Draymond Green Trade Rumors: Warriors '100%' Discussed Move amid Kevin Durant Buzz

The Golden State Warriors have "100 percent" discussed moving off franchise legend Draymond Green internally, per Sam Amick of The Athletic.

Appearing on FanDuel TV's Run It Back on Wednesday, Amick said the Warriors have "internally" discussed the possibility of moving Green.

Amick, however, did clarify that he didn't think the Warriors would make the move.

"I don't even know if we're going to talk Warriors today, but for me, they come to mind too, right?

"Because, like, they're in the middle of this desperate time where they're trying to get another star, and as of yesterday, we're looking at it and going, 'Oh boy, they might actually get off Draymond.'

"Or do something like that where the loyalty questions come into play with a situation like that, too.

"I don't think that's gonna happen, but it's 100 percent been discussed internally and that speaks to what you're talking about."

This latest report comes amid buzz that the Warriors are looking to potentially bring Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant back to the team, according to Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix:

The 34-year-old Green, a four-time All-Star, has played in Golden State for his entire 13-year NBA career, winning four NBA titles and making eight NBA All-Defensive Teams.

Amick, David Aldridge and Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported on the Warriors' pursuit of Durant and mentioned the possibility of Green going the other way to Phoenix.

"In exploratory conversations, the Warriors have only been met with an exorbitant asking price in theoretical structures — essentially everything of future value — considering the tricky spot the Suns seem to find themselves," The Athletic trio wrote.

"League sources say four-time All-Star forward Draymond Green, who has an established relationship with fellow Michigan State alum and Suns owner Mat Ishbia, is among the Warriors players Phoenix is known to covet."

NBA insiders Jake Fischer and Marc Stein offered more insight on the dynamics of a possible Green-for-Durant swap on Wednesday:

"Sources say there is a possibility, mind you, that Green could be a part of any multi-team trade construction that brings Durant back to Golden State ... despite the fact that Green has long been regarded as all but off-limits in trade talks due to his very close relationship with Face of the Franchise Stephen Curry.

"One source briefed on the trade talks, furthermore, advised The Stein Line that the Warriors might have the gumption to trade for Durant anyway ... even if they believe he is disinclined to come back."

So there's obviously been some smoke here. And regarding Durant, Amick thought a move could even happen on Tuesday evening.

It didn't, but there's still time for it to happen with the trade deadline not until Thursday at 3 p.m. ET.

Ultimately, this trade deadline has shaken the NBA with Luka Dončić heading to the Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony Davis going to the Dallas Mavericks, De'Aaron Fox being sent to the San Antonio Spurs and Zach Lavine finding himself on the Sacramento Kings, among other moves.

The chaos may not be over just yet, though. Green appears likely to stay put in Golden State, but that's not a given either. Durant could very well find himself on his way out of Phoenix, though, as the clock ticks toward 3 p.m. Thursday.

Warriors Need Kevin Durant to Give Stephen Curry Last Shot at a Title amid NBA Rumors

The Golden State Warriors are running out of time to give 36-year-old franchise face Stephen Curry one last chance at adding to his NBA championship collection.

Their latest attempt is an awfully compelling one, though.

The Warriors have held "exploratory conversations" with the Phoenix Suns regarding net-shredding superstar Kevin Durant, per Sam Amick, David Aldridge and Anthony Slater of The Athletic. Golden State would struggle to even dream of many better outcomes for its second-star search than bringing Durant back to the Bay.

He's an all-time great who hasn't even hinted at leaving his prime. His 26.9 points per game are almost perfectly aligned with his career scoring average (27.2), and he remains one of the most efficient high-volume scorers around (52.4/39.8/82.7).

The Warriors have long been in the market to give Curry a capable co-star on the offensive end. Durant is the rare type of elite who could actually take over go-to scoring duties and allow Curry to cook as an overqualified second option.

Granted, this twosome wouldn't have the longest shelf life, since both will turn 37 before 2025 is finished. What it could have, however, is an all-access pass to immediately join the Association's elite ranks.

There's no right way for opposing defenses to handle an offense featuring both Curry and Durant. The first time these two linked up, the Warriors averaged 60.7 wins over a three-season stretch, during which they booked three NBA Finals trips and won two championships.

The 2018-19 team had what was then the highest offensive rating in league history, per StatHead Basketball. The 2016-17 squad was only two spots lower on that list.

This was basketball brilliance the likes of which the NBA had rarely (if ever) seen.

