Deion Sanders' 'Coach Prime' Trailer, Release Date Drops for Season 3 on Prime Video

Dec 30, 2024

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders led the team to a successful 2024 season that included its first bowl game appearance in four years, and fans are set to get a deeper look at the Buffaloes' impressive campaign.

Amazon's Prime Video announced that season three of Coach Prime will premiere on Jan. 7 and released the trailer for the show on Monday:

The trailer for the third season of Coach Prime highlighted the evolution of the Colorado football program in just two years under Sanders. He took over a team that went 1-11 the year before he arrived.

In 2024, the Buffaloes finished the year with a 9-4 record after suffering a 36-14 loss to BYU in the Valero Alamo Bowl, their first bowl game since 2020. Still, Colorado's upward trajectory has reignited the fan interest in the team and created a bright future for the program.

Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter's Heisman Trophy campaign will also be documented in the upcoming season of Coach Prime. Hunter established himself as the biggest star in the sport by excelling both as a wide receiver and cornerback, bringing even more national attention to Colorado.

Most importantly, the 2024 season was the last time Sanders got to coach his sons, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and defensive back Shilo Sanders. Both players are headed for the 2025 NFL draft, and their final year together will be the central theme of the show's upcoming season.

Coach Prime first premiered in December 2022 and followed Sanders' final season as head coach of Jackson State. The second season premiered the following year and documented the highs and lows of Colorado's 2023 campaign in which the team started with three straight wins before finishing with a 4-8 record.

Deion Sanders: 'Tough to Know' I've Coached Shedeur, Shilo for Final Time at Colorado

It was more than the loss that was weighing on Colorado head coach Deion Sanders following the Buffaloes' 36-14 defeat to BYU in the Alamo Bowl.

Sanders said in his postgame press conference it was "tough to know" this is likely to be the last time he coaches sons Shedeur and Shilo on the gridiron.

In the locker room after the game, Sanders told his players not to be "angry" about the outcome but use the Alamo Bowl as a learning experience instead:

Before the game kicked off, the significance of the occasion wasn't lost on Sanders. He was visibly emotional in an on-field interview with ESPN's Taylor McGregor when thinking about the "journey" he has taken with Shedeur and Shilo:

The Hall of Fame cornerback's comments and his heartfelt reaction to coaching his sons' last college game are notable within a different context.

Throughout the season, people have floated the idea that Deion and Shedeur could in effect be a package deal for an NFL team. A franchise with a high draft pick could hire Deion and then tab Shedeur as its quarterback of the future.

Sanders has maintained his long-term commitment to Colorado, saying in November he's "got a kickstand down" in Boulder.

ESPN's Adam Rittenberg also cited a source at Colorado who said in December that Coach Prime is "acting as if he's back."

"I think he's all-in," the source said. "Normally, you can tell when guys are fed up and they're trying to leave and they're unhappy. They're probably going to pay him a lot of money, extend his contract, keep him happy."

Still, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN followed up to report there's a belief that NFL teams might be willing to at least reach out to Sanders as a prospective candidate.

On Saturday at least, the 57-year-old didn't sound like somebody who's expecting to work in the pros, where the opportunity to coach Shedeur and/or Shilo would again present itself.

Deion Sanders: 'Don't Know How I'm Gonna Handle' Last Game Coaching Shedeur, Shilo

Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders will coach his sons, quarterback Shedeur and safety Shilo, as well as Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter for the final time on Saturday when his team plays No. 17 BYU in the Alamo Bowl.

It will obviously be an emotional evening for Sanders in San Antonio, and the Pro Football Hall of Famer understandably isn't sure how he'll handle it just yet.

"It's gonna be something to behold," Sanders said, per Brent Schrotenboer of USA Today.

"I don't know how I'm gonna handle it. I know Travis is gonna trigger me. I know it because he always does, and he's gonna bring tears out of my eyes. But I don't look forward to it. But I do, because that means they're going to another level, another chapter of life. And they're gonna soar."

The quartet has been together for four years, first at Jackson State (2021-2022) before heading to Colorado last season. The Buffaloes were 1-11 in 2022 but has since improved to 9-3 in 2024 with a No. 20 ranking in the Associated Press poll. A win over BYU will certainly cement a Top 20 finish, putting the exclamation point on a tremendous program comeback.

