AEW Collision Results: Winners, Live Grades, Reaction, Highlights Before All In

Collision.
Collision.

Welcome to Bleacher Report's live coverage of AEW Collision on August 24.

This is the final show before Sunday's All In PPV, so this was AEW's last chance to make any changes and sell fans on buying the event.

Here is a look at what was advertised for Saturday's show:

  • Hook vs. Big Bill
  • The Conglomeration vs. Undisputed Kingdom
  • Lio Rush and Top Flight vs. Pac and BCC
  • Harley Cameron vs. Willow Nightingale
  • Jeff Jarrett vs. Ariya Daivari
  • Katsuyori Shibata vs. Jay Lethal

Let's take a look at what happened on the go-home episode of Collision before All In.

The Conglomeration vs. Undisputed Kingdom

Collision.
Collision.

Tomohiro Ishii sat silently on commentary to watch Orange Cassidy, Kyle O'Reilly and Mark Briscoe take on Matt Taven, Mike Bennett and Roderick Strong.

The Chicken and Mr. Kanellis started for their teams with an exchange of chops. This bout did a good job mixing fast-paced action with slower comedy spots so the crowd had enough time to react to each spot.

We all know AEW trios bouts can range wildly in quality. Much like any bout, the talent in the ring makes a difference, but the level of chemistry between opponents also played a factor.

A lot of these guys have experience working together, especially Roddy and OC after their feud this year. While this won't win any Match of the Year awards, it was an entertaining bout that had the live crowd reacting quite a bit.

This bout may have gone on longer than necessary but not in a way that hurt it. After several false finishes, O'Reilly won for his team by making Taven tap out to a guillotine choke.

Result: The Conglomeration

Grade: B-

Notable Moments and Observations

  • For some reason, Tony Schiavone kept pausing while he was speaking seemingly at random.
  • Watching Briscoe bark at the camera during the somber sounds of "Where is my Mind?" is quite a sight.
  • The ref stopped Bennett from using a chair but was unable to stop Strong from using it on Briscoe.
  • Why does Taven look so manic in his promo picture?
  • One of Strong's backbreakers on KOR looked questionable.

Willow Nightingale vs. Harley Cameron

Collision.
Collision.

The CMLL women's champion was in non-title action as Nightingale took on Cameron, who didn't have Saraya in her corner for some reason.

The former QTV correspondent tried to take control early, but The Babe With the Power easily took her down with a body slam.

Ishii continued to silently observe with a headset on as his Conglomeration ally found herself on defense against Cameron.

The Australian grappler has less than a dozen matches under her belt in AEW but continues to show improvements with each performance.

Nightingale no-sold several strikes before hitting The Babe With the Powerbomb for the win. This was a decent outing and lasted just long enough for what it was.

Result: Nightingale defeated Cameron

Grade: C+

Notable Moments and Observations

  • Cameron's scream could break glass. She hit such a high pitch.
  • Willow was laying in those clotheslines in the corner.
  • Ishii is the best guest commentator ever.

Katsuyori Shibata vs. Jay Lethal

Collision.
Collision.

Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara accompanied Shibata to the ring for his match against Lethal, who had Sonjay Dutt and Satnam Singh with him.

The opponents had a clean handshake before locking up and trading holds. These are two men who have honed their technical ability for years, so all of their transitions were smooth without looking too choreographed.

Lethal focused a lot of his offense on Shibata's leg to take away his kicking ability, but it didn't stop him from channeling the Von Erichs with an Iron Claw before locking in an armbar for the submission victory.

This was a decent outing but with five more minutes, this could have been much more exciting. It felt like they were just getting going when it ended.

Result: Shibata defeated Lethal

Grade: B-

Notable Moments and Observations

  • Rhodes and Guevara issued an open challenge for All In. Dustin putting on a complicated face paint design for a promo and to stand at ringside is real dedication.
  • Lethal looks like he has put some muscle on.
  • Shibata did a great job selling his injured leg.

Stat and Stoke Squash, Hook vs. Big Bill

Collision.
Collision.

Stokely Hathaway and Kris Statlander squashed two jobbers in a quick match to give them some momentum heading into All In.

