The Big 12 has been the deepest league in men's college basketball all season.

Three-fourths of the conference's 10 teams could land spots in the NCAA men's basketball tournament.

The depth across the board should give the Big 12 tournament some of the best games of any power conference during Championship Week.

Bill Self's Kansas Jayhawks are once again the top seed in Kansas City, but that does not guarantee they will cut down the nets inside the Sprint Center.

Kansas has only won three of the last eight Big 12 tournament titles. Three of the winners in that span have been the No. 4 or No. 5 seed.

The other strong programs in the league could use a win over Kansas, or a championship, as a springboard to success in the Big Dance.

Bracket Predictions

1. Kansas

2. Baylor

3. Texas

4. Kansas State

5. TCU

6. Oklahoma State

7. Iowa State

8. West Virginia

9. Texas Tech

10. Oklahoma

Kansas secured the regular-season crown and the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 tournament through the TCU Horned Frogs' win over the Texas Longhorns on Tuesday.

The Jayhawks hold a two-game lead over the Baylor Bears, Kansas State Wildcats and Texas going into the regular-season finales on Saturday. Two of those teams will end up on the opposite end of Kansas in the Big 12 tournament bracket.

Baylor has the easiest path to the No. 2 seed since it faces a struggling Iowa State Cyclones team on Saturday. The Bears were the No. 2 seed a year ago and lost in their first game in Kansas City.

Kansas State faces a tough road trip on Saturday against the West Virginia Mountaineers, and Texas finishes with Kansas.

K-State could drop to the No. 4 seed with a loss to West Virginia and into one of the most difficult opening games in any conference tournament.

The Big 12 is the top-rated conference on KenPom, and a No. 4-versus-No. 5 quarterfinal would be one of the most level matchups you can find at the quarterfinal round of any tournament.

TCU will be the likely opponent for the No. 4 seed, and it could be the most dangerous team in the tournament as the No. 5 seed.

The Horned Frogs won three of their last four games, and they are getting healthier at the right time with guard Mike Miles back on the floor.

Jamie Dixon's team beat Kansas inside Allen Fieldhouse and lost the return game by five points. TCU could be the squad that knocks out the Jayhawks in Kansas City in the semifinals.

Before TCU and the other top-six teams in the Big 12 take the floor, there will be some drama in the opening night of contests.

ESPN's Joe Lunardi listed West Virginia on his "Last Four Byes" line, the Oklahoma State Cowboys on the "First Four Out" line and the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the "Next Four Out" group in his bracket update on Wednesday.

Texas Tech and West Virginia could face each other in the No.8-versus-No. 9 first-round contest. The Red Raiders would have to win that game to keep their bleak NCAA tournament hopes alive.

West Virginia can't afford a first-round loss in Kansas City in case other bubble teams produce better conference tournament results, or bid thieves emerge in mid-major leagues.

Oklahoma State can beat Texas Tech on Saturday and land in the No. 6 seed by way of two head-to-head wins over Iowa State, who is trending downward with six losses in the last seven games.

The Cowboys probably need one big win in Kansas City to feel safe about their March Madness prospects.

Oklahoma State could have some extra motivation to win in Kansas City because it sat out last year as part of a one-year postseason ban. It has the potential to make some noise if it gets back on track with a win over Texas Tech on Saturday.

Kansas will be viewed as the favorite to cut down the nets in Kansas City, but recent history suggests other top seeds have a better chance of landing in the final.

Only two of the last five Big 12 tournament championships featured the No. 1 seed, and Kansas may be susceptible to an upset by TCU or Kansas State, or even Baylor or Texas, if the Bears or Longhorns drop into the No. 4.

If anything, the Big 12 tournament will serve as a great test for Kansas, and the other national championship contenders in the conference, as a warm-up for March Madness because there are so many high-caliber teams in the league.

Baylor Applauded by CBB Twitter for Downing Texas After Keyonte George's Ankle Injury

Baylor just needed some home cooking.

After dropping two straight on the road, the No. 9 Bears returned to the Ferrell Center on Saturday and bounced back with an 81-72 victory over No. 8 Texas to improve to 21-8 overall and 10-6 in the Big 12.

