NHL Video: The 25 Biggest Divas in the NHL Today

This slideshow will focus on the top 25 NHL Divas in the league today. These guys complain, whine, dive, confront various people in the media and on the ice, and of course, they're very demanding and run on their own schedule.

The list is in no particular order, however, I hope after reading and watching the videos, you will feel free to post a quick ranking, say a top 5 or 10, of the Biggest Diva's in the NHL.

With that said, lets head into the archives and take a gander at who could be the biggest diva in the NHL.

Needless to say, Mike Fisher, who's now married to country star Carrie Underwood, easily makes the list. What compounds his "divaness" is that he eventually got dealt to the Nashville Predators. Fisher did not publicly demand a trade to Nashville, but something is a tad "Fishy" about that deal if you know what I mean.

The cheap shot artist himself, Steve Downie, easily makes an appearance here.

Bryzgalov's comments about Winnipeg land him here in spoiled-brat territory. In my opinion, to leave your teammates behind if your team moved to Winnipeg is not only self-centered, but gutless. Bryzgalov got his wish and his rights were dealt to Philadelphia, where he would eventually sign the richest contract ever for a goaltender in the NHL. The contract ended up being nine years at $51 million.

“You don’t want to go to Winnipeg, right?” Bryzgalov said after the Coyotes lost to Detroit, Wednesday night. “Not many people live there, not many Russian people there. Plus it’s cold. There’s no excitement except the hockey. No park, no entertaining for the families, for the kids. It’s going to be tough life for your family.

I better go to somewhere in Russia, KHL, to be honest. Because KHL is Russian people, it’s family, friends. Even as a cold place, I can speak to people in Russian language"

Pretty obvious addition here, Ribeiro is one of the worst divers and fakers in the NHL. His antics didn't land himself on the good side of the Habs fans and he eventually left Montreal for Dallas.

A pretty pathetic play here by Dan Carcillo. He's been known to embellish and dive at the best of times, and he does so again here. He likes to diss players in the media, such as Maxim Lapierre, Tanner Glass and Raffi Torres. Now with Chicago, look for Carcillo to be one of the most hated players this season in the Western Conference.

When I watch some Habs games, Cammalleri strikes me as that annoying little pest you just can't get rid of. He's essentially the Snooki of the NHL. He likes a few cheapshots here and there too.

When approached about signing in Toronto when he was a free agent, Cammalleri said he didn't want to play in his hometown and didn't want to deal with the headaches of home. He didn't exactly cop out of playing in a pressure cooker, but to me, he wimped out of playing for his hometown Leafs. I'm sure I won't hear the end of that one.

Sorry, but no video for this, however Souray was accused of wife-beating while he was in Montreal, which created quite a messy divorce. Reports out of Montreal later would state that his wife was the one doing the beating of Souray, at least his ego, in the media.

"My wife wanted to make this into some kind of big Hollywood divorce, when it didn't have to be that way," he said.

"You don't want to get into a mudslinging war with a woman you love and share a child with. But what she did was hurtful, unfair and unwarranted. What was in the paper was so untrue. I knew right away that, when the truth was known, people would see that what was reported didn't add up.

"Quebec is the toughest place for domestic violence. If there had been any signs of anything, I would have been arrested. Maybe because this wound up in the media, the police took extra time to make sure everything was copacetic. They did that and came to the conclusion that what I was accused of was bogus.

"My wife wanted to try to hurt me in the worst way possible, by turning the public against me."

Yeah pretty messy you think? For this domestic violence accusation he has to land here.

By far and away one of the best goalies in the NHL when he's on his game, however, he does have issues with pressure. He's almost blown a 3-0 series lead against the Hawks this year, and looked rather disinterested when he did not get the start as Cory Schneider started a game.

Luongo would not sit on the bench for the game, rather he sat in the locker room. Schneider would suffer a freak cramp and Luongo was ushered in to relieve him.

Luongo got torched for four goals when he entered the game.

Rick DiPietro was actually playing in this game and not in the press box with an injury, go figure! Anyways, DiPietro starts the action with a stiff arm to Matt Cooke's head as both fall to the ice. Mayhem ensues and Pens' goalie Brent Johnson was very unappreciative of the cheap shot given to his player, so he comes down to fight DiPietro.

What happens next is pure gold. With one punch Johnson knocks out DiPietro and both exit the ice surface. However after that fight, DiPietro actually missed some more time with "injuries".

For his start of the fight and failure to last 5 seconds, this diva was an easy add.

Brian Burke, despite not being a player, lands here because he is probably the biggest bully when it comes to GMs in the NHL. He's brash, he's mean, he's sour, he's Brian Burke.

He is what he is, a diva he may not appear on the inside, however, his actions and need to be in the spotlight make him a diva in my mind.

This is just a small sampling of some of Brian Burke's best quotes.

We may as well finish off the Leaf duo with Ron Wilson. He's likely one of the more sour coaches in the NHL. He likes to play the media and even confront them and try and embarrass them. He is seen here confronting former Leafs beat reporter Howard Berger about a comment he made in a column about two years ago.

Wilson doesn't stop at the media, he often likes to call out his own players in the media as well. Phil Kessel and Nazem Kadri can attest to that.

Criticized by his teammates for being lazy and not caring, Alex Semin makes an appearance. You can't just sit around and look pretty and get paid, you have to do the little things to succeed and work at your craft. Semin seemingly just goes through the motions, these actions are echoed by former teammate Matt Bradley.

