NHL Trade Rumors: 5 Teams That Could Use Daniel Alfredsson

Daniel Alfredsson would be a great asset to any team, without a doubt.

That being said, there aren't many teams that would be willing to take a chance on a veteran who does not have many good seasons left.

Alfredsson may very well be on the trade market if the Ottawa Senators fall far from their current position (fourth in the East).

Alfredsson says he does not want to move from Ottawa, wanting to end his career where he started. He is a UFA at the end of the next season, so it is very possible that this is one of the last seasons in Daniel Alfredsson's career.

However, if a chance to move to a cup-contending city were available, that might be a tempting prospect.

Here are five teams that could use the services of Daniel Alfredsson. Whether the move actually happens or not is a different story.

Your opinion is always cherished, so feel free to leave a comment and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames are no longer considered cup contenders. However, speculation has been brewing that the Flames are interested in the services of Daniel Alfredsson.

Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun has reported that this is not true. However, no one ever really knows what's going on behind closed doors.

Daniel Alfredsson would have to waive his no-trade clause, so going to the Flames might be a very unlikely move.

Los Angeles Kings

The Los Angeles Kings are under more pressure than anyone to win the Stanley Cup this season.

Recent acquisitions of both Mike Richards and Simon Gagne have only heightened this expectation.

If the Kings find themselves close to the playoff cutoff line towards the trade deadline, expect the Kings to be in full "buyer" mode.

Los Angeles does not have the cap space to acquire Daniel Alfredsson solely on draft picks and prospects, so a roster player would have to be shipped to Ottawa, or sent to the minors.

Alfredsson would give LA experience, additional secondary scoring and leadership. All things needed for a deep Stanley Cup run.

Detroit Red Wings

This may very well be the last season for Detroit Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom, so the Red Wings might want to pull out all the stops to get Lidstrom another Stanley Cup championship.

This would make five for his career.

This might also be where Daniel Alfredsson comes in.

Both he and Lidstrom might want one last chance at a Stanley Cup ring. Putting them together only makes sense.

One can only assume that there is mutual respect there; they have even played on many international teams together for Sweden.

Adding Alfredsson to the Red Wings picture enhances their secondary scoring, gives additional leadership and a guy who is willing to play any role on a team.

Edmonton Oilers

If the Oilers continue at the pace they are going, they might be in a tough position at the trade deadline.

While the Oilers do have playoff experience (both Ryan Smyth and Nikolai Khabibulin have been to the Cup Finals, Khabibulin winning), there certainly is not enough for a successful run.

Alfredsson would be a good fit because he is used to dealing with younger players. He has been to the Stanley Cup Finals before and has plenty of other playoff experiences.

The Oilers also have plenty of assets the Senators would be looking for in return, so this move might make sense for both teams.

Alfredsson has experience playing the point on the power play, a position that is weak for the Oilers.

This move might make sense. However, the Oilers are one of the surprise teams in the league right now (as with the Senators), so it might be unlikely that they will keep their position in the Western Conference.

Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins have been floundering to start the season.

If this trend continues, the Bruins might be buyers at the trade deadline to make a push just to get into the playoffs.

This would make Daniel Alfredsson an attractive commodity.

Alfredsson has a bit of a connection with Boston as well, having played with both captain Zdeno Chara and forward Chris Kelly during their respective tenures in Ottawa.

Despite winning the cup last season, the Bruins had one of the worst power plays in the league. Alfredsson has been on the best power play in the league for many seasons during the heyday of the Ottawa Senators; his experience in that department might be greatly appreciated.

The Bruins even have the salary cap space to warrant a move like this.

The Bruins should also have confidence with "rental" players, having traded for Tomas Kaberle last season.

This is the move that makes the most sense for acquiring Daniel Alfredsson.