Perhaps the only ones happier than Baylor with the result was Kansas, as the Jayhawks moved ahead of the Longhorns in the conference standings. Texas fell to 22-7 overall and 11-5 in the Big 12 because it was unable to take advantage of a quick start.

Baylor's win was all the more notable because it lost leading scorer Keyonte George to an early injury, and it drew plenty of praise from social media:

The Bears couldn't have scripted a worse start even outside of George's injury. They couldn't make a shot, had early turnover problems and scored a grand total of four points in the first eight minutes as they fell behind by double digits.

Just when it seemed like the Longhorns would cruise to a straightforward road win, Baylor flipped the game with an 18-0 run behind a stifling defensive effort that continued throughout the game.

It limited Texas' leading scorer Marcus Carr to 3-of-10 shooting, cut off driving lanes and pressured ball-handlers as it gradually seized control of the contest. Dylan Disu did his best to keep the Longhorns within striking distance with 24 points in an impressive showing, but it was nowhere near enough to counter the effort on the other end.

Adam Flagler (14 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals) did a little bit of everything, Flo Thamba (12 points and 12 rebounds) and Jalen Bridges (17 points and eight rebounds) controlled the boards and provided interior scoring, and Dale Bonner and Langston Love provided a spark off the bench with their outside shooting.

It was just the type of win that can springboard a team into March, and the Bears will look to keep things rolling against Oklahoma State on Monday.

Kentucky's John Calipari Reportedly Has 'Some Level of Interest' in Texas HC Opening

The John Calipari-to-Texas rumors just won't go away. At least not completely.

According to ESPN's Jeff Borzello, "There seems to be some level of interest on both sides, according to sources, but Texas hasn't advanced too far in its search, and it's premature to say Calipari is even involved."

When Kentucky was off to a 10-6 start and fan unrest was high, losing Calipari to Texas may not have set off alarm bells for fans in Lexington. But the Wildcats have responded by winning nine out of their last 12 games, including two wins over Tennessee.

This is no longer a bubble team—a strong SEC tournament could see this Kentucky side earn itself a very solid seed.

And as Borzello added, "Firing him was not really a feasible option anyway; his buyout is in the $40 million range."

Texas, meanwhile, just never seems to quite get the basketball program to the heights that the school's resources would suggest it should reach.

Before Chris Beard's arrest on a felony domestic violence charge, and his subsequent firing, he was 29-13 with one NCAA tournament appearance, though the team bowed out in the second round.

In fact, the Longhorns haven't gotten past the first weekend since reaching the Elite Eight in the 2007-08 season.

That hasn't been an issue for Calipari's Kentucky—since taking over in the 2009-10 season, he's won a title, reached the Final Four three times, the Elite Eight six times and the Sweet 16 seven times. He's only missed the NCAA tournament twice, though one of those came last season, leading to the increased consternation around this year's slow start.

But it would appear the ship has been righted, at least for the time being. Just don't be surprised if Texas comes calling.

No. 5 Kansas Stuns CBB Twitter with 'Ridiculous' 2nd-Half Comeback vs. No. 9 Baylor

Down 13 at halftime, the No. 5 Kansas Jayhawks did not blink.

Instead, the reigning national champions rode one of the most dominant stretches of their season to a 87-71 win over the No. 9 Baylor Bears at Allen Fieldhouse on Saturday. Bill Self's team completely flipped the game on its head after a poor opening 20 minutes and ended up with a double-digit victory.

The second half was all Rock Chalk Jayhawk as Kansas outscored their conference rivals 55-26 in the second half.

https://twitter.com/Blacketologist/status/1627082669573173250

Coming out halftime down 45-32, it took just over five minutes for Kansas to take the lead on a Gradey Dick three-pointer.

It was a lead that the Jayhawks would never surrender.

Four out of Kansas' five starters finished in double-digit scoring, but the team was led national player of the year contender Jalen Wilson who finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds after having just seven points in the first half.

