College Football Rankings: Who Is Overrated in Week 5 Coaches and AP Polls?
College Football Rankings: Who Is Overrated in Week 5 Coaches and AP Polls?

It's Sunday again and with that means new rankings.
With the coaches and the AP punching in their votes, there's no doubt Alabama is still the best team in the nation.
But what are some of the surprises? As always, a few teams look as though they're getting way too much love.
Here 10 football teams that are overrated in this week's polls.
10. Nevada Wolf Pack

The Wolf Pack found themselves ranked number 25 after a 4-0 record on both the Week 4 coaches' and AP polls.
After a win against the Mountain West's UNLV Running Rebels, 44-26, the Wolf Pack rose up four spots on the AP poll to no. 21.
Their big jump up the AP poll is somewhat questionable since they also overtook a 4-0 team in Oklahoma State, who just defeated a very good Big 12 Texas A&M team, who previously had a perfect record.
Perhaps the media are just setting Nevada up for a big fall later when they face Boise State on November 26.
9. Northwestern Wildcats

The Wildcats are surging with a 5-0 record and have now broken in the top-25 rankings in the coaches' poll.
But their wins haven't exactly come in a convincing fashion. They defeated a bottom-dwelling SEC team in Vanderbilt to open the season 23-21 and they beat the MAC's Central Michigan by a mere 5 points, 35-30.
Then this weekend, in a match which they were favored to win, they disposed of a Golden Gophers team that only had one win in the season by merely 1 point, 29-28.
With a prolific passer in quarterback Dan Persa, Northwestern is certainly getting a lot of love and attention.
This Big Ten team, however, has yet to take down a tough opponent. Which effectively makes their top-25 ranking overrated.
8. Miami Hurricanes

Next to Arkansas, this Miami team is the second-highest ranked team with one loss this season on the AP's top-25 polls.
The Hurricanes sit at number 13 on the AP polls. If that sounds familiar that's exactly where they were ranked to start the season.
Miami is sitting on a 3-1 record and fresh off a close-win against unranked Clemson.
Being overrated is the only good reason to explain how they've returned to their original no. 13 spot on the AP poll, even just a few weeks after a loss against Ohio State.
At least the coaches' had enough sense to rank them at 14, after starting at 13 during the preseason.
7. Michigan Wolverines

The Michigan Denard Robinsons are getting a lot of hype as the result of one man's performances.
In their first Big Ten game of the season, the Wolverines were fortunate enough to escape their game against Indiana with a win, after a last second Denard Robinson touchdown run.
That was definitely an exciting play but the team has been playing with fire all season. During Week 2, they were lucky enough to win against Notre Dame with another similar run from Robinson.
They jumped from no. 19 to no. 17 on the coaches' poll. But the big surprise here is that they're now ranked higher than a Stanford team who has looked a lot better in their wins all season.
6. Florida State Seminoles

They were ranked as high as no. 18 on the Week 1 coaches' poll, after a 4 week absence the Seminoles are back and now ranked at no. 24.
Their four wins have been won by a large margin, however, they were demolished by an Oklahoma team that has had difficulties winning over their other opponents all season.
Oklahoma has been the only top-ranked team that the Seminoles have played all year and they were defeated easily, 47-17.
So how exactly have they earned their way back to Top 25 so quickly?
5. Arizona Wildcats

The Arizona Wildcats have shown that they are very good team.
With their big win against the Iowa Hawkeyes, they showed that they're capable of knocking out a tough Big Ten powerhouse.
They started Week 4 ranked no. 14 on the AP polls and on this week's polls are now at no. 9.
After having an off week, the Wildcats didn't have to do anything this weekend to crack the Top 10.
That's a lot of love that they're getting, when LSU (5-0) played earned another SEC win this weekend and still got overtaken by the Wildcats.
4. Arkansas Razorbacks

The Hogs rose from number 15 to number 11 on the AP poll after an off week.
This just two weeks after falling to number one team, Alabama.
On the Week 3 AP poll, Arkansas was at number 10.
Being just one spot off of their season-high 10 week ranking without even playing a game since losing their first game of the season, just seems too unrealistic.
The AP, at no. 11, has them there way too high.
3. Oklahoma Sooners

Just like what they've doing all season long, the Sooners played another close-game on Saturday. This time against arch-rival and Big 12 nemesis, the Texas Longhorns, 28-20.
They have worked hard to earn their 5-0 record but the AP now has them at no. 6, after being ranked no. 8 last week.
Nebraska didn't get a chance to play this week, with a week off. But they have been more consistently dominant in their wins all season and they don't deserve to be surpassed by Oklahoma in the AP's rankings.
The 'Huskers were able to easily beat a good Washington Huskies team led by Jake Locker, during Week 3 and that Huskies squad went on to take down Pac-10 powerhouse USC this weekend.
2. Florida Gators

The Gators were embarrassed by the Crimson Tide this weekend 31-6.
It's obvious that they're not the same team that flirted with a perfect season a year go.
They made several costly blunders (4 turnovers) that did not make them look like a top SEC team. But the coaches are still giving them votes.
Now ranked number 12 on the Week 5 coaches' poll, Florida only dropped 5 spots on the rankings.
And they stand as the highest ranked team with one loss on their poll.
1. Oregon Ducks

Two games in a row, the Ducks have flirted with possible disaster with extremely close scores during halftime.
Stanford actually had the lead at halftime, while ASU played them close throughout the game last weekend.
But both media and coaches' polls still saw it fit that the Ducks be ranked the third best team in the nation.
It wasn't as though the Broncos weren't doing anything this weekend, they were winning in style against New Mexico State, 59-0.
