The Greatest Toronto FC Goals of All Time

Despite having a rather young history, there have been a number of world-class goals achieved at Toronto Football Club. 

Whether from set piece, penalty or in open action, all of these goals share something in common— greatness.  

Take a moment to view some of the best goals that have been achieved in the five-year history of Toronto FC.

With huge expectations, Laurent Robert once again teamed up with former skipper John Carver.  This Newcastle alumni did really nothing in Toronto, except for this goal. 

For all those Newcastle fans, this was nothing but a small glimmer of what Robert once was.

Although Ricketts never amounted to much in Toronto, this goal showed what skill and potential he did have.  Despite being a fan favorite, Ricketts never did live up to his pedigree here in Toronto. 

This goal is impressive for a few reasons.

First of all, the entire play was set up from the foot of goalkeeper Stefan Frei.

Second, the fact that this volley is taken on the run and placed beautifully in the top corner.  

World-class strike.

Chad Barrett is known in Toronto for his inability to finish.  There are dozens of highlight reels that depict every miss he had in Toronto.  

Despite his hard work ethic, his inability to bury will keep him from becoming an MLS great.

Just last Wednesday, one of the most brilliant Toronto FC goals came off the head of rookie Luis Silva in a CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinal leg against the Los Angeles Galaxy.  

I was in attendance for this goal with 47,000 other Toronto faithful.  This goal drove the crowd insane. It was truly a surreal moment in Toronto FC history. 

You can't really talk about goals or Dwayne De Rosario without mentioning the Montreal Miracle.  

Having a huge mountain to climb and needing a massively lopsided win to take the Canadian Nutralite Championship for a CONCACAF Champions League berth and after conceding early, De Rosario led the way to an amazing victory netting three goals. 

His first goal was a beautiful bicycle from inside the box (2:00)

He later slid the ball into the bottom corner from just inside of the box (2:56)

Early in the second half, De Rosario is sprung lose on a breakaway, burying his third of the game (3:32)

In terms of goals, his bicycle kick that started the night was easily one of the best TFC goals of all-time.  

In terms of performance, De Ro's efforts of this night will never be forgotten. 

Despite the absolute lack of interest from the commentator ("Oh, that's a goal"), this goal is easily one of the best free-kick strikes in MLS history.  This world-class strike comes from such a distance, I was surprised when watching back in 2007 that he would even attempt goal.  

Jim Brennan's goal will long be considered one of the best, if not the best, in Toronto FC history.  

However, I have another goal that will take the crown in this instance, not for appeal, but for its importance.   

Despite not being the most appealing goal, this goal was the biggest of franchise history.  

Goal scoring has basically always been a problem for Toronto and their inaugural season was no different.  In the twenty-fourth minute of Toronto's fifth MLS game, Danny Dichio ended the drought and sent the fans into rapture.  

As soon as the goal was scored, BMO-padded seat covers were immediately turned into Frisbees and launched onto the field. I guess they didn't think that idea through.   

This goal deserves a class distinction of its own, as it will always live on in TFC folklore for years to come.
