Chicago Bears: Top 5 Players in the Week 2 Loss to Green Bay

It started ugly, and it ended ugly. The Bears had a lot of hope heading into Thursday night's encounter with the Green Bay Packers.

They were coming off a thrilling victory over the Colts, Green Bay had lost it's season opener and the Bears finally had the talent to compete with the Cheeseheads.

Sadly that talent did not show up to play last night as the Bears fell to the Packers 23-10. The offense couldn't move the ball or score points, and the defense couldn't stop the Packers' high powered offense.

Cutler couldn't get things going because he had Clay Matthews in his face all night. He was sacked seven times—four of those times coming from Matthews.

Although Cutler did throw a touchdown pass last night, it was quickly forgotten among his four interceptions.

The Bears' offensive line struggled to put blocks on the speedy Packers defense. The running game looked decent until Matt Forte injured his ankle in the third quarter and did not return to the game. His status for Week 3 is up in the air at the moment.

The game started as an ugly defensive battle without anyone scoring in the first quarter. Then the Packers dropped 13 points in the second quarter and never looked back.

By the time the Bears finally put points on the board, it was too little too late. Chicago is now 1-1 as they prepare for the St. Louis Rams in Week 3.

I am sure that the Packers are riding high on a wave of emotion after getting their first victory of the season over their arch-rivals.

Despite the Bears' lackluster performance on Thursday night, I did manage to find five players who had a good game despite the loss.

And here are those players now.....

No. 5 Tim Jennings

Tim Jennings interception in the fourth quarter helped set up the Bears' only touchdown of the game. He now has three picks on the season.

Many people doubted the ability of Jennings before the season started. But in just two games, he has proven that he is a valuable member of this Bears defensive unit.

No. 4 Kellen Davis

If it wasn't for Kellen Davis' big 21-yard touchdown catch, the Bears would have never found the end zone.

The only other tight end to record a statistic last night was Matt Speath, who had one reception for four yards.

While it was good to see Davis find the end zone for the first time this season, the Bears still haven't gotten much out of any of their tight ends this year.

Chicago needs to get their ends more involved in the offense if they hope to move forward this year.

No. 3 Matt Forte

Despite suffering an injury which took him out of the game, Matt Forte still managed to be the driving force for the Bears offense.

He had 80 total yards before suffering the injury and would end up finishing the game as the Bears' leading receiver with four catches for 49 yards.

Let us all pray that the ankle injury isn't serious and that he will be ready for St. Louis next week. While Michael Bush is a formidable backup, Forte is the heart and soul of the Bears offense.

No. 2 Julius Peppers

While Aaron Rodgers did give the Bears a tough time last night, he was unable to escape Julius Peppers. Peppers sacked Rodgers twice and forced the Packers offensive line to make adjustments.

He was one of the few positives for the Bears defensively. If Peppers keeps up the hard work, he should be on his way to another All-Pro season.

No. 1 Shea McClellin

If there was ever a time for the rookie defensive end to prove himself, last night was that time. If people are still wondering if Shea McClellin can play defensive end in a 4-3 scheme, I think he proved it against the Packers.

And Aaron Rodgers couldn't have been a more perfect quarterback to go up against. After getting dogged in training camp, McClellin showed some upside in the preseason.

And now that we are two games into the regular season, the former Boise State standout has shown that thus far that he can play with the big boys.

After his performance last night, I'm sure McClellin is licking his chops waiting to get his hands on Sam Bradford next week.