Curry and Durant were younger, of course, and the supporting cast was stronger than what they'd have around them now. It's tough to tell exactly what the Suns would seek in return for Durant, but The Athletic scribes reported the Warriors' overtures "have only been meet with an exorbitant asking price" with Phoenix being "known to covet" Draymond Green and having "a level of interest" in Jonathan Kuminga.

Golden State, in other words, wouldn't be title favorites even with Durant.

It would, however, warrant a place in championship discussions. And since the Warriors have missed the playoffs in three of the five seasons since Durant's departure, one can only assume they are eager to restore that kind of relevance.

Very little should be off-limits in a Durant pursuit. He is the best player connected to the trade market and one who has already proved to be a perfect fit for this system.

He's also someone sure to elicit aggressive offers from others. The Athletic reporters relayed that the Dallas Mavericks "have dreams" of slotting Durant alongside Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis. The ahead-of-schedule, asset-rich Houston Rockets are reportedly "known to be contemplating a pursuit of Durant as well."

And, remember, the Warriors were already facing a high bar with the challenge of just getting the Suns to let Durant go.

Durant would cost a fortune. If Golden State got him, it would be up against one of the league's most urgent win-right-now time crunches.

It's still worth it. The Warriors aren't competing for anything of significance without him. Not during whatever remains of Curry's championship window, at least.

Steph Curry Slams 'Twitter Fingers' for Warriors Trade Talk amid NBA Deadline Rumors

Orlando Magic v Golden State Warriors

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry reiterated his belief in the roster as constructed ahead of the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline.

Following Wednesday's 116-115 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Curry said on SportsCenter that "all the Twitter fingers who's got deals that we need to make can kind of shut up a little bit and let us figure this thing out."

The two-time MVP also pushed back on the idea he's necessarily content "being on an average basketball team."

Curry, teammate Draymond Green and head coach Steve Kerr have all echoed the same general sentiment in recent days. They all believe it would be counterproductive to leverage the Warriors' best remaining trade assets in a deal that probably wouldn't raise the franchise's ceiling to a significant degree.

It's a pretty frank assessment and one that paints a realistic picture of Golden State's situation. The team is 20-20 and 10th in the Western Conference, and its fate is tied to two stars, Curry and Green, who continue to play well but are no longer at their peak.

In the present market, there simply isn't one single trade that will turn the Warriors into a top contender overnight. And giving up young forward Jonathan Kuminga or valuable draft capital if the ultimate return is reaching the second round of the playoffs.

This all reflects how discourse around the NBA is increasingly wrapped around the idea that a team can only exist in one of two states. You're either pushing for a title or you're rebuilding. There's no glamor to be had in simply qualifying for the playoffs or being a fading dynasty in which your remaining legends are winding down their careers.

Sure, it would be great if Curry and Green led Golden State to another title, but there's still joy to be had in watching them try to lift the Warriors into the postseason while helping build the bridge to the next generation.

It sounds like that's what Curry and Green are content to do at this stage of their careers.

Andre Iguodala's No. 9 Jersey to Be Retired by Warriors; Won 2015 NBA Finals MVP<br>

Andre Iguodala is set to become the seventh player to have his number retired by the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors will retire Iguodala's No. 9 after a home game against the Dallas Mavericks on Feb. 23, the team announced Tuesday.

Iguodala reached six NBA Finals, earned the 2015 NBA Final MVP award and won four championships with the Warriors. He played seven seasons over two separate stints with the franchise before retiring after his 19th NBA season in 2023.

The Warriors acquired Iguodala in a sign-and-trade deal in July 2013. He went on to play a key role in the Warriors' run to the 2015 title, defending LeBron James to help the franchise earn their first championship since 1975.

Iguodala retired as one of the most productive postseason competitors in Warriors history, ranking top-five in assists, steals and three-pointers made through 111 playoff games with the franchise.

"Andre will go down as one of the smartest, shrewdest and most unique and successful players ever to wear a Warriors uniform," Warriors CEO Joe Lacob said in a statement. "We thought all of that could be true when we acquired him in 2013, but the reality—four titles, six Finals appearances, a Finals MVP—exceeded even our wildest imaginations.

"He was the perfect player and person at the perfect time for our team, and the sacrifice he made in coming off the bench in 2014 sent a message that he came here to help us do one thing: win. The proof is in the rafters, and his number belongs alongside the banners he helped us raise."