Alexei Kovalev is another Russian who has been accused of being lazy, having all the talent in the world and just not caring. To make matters worse, Kovalev has a bit of a temper that can be activated here and there throughout the course of a game.  He often got into it with coaches as well, most recently with Sens former bench boss Cory Clouston.

He is now out of the NHL as he signed in the KHL (surprised?) this offseason.

Jagr was at the height of his career, likely heading on the downward descent of his career, as he decided to head to Russia, signing a two-year deal with Avangard Omsk of the Kontinental Hockey League.

The best part of this was that Jagr was offered short-term contracts by many NHL teams, most of the one-year variety, however, Jagr took the extra cash and more money to go play in Russia—a nation he is not from.

Jagr is back in the NHL, now that his contract has expired in Russia, hoping to rekindle his lost youth, however, he may just be a small piece now in a championship built Flyers roster.

Earlier in his career, Jagr had what many considered to be the ugliest looking mullet since the days of Al Iafrate and his skullet.

For his real lack of desire to play NHL hockey and take the extra euros to play in Russia, Jagr lands himself a spot in my top 25.

He misses practices, he's hot headed, he likes to fight and he's a bit too cocky. Emery thinks the world revolves around him on some days. For this, he makes my list easily.

Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane, the NHL's best rookie in 2008, was charged with robbery and other counts following an altercation Sunday morning with a cab driver in his hometown.

Buffalo police said the 20-year-old Kane and a 21-year-old cousin, James Kane, had apparently caught a cab from the city's downtown nightclub district at about 4 a.m. The cab driver said he was punched and hit by both men because he did not have 20 cents in change to give them, the police report said.

Pat Kane was obviously under the influence here when he had a dust-up with a cabbie in Buffalo. The reaction that followed really made Kane look foolish and like a spoiled brat. His terrible playoff haircut not too long after that happened doesn't make things better for him either.

Oh Dion. A fauxhawk, the elbow patches and the constant Hollywood action, as he's dating Elisha Cuthbert. His media battle with Sean Avery sorta reeked E-Hollywood. Some days his personal life is being catalogued by TMZ. Diva? Possibly? 

Chris Pronger was an Edmonton Oiler for a short time, that was until he reportedly decided to hang around an Edmonton news reporter. Rumors aside, supposedly he wanted out of Edmonton for family and personal reasons. Long story short, his career in Edmonton was a mess.

On July 3, Pronger was traded to the Anaheim Ducks for forward Joffrey Lupul, defensive prospect Ladislav Šmíd, Anaheim's 2007 first-round draft pick (traded to the Phoenix Coyotes, picked Nick Ross), a conditional first-round draft pick (dependent on the Ducks reaching the Stanley Cup Finals in the next 3 years, which they did, becoming forward Jordan Eberle), and Anaheim's 2008 second-round draft pick

(later traded to the New York Islanders)

 

Jeff Carter wasn't very impressed when he was dealt from the Flyers to the Blue Jackets before the draft. Columbus doesn't have much of a night life scene, and, supposedly, Carter may have been dealt for alleged hard partying habits in Philadelphia.

Carter was going to play next to Rick Nash and Ryan Johansen this year, yet his attitude towards the trade and the pouting really set him apart when it came down to finalizing this list.

The Flyers completely remodelled their team this offseason by trading both Jeff Carter and Mike Richards.

The crazy thing was that they both signed long-term contracts, but, only a few years into the deals, the Flyers decided to cut ties with both of them. They have their reasons, but, according to rumors, they dealt both because of their partying lifestyle and a bit of locker room issues.

I'm not going to speculate, but there is probably more to the two trades than we think.

Yes, John Tortorella makes his appearance here, and for obvious reasons. His tirades with the media and players alike and his overall need for the spotlight land him here.

Ovechkin has been the feature of many NHL commercials and even has tried his hand at a little modelling during his time in the NHL. I am a little surprised by the last thing I said because I generally feel Ovechkin has your typical hockey player look to him, a toothless grin and a head full of helmet hair.

Why someone wants to put him on the cover of modelling magazines I couldn't really tell you. He's also been known to have many, many girlfriends during his time in the league. The man is a pure player.

The video says it all. What Dany Heatley has been known to do in his career is pretty much summed up in this parody. He wanted out of Ottawa because of a general dislike for the team's former coach Cory Clouston and his role with the club. Since the Sens dealt him for Milan Michalek and Jonathan Cheechoo, they have really plummeted down the standings.

Heatley is still dealing with the aftermath of the Dan Snyder car crash to this day as well, which doesn't really help matters.

Crosby has been known throughout the NHL as a crybaby and a complete mouthpiece on the ice. This was his reaction after a non-call when Crosby was stopped on a breakaway. I've always enjoyed this video purely because of how high his voice gets when he starts cursing out the referee.

Jarrett Stoll and Dion Phaneuf have apparently taken his sloppy seconds (former girlfriends Rachel Hunter and Elisha Cuthbert), and Avery is not too happy about it.

Needless to say, from his love life being common knowledge, to his overall dislike by nearly the entire NHL and fans alike, and, lastly, his innate ability to dive and take cheap shots at any time, Avery is easily the biggest diva in the NHL today, possibly of all time.
