Cincinnati Bearcats Football: Updating Player Performances from the NFL Combine

The Cincinnati Bearcats had three representatives at the NFL combine over the weekend and all three had rather impressive showings.

Isaiah Pead, Derek Wolfe and John Hughes were the three Bearcat representatives.

Hughes and Wolfe were both defensive tackles in college, but Wolfe may be moving to defensive end at the next level.

Pead has the highest draft prospects of the three and is one of the 10 highest-rated running backs in the draft.

Here is a breakdown of how the three fared at the combine over the past few days.

Derek Wolfe

Wolfe participated in all of the drills where fellow defensive lineman John Hughes did not.

He was impressive in everything, but excelled most in the bench press with 33 reps of 225 pounds. That ranked him 10th among defensive linemen and only three reps from being second.

According to NFL.com, Wolfe also ran an impressive 40 time, finishing at 5.01 seconds. That is a solid number for a 300-pounder considering most of those who ranked ahead of him are defensive ends who will likely play linebacker at the next level.

The other results for Wolfe include a 108-inch broad jump, 33.5-inch vertical leap, 7.26-second three-cone drill and 4.44-second 20-yard shuttle.

Wolfe certainly did nothing to hurt his status, and will likely be a middle-to-late round selection come April.

John Hughes

Where Derek Wolfe is shedding a few pounds to possibly play the defensive tackle position, John Hughes is putting on a few to give him a better body for the defensive tackle position.

According to NFL.com, Hughes weighed in at 309 pounds, which is up slightly from where it was at the end of the year. At 6'2", Hughes has the size to play defensive tackle at the next level.

Hughes was not as impressive in the bench press as Wolfe, completing 28 reps. He did not participate in any of the other drills and will likely do so at Cincinnati pro day next week.

Hughes is not as much of a lock to get drafted as Wolfe, but still has a shot to go in the later rounds with an impressive showing on pro day.

Isaiah Pead

Isaiah Pead certainly has the best prospects of any Bearcat in the draft and has only improved his stock over the past month.

After winning MVP of the Senior Bowl, Pead was as impressive as any player at the combine.

According to NFL.com, he finished fifth among all 30 running backs with a time of 4.47-seconds. Pead also put on five pounds from his playing days at Cincinnati and weighed in at 197, which is close to the 200 he is trying to get to.

Pead was also equally impressive in the three-cone drill, finishing fourth overall at 6.95 seconds. The three-cone drill is a great way to not only measure speed, but also elusiveness and agility.

These numbers not only improved Pead's status as a running back, but also as a possible punt returner.

The other numbers for Pead include a 33-inch vertical jump, 116-inch broad jump and 4.32-second 20-yard shuttle.

Pead's status is quickly rising and he could find himself in the second or third round by draft day.