The Warriors have previously retired six numbers. Iguodala is now set to join Wilt Chamberlain's No. 13, Tom Meschery's No. 14, Alvin Attles' No. 16, Chris Mullin's No. 17, Rick Barry's No. 24 and Nate Thurmond's No. 42 in the rafters at Chase Center.

Iguodala is the first, and won't be the last, member of the Warriors roster that won four titles between 2015 and 2022 to see his number retired by the franchise. Klay Thompson's No. 11, Draymond Green's No. 23, Kevin Durant's No. 35 and Stephen Curry's No. 30 are candidates for the honor following the conclusion of their NBA careers.

The Mavericks and Warriors tip off at 3:30 p.m. ET. Thompson, who was also with the Warriors for all four title runs before joining the Mavs ahead of the 2024-25 season, is set to be in attendance for Iguodala's jersey raising.

NBA Rumors: Warriors 'Reluctant' to Trade Jonathan Kuminga, Will Eye Frontcourt Help

Memphis Grizzlies v Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors continue to value forward Jonathan Kuminga highly with less than a month to go until the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline, according to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto.

Scotto reported Thursday that Kuminga "remains a player Golden State is reluctant to part with."

"Ideally, the Warriors want to give [Stephen] Curry and fellow franchise stalwart Draymond Green another shot at competing for a championship in the latter stages of their careers, but they won't mortgage future assets just to make a trade," he wrote.

Scotto reported the Warriors "inquired about potential frontcourt upgrades" and cited the Chicago Bulls' Nikola Vučević, Utah Jazz's John Collins, Washington Wizards' Jonas ValančiĆ«nas and Portland Trail Blazers' Robert Williams III as prospective targets.

Kuminga hasn't taken big strides on the court this year to build on the improvement he made in 2023-24. He's averaging 16.8 points on 45.9 percent shooting along with 5.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists through 32 appearances.

Still, the 22-year-old is the best young player Golden State has and somebody who can contribute positively for the franchise when Curry and Green eventually move on.

A lot of teams in the Warriors' position would feel a level of pressure and urgency to upgrade the supporting cast around Curry and Green and chase one more championship. That certainly seemed to be the case in the summer, when they chased both Paul George and Lauri Markkanen.

But Curry, Green and head coach Steve Kerr are all sending the same message about what the organization's priorities should be right now. They've all lobbied against making a blockbuster trade that doesn't significantly raise the Warriors' ceiling for the sake of being active ahead of the deadline.

Acquiring Jimmy Butler, for example, probably doesn't lift Golden State to the top of the Western Conference. And Butler aside, there isn't another major star who looks to be realistically available right now.

Without that kind of piece on the board, it's hard to see how the Warriors part with Kuminga between now and the deadline.

NBA Rumors: Warriors Have Discussed 3-Team Trade with Butler to Suns, Wiggins to Heat

With Thursday's trade deadline looming, the Golden State Warriors could be a key player in efforts to get Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat to the Phoenix Suns.

Sam Amick, David Aldridge and Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported on the situation Tuesday, noting "both the Warriors and Suns have cluttered salary structures, but both ownership groups have shown a willingness to pay up for players they desire.

"The Warriors also have a potential path to help guide Butler to Phoenix, if they pull the trigger on an Andrew Wiggins-centric trade with Miami that has been discussed."

Butler has been connected to the Suns over and over again, but no trade has yet materialized.

ESPN's Tim Bontemps reported "there isn't a lot of interest in acquiring Butler" around the league outside of the Suns, and that is much easier said than done because Phoenix has been unable to find a landing spot for Bradley Beal given his $50.2 million salary and no-trade clause.

The Athletic report noted the Warriors could be interested in Kevin Durant, which could be a factor in any discussions involving Golden State with the Suns and Heat.

But from Phoenix's perspective, ending up with Butler in a win-now move but giving up Durant would be a net negative for its championship chances this season. It wouldn't make much sense to go out of the way to get Butler if he wasn't being paired with both Durant and Devin Booker.

After all, a Butler, Durant and Booker trio could be a threat to any opponent in a playoff series. Yet the conversation and overall ceiling drastically changes if Durant is shipped out.

As for the Heat, moving Butler and ending up with Wiggins would allow them to move on from the drama that has dominated headlines of late all while adding a solid scorer on the wing who could help in an Eastern Conference playoff push.

NBA Rumors: Draymond Green, Kuminga Eyed By Suns in Kevin Durant Trade with Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are reportedly calling teams about every All-Star player in the league, and that apparently includes ex-Warrior and current Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant.

