Alabama Basketball: Crimson Tide's Top 3 Recruiting Targets for 2012

Recruiting is the lifeblood of every athletic program whether it be basketball or football.

Alabama pulled in a top five recruiting class in 2011 featuring the likes of Levi Randolph and Trevor Lacy.

If Anthony Grant wants to keep pushing the Crimson Tide forward and raise them to the upper echelon of the SEC and beyond, then he must continue to win battles on the recruiting trail.

Here are three of the top recruits Alabama is after for 2012.

Devonta Pollard: Small Forward

According to Rivals Pollard is the No. 2 small forward in the nation and ranked ninth overall.

He's long and lean at 6'7" and 200lbs and uses his athleticism to the max around the rim. He can leap out of the building and is a menace on the open floor.

Combine his freakish athletic ability with his skill to knock down perimeter jumpers and you have one of the most sought after recruits in the country.

Physical and basketball talents aside, Pollard also appears to be strong in character.

Over two years ago his father passed due to pancreatic cancer, and back in April his small, rural home burned to the ground due to the same line of storms that ravaged Tuscaloosa with a tornado.

On top of all of this, he is an honor student with a 3.09 GPA.

Currently his list of schools consists of Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Georgetown, Duke and many others.

Andrew White: Shooting Guard

From Chester Virginia, Andrew White currently ranks in the top 15 in shooting guards.

White is an elite athlete and excellent ball handler. He also has excellent range with his jump shot and could ultimately be one of those players who could move back and forth between a two and a three.

Labeled a pure shooter by some, one negative is that some experts believe he relies too much on his perimeter game while under utilizing his supreme athletic ability.

He has already made visits to Louisville, West Virginia and Cincinnati.

Charles Mitchell: Center

Charles Mitchell could be a either a center or power forward.

From Marietta, GA, Mitchell is big at 6'8" and 240 lbs.

He can dominate down low and in the lane, but when pressed is very good at delivering passes to open teammates.

His size does seem to affect is conditioning, which has been the big drawback despite what appears to be a good motor when motivated.

Clemson, Georgia and Georgia Tech are other schools in the mix with Alabama.
