Rating the Liverpool Players Against West Brom

Liverpool dominated proceedings at Anfield against West Bromwich Albion, but ended up at the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline.

Bleacher Report is rating the performances of the Liverpool players from this match.

Some Reds underperformed on the day, while others produced some surprising performances.

Nothing positive happened in the end, however, and the Reds were left contemplating what could have been had certain players performed.

Here are the Liverpool Player Ratings against West Bromwich.

Pepe Reina

Rating: 6

Pepe Reina could do little to stop either of West Bromwich Albion's goals and was solid throughout.

Produced a great save on Youssuf Mulumbu's long-range strike that ultimately led to the game-opening goal.

Glen Johnson

Rating: 6

Johnson wasn't horrible, but just had a plain average game on both ends of the pitch.

He had one or two moments offensively such as a nice volleyed shot in the first half and a cutback that almost led to a goal.

Still, he didn't have a huge impact on the game.

Jamie Carragher

Rating: 6.5

Jamie Carragher had a solid outing.

He put his vast experience to good use and snuffed out the threat of Shane Long despite his obvious lack of pace.

He dealt well with anything West Bromwich was able to muster in his vicinity.

Daniel Agger

Player Rating: 5

Daniel Agger was okay until West Bromwich's opener. He came close on a header in the first half and rarely put a foot wrong.

Things took a dramatic turn when he lost Gareth McAuley during the corner, which led to the game's opening goal, then a turn for the worse as he was bamboozled by Romelu Lukaku on two runs, one of which led to a goal.

Jose Enrique

Rating: 6

Jose Enrique gave the ball away quite a lot going forward and that hampered Liverpool's attacks.

He won the ball back a fair few times after losing possession but could have been much more effective.

Defensively he had a decent game.

Lucas Leiva

Rating: 6

Lucas Leiva played a simple, solid game.

He rarely lost the ball, played the simple pass and won back possession for his side when necessary.

Steven Gerrard

Rating: 6

It was a solid game from Steven Gerrard minus the penalty miss.

He came close on a couple occasions and sprayed passes about the pitch with accuracy.

Stewart Downing

Rating: 7

Stewart Downing was surprisingly Liverpool's best player on the night. He was full of confidence and everything he did for the Reds was positive.

He took on his man time and again, put in dangerous crosses and forced Brom's Ben Foster into some tough saves.

Jonjo Shelvey

Rating: 5.5

Jonjo Shelvey didn't have a great game playing behind Luis Suarez.

He wasn't the creative outlet the side needed and his most important contribution was being offside at the end of two good opportunities for the Reds.

Jordan Henderson

Rating: 5.5

Jordan Henderson worked hard throughout the game, but did little else of note.

His clever back-heel chance stands out but he was virtually anonymous on the attacking end for the majority of his time on the pitch.

Luis Suarez

Rating: 5

Luis Suarez left his shooting boots at home in this game. The Uruguayan hit plenty of wayward shots and succumbed to frustration towards the end of the game.

He went down too easily for the penalty and gained a yellow card for his troubles as the end result became clearer.

Substitutes

Raheem Sterling -  5.5

Sterling affected West Bromwich Albion with his pace but didn't have a great impact on proceedings.

Fabio Borini -  5.5

Fabio Borini had a solid effort saved by Ben Foster, but otherwise did little to change the game.

Philippe Coutinho - 5.5

Coutinho had less time to make an impact and one can only point to a shot deflected out of bounds for a corner.