Kansas really tightened up defensively during that dominant stretch, neutralizing Baylor's trio of Keyonte George, Adam Flagler and LJ Cryer, who combined for 42 points in the first half.

The three of them struggled mightily in the second half as the Bears finished shooting just 44.1 percent from the floor. Kansas also allowed just one three-pointer in the final 20 minutes after Baylor drained nine in the first half.

Kansas is now sits atop the Big 12 standings following the win and are on a four-game win streak, playing some of their very best basketball of the year at the right time. Meanwhile, Baylor remains third in the conference.

Former Texas HC Chris Beard's Domestic Violence Charge Dropped by District Attorney

The district attorney's office in Travis County, Texas, dismissed the domestic violence case against former Texas men's basketball coach Chris Beard on Wednesday:

"Our office takes all domestic abuse cases seriously to ensure justice for the victims," district attorney José Garza said. "In every case, we are obligated to evaluate the facts and evidence and do our best to reach an outcome that will keep the victim and our community safe."

Beard released a statement on Thursday:

Texas fired Beard on Jan. 5 and wrote a letter to him citing a portion of his contract to say he was fired for cause. Rodney Terry was tabbed as his replacement on an interim basis.

Beard's lawyer, Perry Minton, responded to the letter and contended whether the university had grounds to terminate his contract in that manner. He had signed a seven-year, $35 million deal in April 2021.

His ouster came less than a month after he was arrested by Austin police.

The Austin Police Department said officers responded to an alleged domestic disturbance on Dec. 12: "APD officers responded and located a woman who stated she had been assaulted and strangled by Christopher Michael Beard."

According to the arrest affidavit obtained by the Austin American-Statesman, Beard's fiancee, Randi Trew, told an officer at the scene she and Beard "had been upset with each other for several days over relationship issues." She said he assaulted her during an argument on Dec. 12.

"He just snapped on me and became super violent," Trew said.

She alleged he "choked me, threw me off the bed, bit me, bruises all over my leg, throwing me around, and going nuts." Officers said they observed a bite mark on Trew's right forearm, abrasions to her right eyebrow and left leg, and a cut on her thumb.

However, Trew issued a statement on Dec. 23 saying Beard "did not strangle me" and that she wouldn't "refute" his allegation of acting in self-defense.

"I do not believe Chris was trying to intentionally harm me in any way," she said. "It was never my intent to have him arrested or prosecuted."

No 9. Kansas defeated unranked Kentucky 77-68 on Saturday night at Rupp Arena in Lexington to snap a three-game losing streak.

Following disappointing losses to No. 5 Kansas State, No. 11 TCU and No. 17 Baylor, the Jayhawks desperately needed a win against Kentucky on Saturday, and their best player showed up when it mattered most.

Junior forward Jalen Wilson continued his phenomenal season with 22 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win. He made 9 of 18 shots from the floor and 2 of 3 shots from deep.

Saturday's win marks the fourth straight game that Wilson has scored 20-plus points, and he's quickly rising up the charts as a player of the year candidate:

https://twitter.com/Tyler_Greever/status/1619534771637604354

Wilson entered Saturday's game averaging 21.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 20 games this season while shooting 42.7 percent from the floor and 34.1 percent from deep.

If the 22-year-old can continue competing at a high level, there's no doubt he should be included in the player of the year conversation.

The Jayhawks will be back in action against No. 5 Kansas State on Tuesday. The two teams last met on Jan. 17, with Kansas State coming out on top 83-82 in a game Wilson scored 38 points.

Oklahoma's Taylor Robertson Breaks D1 NCAA Women's Basketball 3-Point Record

Oklahoma guard Taylor Robertson is the most prolific three-point shooter in women's Division I basketball history.

The senior star made her 498th career three-point basket in the first quarter of Saturday's 86-78 loss to Iowa State.

Kelsey Mitchell, who played at Ohio State from 2014-18, was the record-holder with 497 made threes.

Robertson is a fifth-year season after receiving an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She surpassed Mitchell in one fewer game (138 to 139) and needed 151 fewer three-point attempts to break the record (1,135 to 1,286).

