, and Co. could very well pull off the upset and compete for a national title Sunday afternoon.
Prediction: Connecticut narrowly gets by UCLA
South Carolina vs. Texas Prediction

Texas has the best defense of any remaining team in the tournament. They have shut down their opponents to the point that William & Mary's scored the most on them, 61 in the opening round, and the Longhorns still beat them by 44 points.
The team is built to play defense, each of its starters filling a key role, with Rori Harmon leading the way as a superb on-ball defender. The team is physical and forces their opponents to play their brand of basketball, limiting some to 20 or 30 points fewer than they averaged all season long.
In years past, that would not have been enough to shut down the Gamecocks, who were the most dominant team in women's college basketball each of the last two seasons. In a day and age where the word is woefully overused, they had an aura around them that helped beat teams before they ever stepped on the court.
That has not been the case this season.
South Carolina has lost to the other three teams in the Final Four this season and, despite the team's depth, they are not the big bad entering this year's semifinals. That does not mean that head coach Dawn Staley, one of the premier coaches in the game, will not have a gameplan.
Everyone contributes to South Carolina's gameplan, with any one player showing out on any given night. Texas may have a smothering defense but knowing who to focus on and how to shut them down is a daunting task for anyone.
Throw in the experience that the team has in this position, having been there last year, and you have a team that will not see their blossoming dynasty go away just because their opponents have been so defensively stout.
This is a match-up of the unstoppable force and immovable object. While there is every reason in the world to trust Staley and her crew, "defense wins championships" is a tried and true phrase for a reason.
Prediction: Texas shuts down South Carolina
