Connor McDavid Returns for Oilers in Tough Western Conference Playoff Hunt

The best player in the world returned to the ice for Edmonton Wednesday night, tallying three assists, the last of which was to Connor Brown, who scored the game-winner against St. Louis with 21 seconds left in regulation.
It was a triumphant comeback for McDavid, who missed eight games due to a lower body injury. It was also a historic one as the captain became the seventh player in NHL history with at least five 65-save seasons, joining Wayne Gretzky, Peter Statsny, Guy LeFleur, Bobby Orr, Adam Oates, and Phil Esposito, per NHL.com.
The victory gave Edmonton a two-point lead over St. Louis and Minnesota for the sixth seed in the Western Conference playoff picture, one that is still very undecided as the regular season winds down.
Whereas the Eastern Conference has just one spot unclaimed, the West as three open spots and six teams battling for them.
Edmonton has the upper-hand with the points lead and with two of their last four against the hapless San Jose Sharks, there is plenty of reason to believe the Oilers can lock up that spot, even with the other two games against playoff teams in Winnipeg and Los Angeles.
Minnesota, an 8-7 winner against the aforementioned Sharks on Wednesday, has two of three games against teams fighting for a playoff spot in Calgary and Vancouver, while St. Louis has winnable games against Utah and Seattle.
Still, despite Minnesota's tough final slate, and a St. Louis team that has lost their last two after winning eight straight, they have the look of teams that will join Edmonton in completing the Western Conference picture.
