Chris Wilcox to Detroit?

Jun 19, 2009

The Detroit Pistons have many choices that must be made during this offseason. With the draft nearing and trade talks swirling through the league, free agency seems to be the Pistons' best option for adding to its team. The frontcourt will be the center of attention for the club.

Antonio McDyess is nearing the end of his career, and Rasheed Wallace seems to be running out of gas. Jason Maxiell is undersized, and Amir Johnson still has not shown himself to be a true threat on the floor. Kwame Brown's Detroit career never seemed to get off the ground.

In short, the Pistons will definitely be on the market for a big man this summer.

One player that's currently below the radar of the Carlos Boozers, Lamar Odoms, and Rasheeds of the League is 6'10" New York forward Chris Wilcox. The Pistons are in need of a player that stays down in the low post, and this 26-year-old banger brings a huge athletic body. His career numbers are not reflective of what his value is to the right team; rest assured he can rebound, block shots, and hold his own against other giants in the NBA.

Detroit signing Wilcox would also benefit the Pistons even if they opt to re-sign Wallace. Much has been made about Sheed's inconsistencies playing down low, but with Wilcox, he can stay on the wing or at the top of the key. Chris could prove to be a better version of Ben Wallace if given the chance and the right situation.

Wilcox has yet to find the best place for his career to truly get going, but Detroit would be a perfect opportunity for him. Hopefully, Joe Dumars feels the same way.