Result: Stat and Stoke won

Grade: Incomplete

Hook was in action next against his All In opponent's ally, Big Bill. Chris Jericho joined the commentary team as Hook ran at Bill and began unloading on him.

The Redwood hit a fallaway slam to stop him in his tracks. Bryan Keith lurked at ringside and tried to get involved whenever he could, but the ref was keeping an eye on him most of the time.

Bill focused a lot of his offense on Hook's injured eye to further soften him up for Jericho on Sunday. He dominated almost the entire segment before and during the break.

Surprisingly, Bill turned the crowd in his favor during the break and was being loudly cheered every time he inflicted damage on his opponent. The UK crowd was going wild for The Redwood and began booking once Hook applied his finisher and scored a submission win.

This match was nothing special, but the crowd's reactions made it so much more entertaining. This was fun just because of how unexpected it was.

Result: Hook defeated Big Bill

Grade: B

Notable Moments and Observations

  • The video of Statlander training Hathaway was great.
  • The video for Toni Storm and Mariah May with Ben Mankiewicz was fantastic.
  • Jericho was really leaning into his new cadence on commentary.

Jeff Jarrett vs. Ariya Daivari

Collision.
Collision.

Karen Jarrett accompanied Jeff to the ring for his match against Daivari, who didn't have any of his Premier Athletes teammates by his side.

The crowd was firmly in Double J's corner and chanted for the 12-time world champion as he tossed Daivari around.

The crowd was going absolutely bonkers and you could see how much it helped the wrestlers. They were having a ball with the fans and you could see it in the smile on Jeff's face.

The Last Outlaw has been a heel for the vast majority of his career, so seeing him being lauded as he enters the later stage of his career has been a nice change of pace for his character. He is playing the weathered veteran role perfectly because that is exactly what he is.

Jarrett won with The Stroke to end a match that would have been overlooked on any other show. The crowd is completely responsible for making this as fun as it was.

Result: Double J defeated Daivari

Grade: C+

Notable Moments and Observations

  • Karen has a good concerned face whenever Jeff is in trouble.
  • Jarrett's strut is still a great taunt.

Pac and BCC vs. Lio Rush and Top Flight

Collision.
Collision.

Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli teamed up with Pac to take on Lio Rush, Dante and Darius Martin in the main event. The crowd erupted for The Bastard.

If you are even slightly familiar with these six competitors then we don't need to tell you how good they are. The best part was the way everyone used their respective skills.

Top Flight, Rush and Pac are all incredibly talented high-flyers, but in different ways. The Martins defy gravity, Rush is as quick as a cat, and Pac combines unreal power with equally impressive agility to create a unique style.

Then you have Yuta, one of AEW's best technicians, and Castagnoli, the strongest pound-for-pound wrestler on the planet. All six of these men blended their styles to put on a match worthy of being in the main event slot.

Pac secured the victory for his team with a Black Arrow, earning them a spot in the trios ladder match at All In. The Patriarchy came out to confront the winners. The Bang Bang Gang arrived and set up some tables before House of Black showed up to end the show.

Result: Pac and BCC defeated Rush and Top Flight

Grade: B+

Notable Moments and Observations

  • The pop for Pac was wild. He got the biggest reaction of the night.
  • Nigel McGuinness referenced why Pac and BCC teaming up was surprising, but a few more seconds of details would have gone a long way for any fans who are new.
  • Rush trying to Swing Claudio was kind of funny.
  • The way Dante can leap into the air will never stop being impressive.

The Final Word

Collision.
Collision.

This week's Collision didn't exactly feel like a go-home show before a big PPV, but that is not a bad thing. Go-home shows can often be heavy with promos and video packages, but this episode had just as much action as any other episode of Collision.

In fact, this was an above-average episode thanks to a red-hot Welsh crowd that made a handful of matches infinitely more entertaining with its energy and enthusiasm.

As far as the matches are concerned, the main event trios bout was easily the best bell-to-bell performance of the night, but Bill vs. Hook and Double J vs. Lethal are worth watching for the crowd reactions alone.

All In is shaping up to be another massive event for AEW, but the bigger the show, the bigger the pressure. It's going to be interesting to see what happens on Sunday.
