Top Trade Packages for Myles Garrett After Browns Star Requests Move

Myles Garrett rocked the NFL world by officially requesting a trade from the Cleveland Browns on Monday, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The Browns lack a capable quarterback and are hindered by a lack of draft capital and salary-cap space. They could at least expedite their much-needed rebuild by dealing Garrett for a package of premium picks and/or players.

Every team in the league should have at least some interest in the generational edge-rusher, but only a handful of Super Bowl hopefuls may have a realistic chance to land Garrett.

It's unclear what the Browns will want in return for their star pass-rusher. The cost may not be too prohibitive, as one general manager told Dianna Russini of The Athletic that he might cost only one first-round pick along with some additional Day 2 selections.

With that in mind, let's highlight five potential trade packages that could convince Cleveland to move on from Garrett.

Chicago Bears

Cleveland Browns receive: 2025 first-round pick (No. 10 overall), 2025 second-round pick (No. 41), 2025 fifth-round pick (No. 149), CB Kyler Gordon

Chicago Bears receive: Edge Myles Garrett

The Chicago Bears are quite familiar with the process of dealing for an elite edge-rusher in his prime. ESPN's Adam Schefter called the club's blockbuster acquisition of Khalil Mack ahead of the 2018 campaign a potential trade comp for Garrett.

While the Bears might not be willing to give up as much capital as the two first-rounders, third-rounder and sixth-rounder they exchanged for the 27-year-old Mack (plus a second-round pick and a conditional fifth-rounder), they shouldn't hesitate to offer a package for Garrett headlined by the No. 10 overall pick.

Adding Garrett into the mix would supercharge a Chicago defense that struggled in 2024. The Bears allowed the sixth-most yards per game in the league and recorded only 40 sacks and 11 interceptions on the year.

Chicago already employs one of the NFL's better edge defenders in Montez Sweat, but the 28-year-old took a step back and recorded only 5.5 sacks during his first full season in the Windy City. Pairing him with Garrett would create a devastating duo that would terrorize opposing quarterbacks.

It may take one of Chicago's two second-rounders and either a third-round pick or a starting-caliber talent like cornerback Kyler Gordon to sweeten the pot. That would be worthwhile for a Bears team that needs a boost to compete in the rugged NFC North.

With new head coach Ben Johnson on the sidelines, second-year quarterback Caleb Williams under center and a bona fide star like Garrett on the edge, Chicago would have a core in place to contend for years to come.

Green Bay Packers

Green Bay Packers receive: Edge Myles Garrett

The Green Bay Packers have been a fringe contender following Jordan Love's emergence as a franchise quarterback, but they still sorely lack an alpha to lead their defense. They're coming off a disappointing Wild Card Round exit and need to make a splash move this offseason to improve their Super Bowl chances.

No acquisition would move the needle more than winning the Garrett sweepstakes. He would be the biggest defensive acquisition in Titletown since the Packers landed Reggie White back in 1993.

Like White, Garrett is a generational defensive lineman who has spent the first eight seasons of his career on a club that managed to win only one playoff game during his tenure. It remains to be seen if Garrett will finally get over the hump the way White did after he signed with the Packers.

Garrett would make Green Bay's defense a force to be reckoned with in 2025 and beyond. The Packers already finished eighth in sacks (45) this past season, sixth in scoring defense and fifth in total defense. Adding Garrett—who's had double-digit sacks in each of the past seven years—would push this unit into the upper echelon, especially if up-and-comers like Kingsley Enagbare and Devonte Wyatt continue their impressive trajectories.

While the Packers might have to mortgage their future to facilitate this trade, it's rare for a player of Garrett's caliber to become available. Green Bay would be foolish not to try to capitalize on the situation.

Kansas City Chiefs

Cleveland Browns receive: 2025 first-round pick (No. 31 or 32 overall), 2025 second-round pick (No. 63 or 64), 2025 fourth-round pick (No. 132 or 133), Edge Mike Danna

Kansas City Chiefs receive: Edge Myles Garrett

If Myles Garrett wants to ensure "Super Bowl winner" is on his resume when he's eventually enshrined in Canton, there's no better place to accomplish that than Kansas City.