Sanders definitively said on the Pacman Jones Show that he's staying at Colorado despite speculation connecting him to the NFL or other college programs.

But Shedeur and Shilo Sanders and Hunter are now headed to the pros. In fact, it's certainly possible that Shedeur Sanders and Hunter end up going one-two (in some order) in the NFL draft, or at least very high up.

For now, though, they'll all finish out the season in Texas. Kickoff on Saturday is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Deion Sanders Supports Travis Hunter in Colorado Practice Video: 'You Are Him'

Colorado two-way phenom Travis Hunter received a vote of confidence from head coach Deion Sanders ahead of Saturday's Valero Alamo Bowl against BYU.

During a recent practice, Sanders called Hunter to the middle of the huddle to remind him who he is and how much he means to the Buffaloes.

"I want you to know this in front of everybody: you know we love you, we got you, we appreciate you. You are him," Sanders said.

Hunter has dealt with a wave of chatter on social media about his personal life after he won the 2024 Heisman Trophy earlier this month. However, Saturday's game will be the last of his college career before he enters the 2025 NFL draft, so he will be motivated to end things on a good note.

While splitting time between receiver and cornerback, Hunter led Colorado with 92 catches, 1,152 yards, 14 touchdowns, 11 passes defended and four interceptions. He also had 31 total tackles and a forced fumble on defense and a rushing touchdown on offense.

Hunter is the No. 1 player on B/R's NFL draft big board. He has a bright future at the next level, but for now, he's focused on finishing off the 2024 season the right way in the Alamo Bowl.

Deion Sanders, Colorado Land USF Safety Tawfiq Byard in Transfer Portal Amid LSU Buzz

Former USF safety Tawfiq Byard committed to Colorado on Tuesday, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.com.

Byard is coming off a breakout sophomore season with the Bulls and still has three years of eligibility remaining.

He previously visited Colorado and met with head coach Deion Sanders on Friday, per SI.com's Zack Nagy. Byard also visited Virginia Tech, LSU and Vanderbilt before making his commitment decision.

He confirmed the transfer decision in a post on X.

Byard revealed that the Buffaloes' coaching staff, including defensive coordinator Rob Livingston, influenced his final choice.

"The defensive coordinator Rob Livingston we speak the same language," Byard said, via Steve Wiltfong of On3.com. "He's an NFL guy who coached a lot of good safeties. Also the staff Coach Prime hired. They make you feel welcomed and loved. To the academic people to Coach Prime himself everyone was welcoming!"

In 12 appearances with USF during the 2024 season, he racked up 54 tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks and one interception.

He's also the brother of Chicago Bears safety Kevin Byard.

The younger Byard should immediately contribute to a Buffaloes secondary that exceeded expectations in 2024 despite dealing with some inconsistency down the stretch of the season. Colorado finished with the sixth-best pass defense in the Big 12.

While Sanders' program hasn't been as active in the transfer portal compared to the end of his first season in Boulder, the Buffaloes' 2025 transfer class still ranks No. 14 in the country (via 247Sports).

Byard, Carter Stoutmire and Savion Riley are expected to compete for Colorado's starting safety positions next season.

Deion Sanders: Shedeur, Travis Hunter, Colorado Get Injury Insurance for Alamo Bowl

Star players opting out of non-playoff games has become a regular occurrence in college football, but Colorado stars such as Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter will be suiting up for Saturday's Alamo Bowl against BYU.

Head coach Deion Sanders spoke to reporters about the situation Monday and explained players such as his son and Hunter will receive injury insurance for the game:

The decisions from Hunter and Sanders to play in the game stand out in particular, as they could be the top-two picks in the 2025 NFL draft. Tankathon projected just that to happen in its latest mock draft with Sanders going No. 1 overall to the New York Giants and Hunter going No. 2 overall to the New England Patriots.

B/R's NFL Scouting Department ranked Hunter as the top prospect and Sanders as the ninth-best prospect in its latest big board released last month.

Colorado will take the field Saturday after a nearly monthlong break between games. The Buffs closed out the regular season on Nov. 29 with a 52-0 shutout of Oklahoma State, which improved their record to 9-3.