On Tuesday, Sam Amick, David Aldridge and Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported the latest on the Durant-Suns-Warriors front, noting how Phoenix could move KD to form a pathway to landing Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler.

As far as what the Suns would want in return, Warriors forwards Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga were both mentioned.

"With Butler continuing to angle his way toward the Suns, Phoenix might need to move Durant for the kind of returns that allows it to enhance its offer to Miami," The Athletic trio wrote.

"As of now, league sources say the Suns' messaging about their willingness to trade Durant is different depending on the team.

"In exploratory conversations, the Warriors have only been met with an exorbitant asking price in theoretical structures — essentially everything of future value — considering the tricky spot the Suns seem to find themselves. League sources say four-time All-Star forward Draymond Green, who has an established relationship with fellow Michigan State alum and Suns owner Mat Ishbia, is among the Warriors players Phoenix is known to covet."

Regarding Kuminga, The Athletic had this to say.

"The Suns also have indicated a level of interest in fourth-year forward Jonathan Kuminga, a player the Warriors drafted seventh overall in 2021, have been protective of in most trade discussions for years and still view as part of the future," The Athletic wrote.

"But Durant's potential availability, and this once-unthinkable notion of him reuniting with the franchise he helped lead to two titles, has a way of altering the discussion."

A Warriors-Suns shake-up wouldn't be surprising, especially with both teams and the Sacramento Kings in a three-way tie for ninth in the Western Conference.

Both teams are fighting just to make the playoffs, and they need to do something different.

Phoenix just won nine of 12 games, but a pair of losses at the 21-29 Portland Trail Blazers is concerning. Meanwhile, the Warriors' 12-3 start is long gone, as the team's record is 13-21 since.

After the Dallas Mavericks just traded one of the game's best players, Luka Dončić, in his prime, it seems like anything could be on the table around the league. The Suns moving KD wouldn't be a shock even though he's a perennial superstar averaging 26.9 points per game. Phoenix was hoping for better results after trying for a Big Three with Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, but they haven't materialized.

As for the Warriors, they obviously know firsthand that Durant and Curry would form a great pairing, considering the two combined for three Western Conference titles and two NBA championships from the 2016-17 to 2018-19 seasons.

Granted, they wouldn't be flanked by Klay Thompson anymore, and Green could very well be heading to Phoenix in a hypothetical deal based on The Athletic report. But like the Suns, the Warriors need to make a move and hope for the best, as the status quo isn't working.

The time to watch is 3 p.m. ET on Thursday, when the NBA's trade deadline hits. It's already been a seismic trade season, but the moves may not be done just yet.

NBA Trade Rumors: Warriors' Dennis Schröder 'Available' amid Durant, Butler Buzz

The Golden State Warriors traded for Dennis Schröder earlier this season, but he could once again be on the move if the Western Conference team is able to land a superstar ahead of Thursday's deadline.

"What helps them a little bit for tomorrow is Dennis Schröder is now available for trade," ESPN's Marc J. Spears said of Golden State's quest for a star during an appearance on Tuesday's episode of NBA Today. "He has $13 million and now they can add him into a deal. They're trying, they're trying, they're trying. But at some point, either they or somebody else is going to have to blink."

The update comes after Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated reported Golden State is "serious" about trading for Kevin Durant in part because "efforts to acquire Jimmy Butler stalled rival execs believe the Suns are strongly considering Durant deals before the deadline."

Golden State getting Durant back would certainly shift the landscape of the Western Conference and be a reunion of sorts after the future Hall of Famer helped lead the team to three straight NBA Finals and two titles from 2016-19. He was the NBA Finals MVP in 2017 and 2018, securing his spot in franchise lore even in a short amount of time.

If he returned to the Warriors and helped lead them out of the inconsistency that has them in a tie for 10th place in the West, it would only add to his status within the franchise.

It is notable that Golden State has been connected to stars such as Durant and Butler. The front office could have looked at a team that is fighting for a spot in the play-in tournament and decided it wasn't worth mortgaging future assets for what might be a lost season anyway.

However, Stephen Curry turns 37 years old in March. This might be one of the final times the Warriors can make a deep playoff run with the star guard leading the way, and getting him and Draymond Green another impact player to work alongside would go a long way toward making that a reality.

Giving up Schröder in a trade would certainly be an acceptable loss.

After all, he is shooting just 37.5 percent from the field and 32.2 percent from deep in 24 games since joining the Warriors and hasn't raised the ceiling nearly as much as the front office likely hoped.

