BYU vs. Savannah State Complete Game Preview

BYU will welcome FCS foe Savannah State to Provo this weekend for senior night. The Cougars and Tigers have never met before, so the game will be a first for both teams.

With a win over UNLV last week, BYU became bowl eligible and gained its second straight victory. Savannah State, on the other hand, has not won a game all season, and it doesn't look like that will change this Saturday.

So, what should we expect out of BYU's final home game? Read on to find out.

BYU's Keys to Victory

Capitalize on Big-Play Opportunities

BYU had several chances to convert on huge passing plays against UNLV and failed to capitalize. Against a weaker team, the Cougs should be able to come up with a few more big plays this Saturday.

We saw a glimpse of a trick play from Robert Anae midway through last week's game, but it was stopped to review a penalty. With a weak FCS team coming to Provo, BYU will have the chance to not only run up the score but also create some highlight-worthy moments.

Get the Backups in Quickly

There's nothing worse than having key players getting hurt in a seemingly meaningless game, and with the injury-prone karma BYU has faced, it should get the backups in the game as soon as possible.

With the Cougs losing plenty of seniors—26, to be exact—Saturday will be a chance to give younger players some playing time. BYU should take advantage of this and play it safe.

Cougars Players to Watch

Nate Carter (RB)

Carter has been stuck in a limited role all season, but when given the opportunity, he has shined. In last week's game against UNLV, he had seven carries for 55 yards, and he rushed for a career-high 87 against Nevada.

Against Savannah State, Carter will surely get chances to show his skills. With Jamaal Williams out for the season, watch for Carter this Saturday.

Kai Nacua (DB)

With all of the injuries BYU's secondary has faced, Nacua has been tossed into a larger role for the past several games. He made his presence felt against UNLV, totaling four solo tackles, a deflected pass and an impressive interception.

Nacua may be one of the players to see limited minutes in this week's probable blowout, but he could be poised for a big game. He definitely has the skill to be a star at BYU, and he is well on his way.

Prediction

In the final game in Provo for 26 Cougars seniors, Saturday will surely be a memorable day. But here's the biggest question: By how much will BYU win?

Georgia Southern put up 83 points on Savannah State earlier this season, and that could be a reasonable goal for the Cougs. Although Bronco Mendenhall will surely call off the dogs before then, it will still be a big blowout.

A Mendenhall-led BYU team has never scored more than 59 on an FCS team. That may change on Saturday.

Prediction: BYU wins, 63-10
