Nonito Donaire vs. Omar Narvaez: 7 Bold Predictions for Donaire's Latest Matchup

Oct 21, 2011

1. There Will Be a Round 1 Knock Down

All though the fight won't end in the first round, Nonito Donaire will knock Omar Narvaez down in the opening round of the fight.

I expect Donaire to come out firing at will, and will give Narvaez a taste of what is to come for the duration of the fight.

Donaire has exceptional punching power as he has displayed in his past four fights winning them all by knockout victory, something that will be a near happening in Round 1 of the bout.

2. Omar Narvaez Will Struggle with Jump in Weight Early on

Narvaez is making the jump up to bantamweight for the fight against Donaire, and he will struggle to find his game early on in the ring.

Look for Narvaez to take a few rounds to adjust to the extra pounds he has put on, as the training he did for the fight and the jump is no match for the actual, in-fight experience. He should be comfortable from the third round on.

3. Narvaez Will Steal a Round or Two with His Defense

Omar Narvaez is a good defensive fighter, and will use his defense to win a round or two from Nonito Donaire in the bout around the third or fourth round of the fight.

Making Donaire miss and land a few counter punches in the mix will give Narvaez the edge in the rounds he does not take a beating from Donaire.

Do not look for the rounds that are overly defensive to be a crowd favorite, something that should deter Narvaez from trying to be too defensive because no fighter wants to hear a chorus of boo's while they are in the ring.

4. Donaire's Height Advantage Will Be His Greatest Edge

Doniare towers over the 5'3" Narvaez standing at an above average bantamweight height of 5'7".

The four-inch height advantage will make it tough for Narvaez to land punches on Donaire, but Narvaez is know to attempt weird leaping punches, which he could land on the fast Donaire if the timing is absolutely perfect.

5. Narvaez Will Not Land Any Significant Shots

Due to his lack of size and Nonito Donaire being the faster fighter, Omar Narvaez will find it tough to land any shots, let alone power shots on Donaire.

To land a power blow, Narvaez will have to move in closer to offset the height advantage of Donaire, and then set up to throw a power punch. Donaire should be more that ready to defend against the smaller opponent utilizing his speed advantage.

6. Narvaez Will Not Look His Best in First Fight in the U.S.

With this being the first time the undefeated, long reigning Argentinian super flyweight champ will fight in the United States in his 37-fight career, fighting in the big city of New York could knock Omar Narvaez off his game.

It has been seen time-and-time again that fighters from outside of the U.S. coming off longtime win streaks or highly successful career's in their home countries, come to America and look like they are fighting scared. Expect Nonito Donaire to pounce on Narvaez if he comes out scared.

With a poor showing in this Saturday nights fight, don't look for Narvaez to make a return to the U.S. anytime soon there after.

7. Donaire Will Win by Knockout

Although Omar Narvaez has never lost a fight in his 37-fight career, the step up in class against a top five pound-for-pound fighter will prove to be too much in the end for Narvaez.

Donaire has incredible power for a fighter of his size, and has won by knockout victory in 10 of his last 12 fights.

Look for Donaire to start going for the KO as early around Round 5 and I feel like it will finally happen around the eighth or ninth round.