Perhaps the next trade will.

NBA Rumors: Brandon Ingram Eyed by Warriors amid Kevin Durant, Butler Trade Buzz

The Golden State Warriors have reportedly looked into the possibility of acquiring forward Brandon Ingram from the New Orleans Pelicans prior to Thursday's NBA trade deadline.

According to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, the Warriors have also explored potential trades for Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant and Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler, but Ingram is an option if they can't get a bigger deal done.

Ingram, who is in the midst of the final year of his contract, has not played since December due to an ankle injury.

It remains unclear when Ingram will be able to return to game action, as the Pelicans have yet to provide a concrete update on his sprained ankle.

Per SI.com's Terry Kimble, Ingram has done some on-court work before home games recently, which is a sign that he is making some progress.

The 27-year-old Ingram has appeared in only 18 games this season, but he put up strong numbers in those games, averaging 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 2.4 three-pointers made per contest while shooting 46.5 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from beyond the arc.

Ingram, who was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft out of Duke, spent his first three NBA seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers before getting dealt to New Orleans as part of the Anthony Davis trade.

He was named an All-Star for the first and only time during his first season with the Pels, and Ingram was also chosen as the NBA Most Improved Player that season.

Ingram has averaged at least 20 points per game in each of his six seasons with the Pelicans, and averages 23.0 points per game overall in a Pels uniform.

The Warriors boast arguably the greatest shooter in NBA history in two-time MVP Stephen Curry, but the future Hall of Famer hasn't gotten a ton of help from his supporting cast this season.

Outside of Curry (22.1 points per game), the Dubs' top scorers are Andrew Wiggins (17.6) and and Jonathan Kuminga (16.8). Every other Warriors player averages 11.5 points per game or fewer.

Offseason and in-season acquisitions such as Buddy Hield, Dennis Schröder and Kyle Anderson haven't made the type of impact the Golden State front office likely hoped for, which is why the Warriors have reportedly been active in terms of trying to find a trade.

Durant, who previously won a pair of championships with the Warriors, would be the most impactful addition possible, but he may be more of a pipe dream than a realistic target.

Butler would also be a major addition considering he twice led the Heat to the NBA Finals and is a six-time All-Star.

However, Ingram would arguably be an even better fit for Golden State than Butler due to his length and ability to spread the floor in head coach Steve Kerr's uptempo offense.

At 25-24, the Warriors are in a three-way tie with the Sacramento Kings and Suns for ninth in the Western Conference, meaning they are far from guaranteed to make the playoffs.

However, if the Dubs land Ingram and he returns healthy in the near future, he could be just what Curry needed in terms of a capable scorer to take some of the pressure off him.

Kevin Durant Trade Rumors: Concern over Star's 'True Willingness' to Rejoin Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are somewhat concerned about Kevin Durant's "true willingness" for a reunion if they were to work out a trade with the Phoenix Suns, according to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer.

Durant is one of multiple targets of the Warriors prior to Thursday's 3 p.m. ET trade deadline. ESPN's Shams Charania reported Monday on The Pat McAfee Show they're inquiring "about every All-Star player."

When it comes to Durant, getting the Suns to agree to a deal is the first hurdle.

It's one thing for Phoenix to move Bradley Beal, who's no longer a starter and has one of the worst contracts in the NBA. There's no way the Suns trade Durant and avoid getting worse in the short term.

But Fischer reported Monday that Phoenix is "believed to be listening at the very least to various teams' pitches." Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix followed up to report the opinion of some NBA executives is that "the Suns are strongly considering Durant deals before the deadline."

According to Fischer, Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga is a player of some interest within Phoenix's front office, so a swap centered around KD at least looks plausible.

Golden State might balk, however, if it senses the 15-time All-Star is less than enthused about playing in the Bay Area again. He doesn't have a no-trade clause, but it sort of defeats the purpose of a win-now trade if the star you acquired is unhappy or reticent from the jump.

Durant's Warriors tenure and his exit in free agency have been scrutinized in thorough detail. After three years there, he was simply ready to move on.

Maybe he'll feel differently now about the idea of putting on a Golden State uniform again. His relationship with Draymond Green seems to be in a much better place. Bob Myers is no longer the general manager, which might be a good thing. Most importantly, all of the key figures within the franchise are at different points in their lives than they were in 2019, having gained more wisdom and perspective that comes with age.

Yet, after achieving basically everything he can with the Warriors, Durant could conclude he's been there, done that and prefers to pursue a different challenge.