The Kansas native has been one of the best three-point shooters in the country since she arrived in college. She entered Saturday making 41.8 percent of her attempts behind the arc this season.

Robertson has never made fewer than 41 percent of her three-point attempts in each of her five seasons at Oklahoma. She is also the NCAA's active leader in free-throw percentage with a career 92.0 percent clip coming into Saturday.

The 5'11" guard has made at least 85 three-pointers in each of the previous four seasons. She entered today with 51 makes from behind the arc in 19 games.

If Robertson maintains her current pace, she could finish her college career with more than 530 three-pointers. She has a chance to get that number to around 550 if the Sooners make a deep run in the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments.

Despite Robertson's record-setting day, the Sooners are in a rut with back-to-back losses against Texas and Iowa State. They entered this week ranked No. 14 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll after winning 16 of their first 17 games.

No. 2 Kansas Upset by No. 14 TCU in 2nd-Worst Home Loss Under Bill Self

The No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks were upset by the No. 14 TCU Horned Frogs 83-60 on Saturday night at Allen Fieldhouse for their worst home loss in two years and one of the worst losses in the Bill Self era.

Self has been head coach of the Jayhawks since 2003, and the worst loss of his career came against Texas in January 2021 when his team fell 84-59 to the Longhorns. Saturday's loss to TCU is the team's second-largest loss at home under Self.

The loss also ended a 16-game home winning streak for Kansas, which dropped to 16-3 on the season.

TCU was dominant from start to finish, mounting a 10-point lead going into halftime. The Horned Frogs then outscored the Jayhawks 35-22 in the second half to close out just their third win over Kansas in 23 games dating back to February 2013.

"The way they chewed gum. The way they tied their shoes. Everything they did was perfect today," Self said of TCU after the loss. "They played great. They're so fast. They're so athletic off the bench. Their bench was unbelievable. ... That was a beatdown."

Shahada Wells led the way for the Horned Frogs, finishing with 17 points, five rebounds, two assists and four steals off the bench. Mike Miles Jr. finished with 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and one steal, while Damion Baugh notched 11 points, three rebounds, four assists and one steal.

It's a tough loss for the Jayhawks, which squandered another 30-point night from Jalen Wilson. The 22-year-old finished with 30 points, seven rebounds and two assists in Saturday's loss after putting up 38 points, nine rebounds and one assist in an 83-82 overtime loss to No. 13 Kansas State on Jan. 17.

Kansas now sits third in the Big 12, while TCU improved to fifth place with an overall record of 15-4.

The Jayhawks are set to face No. 21 Baylor on Monday before facing unranked Kentucky in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Jan. 28.

The Horned Frogs, meanwhile, will host unranked Oklahoma on Tuesday before taking on unranked Mississippi State in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Jan. 28.

Kansas and TCU will meet again on Feb. 20 in Fort Worth, Texas.

The No. 13 Kansas State Wildcats upset the No. 2 Kansas Jayhawks 83-82 in overtime on Tuesday in Manhattan to improve to 16-2 this season.

Keyontae Johnson and Desi Sills were brilliant for Kansas State in the win. Johnson finished with 24 points, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block in the win. He also scored the game-winning basket, a poster alley-oop dunk on Jalen Wilson.

Sills finished with 24 points, four rebounds and three steals off the bench.

Johnson's performance was all anyone could talk about, though, as this season is his first back on the court in two years since collapsing after a timeout during the Florida/Florida State men's basketball game on Dec. 12, 2020.

First-year head coach Jerome Tang also received some praise following the big win. He's led a massive turnaround on a Kansas State team that hasn't had a winning record since the 2018-19 season.

https://twitter.com/jakeweingarten/status/1615541101578027010

Entering Tuesday night, Kansas State hadn't beaten Kansas in Manhattan since 2019. The two teams are now tied atop the Big 12 standings.

Fans hoping to see more basketball between these two teams will be excited to learn the next matchup is right around the corner. The Wildcats will visit the Jayhawks on Jan. 31 before hosting No. 7 Texas on Feb. 4.
