Olympic 2024 Medal Count: Final Tally, Winners from Day 12 Early Events

The United States and China are back level on top of the gold medal table at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Team USA and China each have 24 golds at the Paris Games after China took gold in the men's 61kg weightlifting event.

The United States added to their medal total in that event, though, thanks to a bronze from Hampton Morris.

Team USA has a massive edge in overall medals, but some work is left to do to clear China in the race for the most golds. The Americans will try to gain some separation in the afternoon's track and field events.

Hampton Morris picked up a bronze on Wednesday morning for Team USA in weightlifting.

Weightlifting is not typically a medal-producing sport for the Americans at the Summer Olympics.

Morris, a 20-year-old from Georgia, won Team USA's first men's weightlifting medal since 1984.

Morris' bronze gave Team USA more third-place finishes than any spot on the medal podiums in Paris. Team USA has 24 gold medals, 31 silver and 32 bronze.

The advantage in the gold-medal table was cut to one since Li Fabin won gold in the 61kg event for China, who is typically the best nation in weightlifting.
