Mark Harrison: 5 Things You Need to Know About Rutgers WR

It's been something of a rocky road to the 2013 NFL draft for Rutgers wide receiver Mark Harrison.

As Adam Schefter of ESPN reported at the time, Harrison was one of two players linked to a trashed hotel room at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

However, that bump in the road doesn't completely erase what Harrison accomplished while at Rutgers. As he attempts to move past Indianapolis and on to the NFL, here are five things you need to know about the big wideout.

Background

Full Name: Mark Harrison

Hometown: Stratford, Connecticut

High School: Bunnell High School (Stratford, Connecticut)

Major: Labor Studies

Year: Senior

Harrison was a two-year starter and twice won the state championship at Bunnell High School, earning All-State honors after a senior season in which he caught 61 passes for 1,673 yards.

A 3-star prospect according to Rivals.com, Harrison was rated the fourth-best overall player from the state of Connecticut coming out of high school.

After playing very sparingly as a freshman, Harrison worked his way into the starting lineup as a sophomore and proceeded to lead the Big East in touchdown catches while earning offensive team MVP honors.

Harrison's stats plummeted as a junior, when he made only 14 catches despite playing in 12 games.

Although his numbers rebounded a bit last year, Harrison's collegiate production was far from eye-popping.

Interesting Facts

In regards to that now-infamous trashed hotel room in Indy, both Harrison and roommate DeAndre Hopkins have denied any involvement. Harrison's agent, Ed Wasielewski, echoed that claim.

On a different note, Harrison was a track star in high school, earning First Team Spring All-Star honors from the Connecticut Post as a senior, according to Rutgers' website.

In November of 2010, Harrison had the second-best receiving game in Rutgers history, hauling in 10 catches for 240 yards and four touchdowns against Cincinnati.

Observations

Per NFL.com:

Harrison hasn't always lived up to his measurables, and has had some ups and downs throughout his career at Rutgers. Still, his blend of size and athletic ability will result in some team taking a flier on him.

Per Wes Stueve of Bleacher Report:

Harrison can play in almost any offensive scheme, but he would probably be best off in a downfield offense that takes advantage of his size and speed. Harrison is capable of attacking downfield, and his lack of quickness makes him less of a fit in a West Coast offense. Harrison could eventually become a strong possession receiver, but he needs to do a better job of extending his hands first.

Per Rob Rang of CBS Sports:

Harrison has the blend of size and speed that every scout is looking for but to earn more than late round or free agent considerations, he'll need to revert back to the consistent playmaking form he showed earlier in his career.
