Mayweather vs. Cotto: Maincard, Undercard Results and Recap
Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto are ready to do battle tonight on HBO pay-per-view. The main televised card is supposed to start at 9:00 p.m. ET.
First up on the card is Deandre Latimore vs. Carlos Quintana at junior middleweight.
Then, junior welterweight prospect Jesse Vargas vs. Steve Forbes at welterweight.
In the co-header, it's Mexico's favorite son Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Shane Mosley for Canelo's WBC junior middleweight world title.
And finally, the most anticipated fight of the year—Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto for Cotto's WBA junior middleweight world championship.
The results of each match will be right here as the televised card progresses to its end, so just refresh every so often tonight to see whether the likes of Mosley and Cotto can overcome the odds.
Preliminary Card
Keith Thurman disposes of Brandon Hoskins in the third round by TKO.
Omar Figuero TKO'ed Robbie Cannon in Round 2.
Deandre Latimore vs. Carlos Quintana
Deandre Latimore dropped a loss to Carlos Quintana in a blowout.
Quintana was in full control and dropped him in Round 6 and it was over.
Quintana wins by TKO in Round 6.
Jesse Vargas vs. Steve Forbes
The young Jesse Vargas took old Steve Forbes to school in a 10-round unanimous decision.
The young Mexican warrior under Mayweather's promotional banner will move on in the welterweight division seeking success.
Saul Alvarez vs. Shane Mosley
Saul Alvarez was outboxed in the first round as Shane Mosley showed some life in a stiff jab.
Then Alvarez piled on the damage in Rounds 2 and 3 despite receiving a headbutt from Mosley.
Alvarez suffered the first cut of his career and still was rocking Mosley's head throughout the fight.
In Round 5, the bout became a dogfight with Canelo and Mosley slugging it out. Canelo continually got the better of the exchanges the more of he opened up.
By Round 6, Mosley was taking various strings of combos and his Face grew very swollen.
Mosley looked like he might go out in rounds 8 and 9.
Canelo battered Mosley, but not in submission.
Mosley hung in there and actually stung Canelo a couple times, including right before the final bell.
Canelo walked away with the decision, but Mosley walks away knowing he survived against a fighter long enough to be his son.
Canelo defeated Mosley by unanimous decision.
Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto
In Round 1, Mayweather fought behind the jab against Miguel Cotto. Cotto missed a few straights, but was able to land a few up top before a bit of clenching.
Cotto picked up Mayweather as if to bodyslam him in Round 2 after a rare effective flurry from Mayweather, known for his single potshots.
Cotto had Mayweather on the ropes, landing a few to the body. Though Cotto's jab was the story of Round 3 as it landed clean on quite a few occasions, Mayweather pulled together a string of right handed flurries that landed clean.
Cotto finally made Mayweather do what few have managed and made Mayweather draw blood from his nose in Round 6.
Round 8 proved to be the telling round of how close this fight would be. Cotto blasted Mayweather against the ropes.
By Round 9, Cotto had Mayweather in trouble as Mayweather missed a ton of shots.
Round 10, Mayweather made some adjustments but Cotto and his fists found their way through Mayweather's defense.
Round 11 and 12 were more in Mayweather's favor as Cotto tired out. Mayweather still took some nice shots but he barely scrapped out the last two rounds tome.
Mayweather defeated Cotto by unanimous decision.
