Boise State Football: Broncos Sign New Home-and-Home Deals with Two Teams

Mar 27, 2013

Boise State University has announced on BroncoSports.com that the football program has signed two more home-and-home series. UConn out of the Big East and Louisiana-Lafayette out of the Sun Belt have agreed to games here-and-there with the Broncos.

Once again, a pattern of traveling east and south emerges. This first became a pattern this spring when signing these kind of deals for Boise State.

One of the best things about joining the Big East was going to be the exposure east of the Mississippi. However, with the Broncos now remaining in the Mountain West it appears as if the administration at BSU has made it a clear goal to make sure that kind of exposure still occurs.

The article published on BroncoSports.com indicates that the games will start in 2014 with the Ragin' Cajuns coming to The Blue that season and the Broncos traveling to Hartford, Conn. for the first of two.

The follow up games will be a trip to Louisiana in 2016 and a visit from the Huskies in 2018.

The agreement will have UConn and Boise State exchanging $250,000 for each contest while the Louisiana-Lafayette games will guarantee $200,000 per.

Both of these teams have decent football programs, but UConn will certainly be the most anticipated by fans.

With the addition of UConn and Louisiana-Lafayette, the Broncos have now announced five home-and-home deals this spring. The others include Virginia, Florida State and Troy.

Boise State Football: Broncos Sign Home-and-Home with Troy

Mar 12, 2013

Boise State University has announced that the Trojans will play at Bronco Stadium.

But, before Bronco fans get too excited, it isn't the Trojans from Southern California making their way north. Instead it will be Troy University out of the Sun Belt.

Boise State announced its third home-and-home series deal in as many weeks. According to BroncoSports.com Boise State will welcome the Troy Trojans to Boise, Idaho in 2017. In return, the Broncos will travel to Troy, Alabama in 2018.

This is a far cry from the Florida State home-and-home series announced recently or even the Virginia home-and-home announced just a few weeks ago. Still, it is better than landing an FCS school, and brings a reasonable amount of intrigue for Bronco fans when the Trojans come to town.

Last season Troy finished just 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the Sun Belt Conference. They did have victories over Navy and Florida International. They also played a close game with less-than-stellar Tennessee in Knoxville finally falling 55-48 after the Volunteers scored 21 4th-quarter points.

If history is any indication however, Troy won't be the pushover some might assume.

They may have had a down year in 2013, but they have been competitive most seasons. The article on BroncoSports.com goes on to mention that under current head coach Larry Blakeney, the Trojans have won 64.3 percent of their games in the last 22 seasons.

As the Bronco's athletic department works hard to fill up their future non-conference schedule, another handful of these announcements should be arriving in coming months. Florida State and Virginia are probably more of what Boise State fans want to see.

However, you have to believe that many teams aren't all that excited to play on The Blue, a place where the Broncos have been extremely successful. It will certainly be a challenge to land more teams like Florida State and fewer teams like Troy.

Either way, it will be very interesting to see which teams might take a chance and travel to Boise to take on the Broncos.
