Mike Locksley Needs To Get Fired

Rocky Long did not win any MWC titles for UNM. However, he did get close and fielded some respectable teams. He also managed to coach the Lobos to seven straight bowl-eligible seasons. He resigned partly because he did not win a MWC title and knew he could not in the future.

Mike Locksley was brought in to win MWC titles... Not bring the program the other way.

That is not a good resume for a first time head coach. Sure, he was only an assistant coach at Illinois when this happened, but he also did not have success while he was there. A school should not gamble millions of dollars and years to rebuild to bring in a coach with a bad track record.

Even before his first football game as a head coach Locksley was in trouble. A former administrative assistant, Sylvia Lopez, accused Locksley of sexual harassment and age discrimination.

Locksley did not have much to say other than change can be difficult for people.

He should have been fired after punching and choking wide receivers coach J.B. Gerald. This nightmare would have ended with Locksley and saved them a lot of cash. Parents want their kids to learn from this type of coach?

Sure, Gerald is not an angel either, but no other college football coach would still have his job if this happened again.

Not to mention, the lawsuit is not something every coach wants to worry about while worrying about winning games

The Lobos lost to the Oregon Ducks 72-0. Even FCS schools had an easier time against FBS schools.

(FCS Portland State only lost to the Ducks 69-0.)

It also could have been a lot worse... The Lobos were down 59-0 at halftime.

That is an embarrassment to the school, state, and the MWC.

First of all, Locksley was at a bar. He has every right to spend his free time at a bar and enjoy himself. However, why wasn't he studying the playbook or trying to improve upon his 1-11 season?

He encountered a student reporter at the bar and approached him aggressively. The student was from the Daily Lobo and had written an article about the Lobo football team that Locksley did not like.

The surveillance tape was destroyed by UNM and no one could see the altercation.

Sounds like another reason Locksley should not be mentoring and coaching young men.

Pretty self-explanatory.

Locksley was supposedly an offensive genius. Were we talking about his off-field offenses?

The Lobos under Long usually had a 1,000+ yard running back... Those days are "Long" gone with Locksley at the helm.

Also, self-explanatory.

Averaging 10.3 points per game will not bring MWC titles back to Albuquerque.

Rocky Long's "boring" offenses look much more appealing...

When a team surrenders more points than the opponent, it will lose. The Lobos are allowing an average 56.3 points per game.

Mike Locksley came into New Mexico and pitched the idea that we would need to add another digit to the scoreboard because his offense would be so awesome. They need to get on it. The visitors' need the extra digit.

Those numbers do not add up to a MWC title. It is hard even for an optimistic fan to think that the Lobos are improving under Locksley. Wasn't last year supposed to be the worst season for UNM?

The Lobos haven't even been competitive under Locksley. Their most recent loss was against UNLV. UNLV is typically at the bottom of the MWC. Also, UNLV is has new head coach and is rebuilding. Locksley is in his second year at UNM and it doesn't look like they will win any games this year.