The Chiefs have morphed into a juggernaut under Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid, winning three of the last five Lombardi Trophies while making seven consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances and counting. Kansas City already has a real shot to become the first team in NFL history to three-peat, and it could push that streak even further if it somehow lands Garrett this offseason.

While Kansas City's front office has performed plenty of cap wizardry over the past few years, it could be tough for them to figure out how to squeeze Garrett's cap hit on the books. Doing so while keeping enough cap space available to construct a championship-caliber roster around a Mahomes-Garrett core would be a massive feather in the cap of general manager Brett Veach.

Working in the Chiefs' favor is Garrett's openly stated desire "to win and compete on the biggest stages." The edge-rusher has already acquired generational wealth during his first eight seasons in the league and might be willing to take less than his market value on his next contract in exchange for the best possible path to winning a title.

The rest of the league may not be happy about it, and that might not do many favors for Garrett's reputation. Such a move would remind many NBA fans of Kevin Durant's decision to join the perennial powerhouse Golden State Warriors back in 2016. But the Chiefs shouldn't hesitate to kick Cleveland its Day 1 and 2 picks plus a serviceable edge replacement like Mike Danna to continue their unprecedented run of success.

New England Patriots receive: Edge Myles Garrett

The New England Patriots have a chance to follow in the footsteps of teams like the Washington Commanders, Houston Texans and Cincinnati Bengals by going from the league's basement to the playoffs within the span of a year. After parting ways with beleaguered head coach Jerod Mayo and bringing in Mike Vrabel to take the reins ahead of Year 2 of the Drake Maye era, the stage is set for an immediate turnaround.

While the Patriots have plenty of holes across the lineup to fill this offseason, their defense could be instantly overhauled with the addition of Garrett. They need that sort of boost after ranking 22nd in both total and scoring defense this past season.

New England recording only seven interceptions this year, tied for the fourth-fewest in the NFL. The most concerning issue was the Pats' complete inability to pressure opposing quarterbacks, as evidenced by their league-worst 28 sacks.

Following the departures of reliable edge-rushers like Matthew Judon (dealt to the Atlanta Falcons before the season kicked off) and Josh Uche (traded to the Kansas City Chiefs at the deadline), no Patriot defender finished 2024 with more than five sacks. Only two players (Keion White and Deatrich Wise Jr.) tallied more than 2.5 sacks on the year. The team needs to bring in an elite edge-rusher to fix this glaring problem and get back into contention.

While the Patriots may not be the perennial contender that Garrett is hoping to wind up with, the team does have hope for the future with promising building blocks like Maye under center and Christian Gonzalez in the secondary. There's also some coaching connections to the Browns star as well, as Vrabel spent last season working as a consultant in Cleveland.

New England has the most available cap space in the league right now, which it could use to reward Garrett with a record-setting contract after his current five-year, $125 million extension expires in 2027. The team also possesses some immensely valuable draft capital—headlined by the No. 4 overall pick—and an intriguing quarterback prospect in Joe Milton III that it could use to convince Cleveland to make this move.

Cleveland Browns receive: 2025 first-round pick (No. 29 overall), 2025 second-round pick (No. 61), 2025 third-round pick (No. 79), 2025 fifth-round pick (No. 148)

Washington Commanders receive: Edge Myles Garrett

The Washington Commanders' impressive turnaround was one of the best storylines of the 2024 season. However, their Cinderella tale came to a disappointing finish in the NFC Championship Game at the hands of the rival Philadelphia Eagles.

To break through and reach the Super Bowl next year, the Commanders will need to spend the offseason shoring up weak points and bringing in top-tier talent. Washington's brass won't find a bigger game-changer than Garrett, a six-time Pro Bowler who has amassed a whopping 102.5 sacks since entering the league in 2017.

Garrett would provide an immediate boost to a unit that recorded an unremarkable 43 sacks and finished 13th in total defense and 18th in scoring defense during head coach Dan Quinn's first season.

While Garrett won't come cheap, the new ownership group led by Josh Harris has shown it is more than willing to make bold moves to provide the long-starved D.C.-area fanbase with a winning product. The team also has its quarterback woes seemingly solved after hitting a home run on Jayden Daniels, which makes it far more palatable to give up early picks in exchange for proven assets.

Should Washington be willing to dish out a handful of Day 1 and 2 picks—including the Nos. 29 and 61 selections—this deal could get done quickly.
