The drought is finally over.

For the first time since 2009, an American man has broken through to a Grand Slam final.

On Friday, Taylor Fritz defeated American compatriot France Tiafoe in five sets, reaching the U.S. Open final.

On Sunday, the 26-year-old will face No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner, who earlier Friday defeated Jack Draper to become the first Italian man to reach a U.S. Open final.

Here are the top reactions from Friday's semifinal matches.

Jannik Sinner's dominance continued in the semifinal round with a straight-set win against Jack Draper.

Although Draper had not dropped a set en route to the semifinal, Sinner's physicality and endless aggression were just too much for the Brit.

The pair's second set, which lasted 86 minutes—the second longest set in the entire tournament—best demonstrated this.

The Italian tested Draper, one of the best servers of late, at every turn.

In the second set, the No. 25 seed hit 59 serves compared to Sinner's 45 and faced a break-point in his first three serve games.

Sinner, who hit 43 total winners and continued to serve dominantly, has won 34 of 36 matches on the hard-court surface this year and will enter the final as the overwhelming favorite.

Taylor Fritz Ends American Drought

Despite trailing two sets to one, Taylor Fritz rallied against all odds to defeat Frances Tiafoe, reaching his first career major final.

Fritz found himself struggling early, unable to compete with Tiafoe's energy and firepower, but as the match progressed, Tiafoe's serve became less effective.

After winning at least 80 percent of points across the first four sets on first serve, Tiafoe won just four of nine service points in the final set on first serve.

Fritz has now won seven of eight matches against his longtime friend and, on Sunday, will face Jannik Sinner in the final.

The American will likely start as the underdog, but given how he performed on Friday and the crowd support he is likely to get, he should not be counted out.
