One of the greatest athletes in tennis history made her return to the US Open on Saturday.

Serena Williams, whose last match came at the US Open in 2022, was in attendance at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, New York, to take in the event as a spectator rather than a competitor.

The last time Williams was at the US Open, it was the final tournament of her career and she made it to the third round where she lost to Ajla Tomljanović. At the time, she didn't say she was retiring but that she was "evolving" away from playing the sport professionally, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN).

While she didn't win in her last US Open, she dominated the event in the past, winning six times throughout her career. She also won the US Open three consecutive years in 2012, 2013 and 2014, which was her last US Open win.

Since playing her last match in 2022, Williams has had a successful career off the court. Along with her philanthropy work, she's had business endeavors that include being an owner of Angel City FC of the National Women's Soccer League. She announced two books in 2023 and hosted the ESPYs over the summer.

On Saturday, she got to enjoy being a fan of the sport she dominated for two decades.
