Please, No More Manny Pacquiao: Four Other Big Fights to Look Forward to

It seems that until Manny Pacquiao fights Antonio Margarito, they will be getting almost all of the mainstream media attention. I am personally a bit tired of hearing about Pacquiao so much.

  You might not know it, but there are a lot of other great fights that have been signed to look forward to. So here is something other than Pacquiao for you to read about.

The first big fight that I would like to talk about is a featherweight contest between the undefeated Juan Manuel Lopez and Rafael Marquez. The fight will take place on November 6^th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and will be aired on Showtime.

                Juan Manuel Lopez is coming off of a thrilling second round knockout of Bernabe Conception, while Marquez is coming off of a knockout win of Israel Vazquez in their fourth fight.

                This fight should be action packed, and I would be very surprised to see it going to a decision. I personally love watching both of these guys fight and expect fireworks from the opening bell. I think Lopez will end up winning this fight by KO, but I think Marquez will be able to hang longer than most of Juanmas previous opponents.

               I’m very excited to see the rematch of what is dubbed by most, this year’s best fight. Their last encounter saw Paul Williams win a highly controversial majority decision. This fight will be taking place on November 2oth at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City and will be televised on HBO.

                After their last fight Paul Williams took on Kermit Cintron and won another controversial decision. In the fourth round the boxers got tangled up and Cintron fell out of the ring. On the fall he hit his head on a monitor at the side of the ring and was carried out of the ring on a stretcher. Williams didn’t look good in the first 3 rounds, fighting more conservative than he is accustomed to, but did enough to get the decision.

                Sergio Martinez is coming off of a unanimous decision victory over Kelly Pavlik in which he looked good. He was very elusive at times, and at one point Pavlik told his corner “I can’t hit him”.

                This fight is destined to be another classic. Paul Williams is very entertaining and throws over 100 punches almost every round. Sergio Martinez is a very skilled counterpuncher and often fights with his hands at his side. Each fighter is very marketable and they have very interesting contrasting styles. This fight will be filled with action and will be a very entertaining contest.

                Amir Khan is taking a step up in competition taking a risky fight against Argentinean power puncher Marcos Maidana. This fight has been talked about for a long time, and we finally get to see it. The fight will be at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on December 11^th. You will be able to watch it on HBO.

                Amir Khan is coming off of an impressive win over Paulie Malignaggi in which he out boxed him every round. Khan’s jab was very quick and landed with a high percentage throughout the fight. In Maidana’s last fight he outpointed veteran DeMarcus Corley.

                The big question in this fight is whether or not Khan will be able to handle the punching power of Maidana. Two years ago Khan was knocked out by Breidis Prescott in the first round of their fight. Some have said that he has a soft chin which is what will make this fight interesting.

                This will be an entertaining fight as both fighters bring exciting styles to the fight. Khan has tremendous hand speed as well as punching accuracy. Maidana throws huge punches and has the ability to knock opponents out in a split second. Dont blink watching this one.

                The top two 140 pounders in the world have finally signed to fight each other. This should be a high energy fight as these are two of the most athletic fighters in any weight class. The fight will be taking place on January 29^th and will be aired on HBO. The location of the fight has yet to be named.

                Devon Alexander is coming off of a decision victory over Olympic medalist Andriy Kotelnik in which he looked frustrated at times, but did enough to win the fight. Tim Bradley is coming of a Welterweight contest against previously unbeaten Luis Carlos Abregu. He dominated the fight, and proved that he was simply too good for the hard hitting Argentinean.

                I expect this to be a very good fight, and it’s nice to see a fight where we don’t have a good idea who’s going to win. Bradley is ranked by many as the top man at 140, but Alexander isn’t too far behind him. Both fighters hit hard enough to knock the other one out, so this should make for a good fight. Both men have great footwork, hand speed and combination punching. This fight promises to be entertaining, and it’s always great to see the top two guys in a division square off.

                It is expected by many that the winner of this fight will challenge the winner of Khan vs. Maidana. The Light Welterweight division is heating up, and becoming one of the most entertaining in boxing. This is a huge fight and it promises not to disappoint.
