France and Denmark are two of the most familiar foes at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The pair of European sides will face off on Saturday in Group D in their third meeting of 2022.

Denmark defeated France twice in the UEFA Nations League in June and September. The Danes outscored Les Bleus 4-1 over 180 minutes.

The two results should provide Denmark with some hope that it can challenge France once again in a game that it needs to win to increase its chances to advance to the knockout round.

France's motivation is easy to understand. Les Bleus can enact some revenge on Denmark while getting closer to the round of 16.

France is the only team in Group D with three points. Denmark and Tunisia have one point and Australia has zero points.

The reigning World Cup champion could advance to the round of 16 with a win depending on what happens in the Tunisia-Australia game earlier on Saturday.

France Looking for Some Revenge Against Denmark

Denmark is one of the best-suited squads to take on France because the Danes took two wins off Les Bleus in the UEFA Nations League this year.

The losses in June and September should hand France an extra dose of motivation to pick up its second victory of the 2022 World Cup.

France turned in four goals in its opening win over Australia, but those tallies did not come until Australia delivered a wake-up call to the French defense in the ninth minute.

Olivier Giroud has some extra personal motivation that could help France reach six points on Saturday. Giroud, who scored twice against Australia, is tied with Thierry Henry for the most goals in France national team history.

The combination of Giroud and Kylian Mbappe should put the Danish defense under pressure from the start. Mbappe thrived in a wide role versus Australia with Giroud playing as the center forward.

Giroud and Mbappe could have some extra pressure on their shoulders because Denmark carries more potential in attack against the France defense. France needs to be as clinical in the final third as it was against Australia to fend off any challenge that is incoming from the Danes.

France's midfield could be the X-factor in the matchup. Adrien Rabiot and Aurelien Tchouameni played well in midfield in the opener. A strong performance from them against Denmark would go a long way to France confirming itself as a tournament favorite, even without N'Golo Kante and Paul Pogba.

Denmark Needs to Be More Clinical in Final Third

Denmark left its match against Tunisia with zero goals from four shots on target. The Danes attempted a total of 11 shots.

The opening performance was not ideal for the Danes, especially against a perceived weaker opponent it was expected to beat.

Kasper Dolberg and Andreas Skov Olsen could not challenge Tunisia on a consistent basis, and they need to do better versus France and throughout the rest of the tournament.

Dolberg and Skov Olsen each scored versus France in Copenhagen in September. Andreas Corneilus was responsible for two tallies in the June win at the Stade de France.

Denmark may be willing to rotate Corneilus into the starting XI because of his previous success against France and the lackluster performance from the two strikers in the opener.

Christian Eriksen will be pegged by most analysts as the key for Denmark's attack to unlock the France back line, but the real key could be Mikkel Damsgaard.

The Brentford player is one of the best young attacking midfielders in the world, and he scored two big goals for Denmark against Russia and England at UEFA Euro 2020.

A more positive performance from the Danish attack could allow the European side to get a result and, at least, build up more confidence for the group finale against Australia.