It was quite the turnaround from last year's 4-8 campaign, and Colorado will look to close out the season on a high note with its star players taking the field against BYU.

Deion Sanders Honors MLB Legend Rickey Henderson in IG Photo: 'My Baseball Hero'

Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders paid his respects to Rickey Henderson on Sunday after the MLB legend died on Saturday at the age of 65, calling Henderson his "baseball hero."

Sanders was a two-sport athlete during his playing days and spent nine seasons in Major League Baseball, accumulating 186 stolen bases in his career, including 56 in the 1997 season.

Had Sanders played baseball full time, he probably would have been far higher on the all-time steals list, given his elite quickness and speed.

He wouldn't have gotten close to Henderson, however, because nobody in MLB history came close to the former MVP and 10-time All-Star. Henderson's 1,406 stolen bases is the most in MLB history and a whopping 468 more than the No. 2 player on the list, Lou Brock.

Sanders also wasn't the hitter that Henderson was, with a career .263 batting average and .319 on-base percentage, compared to Henderson's .279 career batting average and .401 on-base percentage. Henderson was the game's greatest base-stealer because he was arguably the best lead-off hitter in the history of the sport, giving him plenty of chances to swipe bags.

One of Henderson's most legendary games was one where he didn't get a single hit, instead walking four times, stealing five bases and scoring four runs during a 1989 contest. Walking Henderson was basically the same as giving up a double, and one of the reasons why he was revered by both his peers and the players who followed.

Former Colorado linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green committed to Alabama on Saturday, according to CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz.

Hill-Green initially entered the transfer portal on Monday. He'll have one year of eligibility remaining with the Crimson Tide.

He started his college career with Michigan in 2020, transferring to Charlotte ahead of the 2023 season and staying with the team for one year before joining head coach Deion Sanders' program prior to the Buffaloes' 2024 campaign.

His latest move doesn't come as a large shock, with Pete Nakos of On3.com reporting on Tuesday that the linebacker was set to visit Alabama.

Hill-Green was also high school teammates with Crimson Tide defensive backs Keon Sabb and Kameron Howard, acknowledging that he's kept up with them throughout the year.

"We always talk," Hill-Green said, via 247Sports' Brett Greenberg. "I've been checking on them all season."

He served as a key piece of the Buffaloes' defensive turnaround in 2024, earning All-Big 12 Second Team recognition. Hill-Green finished with 82 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, four passes defensed, two sacks and two interceptions.

The Buffaloes' linebackers will look vastly different in 2025, as Trevor Woods also made the decision to enter the portal on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Hill-Green should immediately provide a boost to Alabama's defense next season. Head coach Kalen DeBoer's program ranks No. 14 in the country in the latest transfer class rankings from 247Sports.

Hill-Green becomes the latest defensive addition to a transfer class that also includes former Florida defensive lineman Kelby Collins as well as former Utah cornerback Cameron Calhoun.

Deion Sanders: I Haven't Spoken to Any NFL Teams About a Package Deal with Shedeur

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders confirmed that he hasn't spoken to any NFL teams about potentially joining the same organization as his son, Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

"I have not spoken to anyone about a package deal or anyone about a deal, period," Deion said during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show (3:00 mark).

Shedeur looked impressive throughout his second year in Boulder and is expected to hear his name called during the 2025 NFL draft. He was chosen with the No. 2 overall pick in the latest mock draft of the top 10 selections from Bleacher Report's Brent Sobleski.

ESPN's Adam Schefter previously revealed that the possibility of the father-son duo teaming up once again in the NFL is an "option."

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler also reported that it wouldn't be a surprise if an NFL team looking for a new head coach reached out to Coach Prime to fill the vacancy.

He appears to be focused on staying with the Buffaloes, though.

"I have one of the best, if not the best, AD in the country in Rick George and I'm confident that we're going to get something done to keep me here so that we can bring this wonderful city a national championship," Deion said on Friday (3:15 mark).

As the 57-year-old attempts to help the Buffaloes reach 10 wins for the first time since 2016, he doesn't appear to be considering following his son to the NFL at the moment.
