Looking To the Future: Three Future Ottawa Senators' Stars

Aug 22, 2010

Erik Karlsson

Already a prominent member of the Sens' defensive corps, with the departure of Anton Volchenkov, Karlsson should easily step in as a top 4 defence-men.

Finishing the 2009-10 season with 5 goals and 26 points, expect Karlsson's  numbers to go up especially with him getting more ice time and he is likely to play alongside Seregi Gonchar.

Karlsson has a good shot and moves the puck well.

And Gonchar should be the perfect mentor for the Sens' future franchise defenceman.

Peter Regin

Proclaimed as "The Danish Wayne Gretzky" Regin is on the way to become one of Denmark's greatest Hockey players (although let's face it, that's not saying much)

After only playing 11 games the year before, last season Regin put up pretty good numbers scoring 13 goals and 29 points in 75 games and also came up huge in the playoffs with 4 points in 6 games and establishing himself as one of the Sens' best two-way players.

With a recently signed contract it looks like the talented Dane will be sticking around for some time which is great news for Ottawa as he will play a big part in the wings in the future.

Jared Cowen

Probably the least "NHL - Ready" of these stars, make no mistake, Jared Cowen will be a star.

Standing at 6ft 5, Cowen has often been compared to Zdeno Chara (which is never a bad thing) and is just the big, physical player the Sens need.

Playing in the WHL last season, Cowen put up 30 points and if he can transfer them over to the NHL, the Ottawa faithful shall be very pleased.

Did i meantion he played for Team Canada at the World Youth Championships this year?

He may see limited actions this year, but in a few years him and Erik Karlsson will have formed a very formidable partnership.
