Philadelphia Phillies stars Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber were placed on the 10-day injured list, but both have avoided serious ailments, per Matt Gelb of The Athletic.

Harper suffered a low-grade hamstring strain. He can return as soon as July 9.

However, Gelb noted the team could opt to sit Harper for the rest of the season's first half to give him more rest time with the All-Star break occurring from July 15-18.

That would mean sitting the team's home series against the Los Angeles Dodgers (July 9-11) and Oakland Athletics (July 12-14).

Schwarber has a mild groin strain, but he may only spend the minimum 10 days on the IL, per Gelb.

Kody Clemens and Johan Rojas were recalled as Harper and Schwarber's replacements on the roster.

Harper suffered his hamstring injury while trying to run to first base on a groundball that ended up being the final out of the Phillies' 7-4 loss to the Miami Marlins on Thursday.

He's had a sensational season for the 53-28 Phillies, who sport the MLB's top record. For the year, Harper has hit .303 with 20 home runs and 58 RBI.

Schwarber suffered the groin injury while making a throw from the outfield in the ninth inning.

"I reached down to grab the ball barehanded and kind of planted for the throw and felt it grab," Schwarber said, per Anthony SanFilippo of the Associated Press. "I thought it was just a cramp at first and I finished the inning. But, as I was running in (between innings) I could still kind of feel it, so I talked to the trainer and he didn't like where the spot was … so he wanted to get me out of there."

Schwarber, who usually plays as the team's designated hitter, has 17 home runs, 49 RBI and an .820 OPS.

So the Phillies are going to have to be without their best hitter in Harper and one of their top power threats in Schwarber for a bit. Here's what the lineup looks like Friday against the Marlins with both of them out.

Harper and Schwarber will miss the team's next three home games against Miami before sitting a six-game road trip against the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves.

Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper suffered a hamstring injury during the team's 7-4 loss to the Miami Marlins on Thursday night.

Harper grabbed at his left hamstring after making the final out of the game and told reporters that he would undergo imaging on Friday.

"I felt my lower hammy, just a little bit," he said, per ESPN. "We're going to get an image tomorrow and see what that looks like. See how I feel tomorrow and go from there."

Harper went 1-5 with a run-scoring double in the first inning against Miami.

When asked about his concern level regarding the injury, the 31-year-old didn't have a specific answer.

"I don't know," Harper said (via ESPN). "Like I said, I never felt anything like this before. It hurts."

If he's forced to miss an extended period of time, it'll be a huge blow to a Phillies team that still owns the best record in the National League despite their defeat on Thursday. Harper's individual production has helped Philadelphia get off to its hot start, as he's in the midst of another impressive year at the plate.

In 76 games to begin the 2024 season, the former Rookie of the Year is hitting .303 with 20 home runs and 58 RBIs. He's already racked up 20 doubles, while his .981 OPS is the highest mark since his last MVP-winning campaign in 2021.

Earlier on Thursday, Harper earned his eighth All-Star selection and clinched a starting spot at first base after receiving more votes than any other NL player.

Philadelphia's lineup experienced multiple injuries on Thursday night, as designated hitter Kyle Schwarber left in the ninth inning due to groin tightness. After the game, Phillies manager Rob Thomson told the media that he wouldn't have an update on Schwarber until Friday (h/t Paul Casella of MLB.com).

Thomson's team fell to 53-28 following the loss.

The Philadelphia Phillies have locked in southpaw Cristopher Sánchez through his arbitration years.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post first reported that the team had agreed to a four-year contract extension with Sánchez. This will keep him in Philadelphia through 2028, and it also includes club options for 2029 and 2030.

The financial details of the extension were not disclosed. He is currently playing on a one-year, $753,500 contract.

Sánchez is 4-3 with a 2.91 ERA across 14 starts in 2024, allowing only a single home run while delivering a 59.4 percent ground-ball rate. He owns a career record of 10-10 and a 3.73 ERA in 55 games.

The 27-year-old has fit into the Phillies rotation nicely behind Zach Wheeler, Aaron Nola and Ranger Suarez. The entire pitching staff has earned a 3.15 ERA, which leads MLB.

Philadelphia is currently 49-26 and leads the National League.

Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto was placed on the injured list Tuesday with right knee pain and will undergo surgery on Wednesday.

Phillies president Dave Dombrowski told NBC Sports Philadelphia that Realmuto is expected to miss "about a month" after undergoing surgery.

The 33-year-old has been fairly durable throughout his career, appearing in at least 125 games in every season bar the shortened 2020 one since the 2015 campaign. He played 135 games in 2023.

When healthy, Realmuto is one of the best overall catchers in the league.

His resume includes three All-Star selections, three Silver Sluggers and two Gold Gloves. He is slashing .261/.309/.411 with seven home runs and 20 RBI in 51 games this season to help the Phillies to a 45-20 record, which is the best record in the National League.

While Philadelphia will miss Realmuto's presence in the lineup, Garrett Stubbs has the tools to fill in capably behind the plate in his absence.

Rob McElhenney's character in the sitcom It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Mac, always wanted to have a catch with Philadelphia Phillies legend Chase Utley.

On Sunday, McElhenney got to turn a ceremony double play with both Utley and current Philly superstar Bryce Harper during the team's matchup against the New York Mets in London.

McElhenney, members of Wrexham—the soccer club he co-owns with fellow actor Ryan Reynolds—former players on the 2008 championship Phillies, his wife, Kaitlin Olson, the Phillie Phanatic and Mr. and Mrs. Met also sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" before Sunday's matchup.

Call this one "The Gang Goes to London." For fans of both the Phillies and It's Always Sunny, this pregame ceremony was a real home run.

As one of the great pandering kings of this generation, Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper broke out a soccer celebration for the crowd at London Stadium after hitting a homer against the New York Mets.

Harper crushed a hanging sweeper from Mets starter Sean Manaea in the top of the fourth inning, then proceeded to hit the knee-slide celebration when he got to the warning track dirt in front of the Phillies' dugout.

"I didn't tell any of my teammates because I wanted them all to be pretty surprised," Harper told reporters of his celebration after a 7-2 win over the Mets.

Harper was taking a risk doing that particular soccer celebration. He started his run very close to the dirt where there's not a lot of room before hitting the dugout gate.

Fortunately, Harper's momentum stopped quickly and prevented a potential rough moment for what should only have been a celebration.

The Phillies and Mets are playing a two-game series in London this weekend. Saturday was the first game between the two NL East rivals.

Manaea looked to be in complete control of the game before Harper's homer. The only baserunner he allowed through 4.1 innings was a double to Harper in the top of the first.

New York took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Francisco Lindor came around to score on Starling Marte's double off Phillies starter Ranger Suárez.

The solo blast from Harper opened the floodgates for the Phillies. They put up six runs on six hits in the fourth, chasing Manaea from the game with two outs in the inning.

Harper is now up to 15 homers this season, six away from matching his total in 126 games from the 2023 campaign. He has been one of the main driving forces behind an offense that entered the day ranked second in MLB with 320 runs scored.

The Phillies have been a juggernaut so far this season. Their .698 winning percentage (44-19) coming into Saturday was the best mark in MLB. They are on a 113-win pace, which would shatter the franchise record for most victories in a season (102 in 2011).
