Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl: 10 Reasons Why You Should Watch

The Nevada Wolf Pack and the Boston College Eagles are two of the hottest teams in the nation heading in to the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl game on January 9^th.

It may be one of the more oddly named bowl games this season, but do not let the name scare you away, because there are many reasons to watch this game.

Whether you are a fan of offense, defense or just college football in general, this game is not one that should be missed.

Those who don’t follow the Nevada Wolf Pack should be made aware that their coach, Chris Ault, is already in the College Football Hall of Fame.

During his successful career at Nevada, Ault has had a record of 218-97-1. 

He has also led the Wolf Pack to a bowl game in every season since 2005.

A Nevada victory in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl would cap off arguably his best season as head coach of the Wolf Pack.

Neither Nevada nor Boston College has won a bowl game lately.

In fact, Boston College has not won a bowl game since 2007.

Nevada is even worse, having not won a bowl game since 2005.

This is the first of a few streaks in which something has to give between these two teams.

Both teams need a win about as bad as this guy needs a shirt.

Chris Ault developed and instituted the pistol offense at Nevada in 2005. 

Nevada has been to a bowl game in every season since 2005.  Coincidence?  Probably not.

In case you have never seen the pistol offense run before, it is similar to the shotgun, but instead of the quarterback being five to seven yards behind the center, he is instead three to four yards behind the center, with the running back behind him by a few yards.

Boston College got off to a terrible 2-5 start, despite having solid expectations coming into the season.

I should also mention that their 2-5 start began with two wins before falling apart and losing five games in a row.

The Eagles overcame their rough start and went on to win five games in a row.

This bowl game represents a chance for them to close out their season on a six-game winning streak.

The Wolf Pack did not get off to a bad start like Boston College did, but they are currently riding a six-game winning streak themselves.

That streak includes a comeback victory on the road at Fresno State and an impressive victory over Boise State.

As stated above, if the Wolf Pack run their streak to seven games by winning the Fight Hunger Bowl, they will finish arguably their most successful season in school history.

The Nevada Wolf Pack were the nation’s third best rushing team this season, averaging 305.9 yards per game.

The Boston College Eagles were the nation’s best rush defense, allowing only 80.2 yards per game on the ground.

It is also worth mentioning that Nevada wins its game by scoring points and Boston College wins its games by limiting their opponents and scoring points on defense.

In a contest that features a top offense and a top defense, tuning in will be the only way to see how it plays out.

This guy is a force to be reckoned with on defense and is definitely worth watching.

He is all over the place on defense for the Eagles.

Kuechly finished the regular season with 171 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions.

If the number alone was not enough for you, then I will also mention that he was the nation’s leading tackler.

Colin Kaepernick is the only player in college football history to throw for at least 9,000 yards and run for at least 4,000 yards.

He is tied with former Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback Eric Crouch for rushing touchdowns at the quarterback position at 59.

He has had a stellar four-year career as the starting quarterback at Nevada, leading the team to a bowl game in all four years and a record of 33-19.

Kaepernick is a 6’6”, 225-pound, tall and lanky playmaker who has speed and can throw the ball.

This will be his last collegiate game, and he should ride off into the sunset in style.

This game is being played in San Francisco.

While most people probably assumed that the game will be played at Candlestick Park where the 49ers play, this game will actually be played at AT&T Park where the Giants play.

That is correct.  Another college football game will be played at a baseball stadium this season.

Having this game played on a baseball field gives fans a unique venue to watch the game, which is something that only happens a few times each season.

This game is the second to last bowl game of the season.

Although bowl game No. 35 is the one that everybody has been waiting for since the BCS standings went final in December, bowl game No. 34 should be a solid lead into the BCS National Championship Game.

Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick will do his best impression of Cam Newton against Boston College.

If you are not a Nevada or Boston College fan, those are all reasons that you should tune into the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl on January 9^th.

Whether you want to see how Colin Kaepernick finishes his career or how disruptive Luke Kuechly is on defense, it’s your choice, but one thing is for sure, this game should not be overlooked.
