A movie about Formula One racing starring Brad Pitt is in production and set for a June 2025 release.

According to Sky Sports, the untitled movie is being made by Apple Original Films, and legendary F1 driver Lewis Hamilton is serving as a co-producer.

Additionally, the film is being directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, which is the same duo that teamed up for critically acclaimed Top Gun: Maverick movie.

Apple and Formula One released a joint statement Tuesday, confirming that the movie will be released internationally on June 25, 2025, and two days later on June 27, 2025, in North America.

The statement also provided more details, including information regarding F1's involvement in the movie:

"The movie is a landmark for the sport and cinema, filmed in real-time during grands prix around the world and involving the Formula One community, including all 10 teams, the drivers, the FIA and race promoters.

"The new feature film is set in the exhilarating and cinematic world of Formula One and will immerse audiences in the spectacle of the most popular annual sports series, celebrating the skill and heroism of the drivers while showcasing the incredible challenge of competition in Formula One."

The film also "will see Brad Pitt star as a former driver who returns to Formula One, alongside Damson Idris as his rookie team-mate at APXGP, a fictional team on the grid, battling against the sport's drivers and teams."

Pitt and Idris attended multiple F1 races in 2023 to partake in filming, and the filming will continue at multiple races this season, including the British Grand Prix and Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Hamilton's involvement in the movie figures to aid significantly in ensuring that it provides fans with a realistic F1 experience.

The 39-year-old veteran is among the greatest F1 drivers of all time, as he is first on the all-time list with 103 race wins, and tied with Michael Schumacher for the most career driver championships with seven.

Canadian F1 Grand Prix 2024 Results: Max Verstappen Wins 60th Race of Career

Max Verstappen won Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix, claiming his 60th win on what was a wild day of Formula One racing at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal.

Lando Norris finished second, his third time as the runner-up this year, while George Russell claimed third.

This was Verstappen's sixth win on the season, though it wasn't an easy one.

A wet track led to a number of safety cars and Charles Leclerc's car struggling enough that he eventually pulled out of the race. Verstappen had his own issues on the day but persevered.

"It was a pretty crazy race, a lot of things were happening and we had to keep on top of our calls," Verstappen said after the race. "As a team we did really well today, we remained calm and we pitted at the right time, the safety car worked out nicely for us but even after that we were managing the gaps quite well. I love it, that was a lot of fun, those kind of races you need once in a while."

Norris, who finished second, had his chances to steal the win but wasn't as steady as the seemingly inevitable Verstappen.

"It was [wild]. It was chaos, it was eventful to be honest. I felt like I drove a good race, the whole time, from start to finish," he noted. "The first two stints were strong, I had amazing pace, then the safety car had me over, just like it helped me in Miami. It's now had me back over. Honestly, I thought it was a pretty perfect race from my side, just a bit unlucky but it was good fun overall."

But it's Verstappen's world, and the rest of us are just taking a pit stop in it. He's now won six of the nine races this season after winning 19 of 22 last year. There isn't an athlete who is dominating his or own sport on his level at this point.

Sunday was just another reminder of that fact.

Video: Michael Jordan Visits 23XI Racing's 'Airspeed' Headquarters After Renovation

Michael Jordan recently made the trip out to Huntersville, North Carolina, to get a firsthand look at 23XI Racing's new "Airspeed" headquarters.

The NBA legend sounded impressed as he was guided around the building and saw some of the amenities.

Airspeed opened in May, and 23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin laid out the grand ambitions for the project when he told NASCAR.com's Zack Albert he "wanted it to feel like the Google of race shops."

"This is not a race shop. It's a place that we work, yes, we put cars on the track, but it's so much more than that," Hamlin said. "Would you say sitting right here, we're in a race shop? No, it certainly doesn't feel that way. So I think what we were in—in Mooresville, in the old Germain (Racing) building—was a race shop and a garage. This is not. This is something that is different, and so it needs to be named appropriately."

According to Racer's Kelly Crandall, Airspeed features its own cafe and gym, the latter of which boasts a training room, hot and cold tubs, and a sauna.

Jordan's foray into sports ownership with the NBA's Charlotte Hornets didn't go well in a competitive sense. The franchise only had a winning record four times after he took control in March 2010.

The Hall of Famer did turn a massive profit, though, as he turned his initial $275 million investment into a sale with a $3 billion valuation.

23XI Racing, which has Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick racing full time, has fared a little better on the NASCAR Cup Series. The team has one win and six top-five finishes, and it sits sixth in the owner standings with 473 points.

Given the amount of work that was put into Airspeed, Jordan and Hamlin have major ambitions as NASCAR owners.

An unexpected visitor made a cameo during Saturday's Pacific Office Automation 147 at Portland International Raceway.

A coyote briefly ran onto the track before finding safe haven under one of the grandstands.

Coyote sightings aren't all that rare in Portland, Oregon, with the Portland Urban Coyote Project having received numerous reports of the animal popping up around the area. The group also downplayed the danger coyotes pose, saying that "seeing a coyote in the Portland metro area is totally normal and is typically no cause for alarm."

Shane van Gisbergen wound up claiming the checkered flag Saturday to notch the first NASCAR Xfinity Series win of his career.

Maybe the coyote was his good luck charm.

F1's Lewis Hamilton Says Fans Challenge Him to Race at Red Lights on 'Hot Ones' Video

Formula 1 Racing star Lewis Hamilton is known for his dominance on the racetrack, but that hasn't stopped some people from challenging the legendary driver.

During an appearance on Hot Ones, Hamilton was asked what happens when fans notice him driving alongside them and he said he's had some instances where they attempt to test his skills.

"I've had people be at a traffic light and want to race, yeah," Hamilton said around the 17:00 mark. "And definitely when I was young, like I'd felt like, 'Alright... gonna smoke this fool.'"

Hamilton is the winningest Formula 1 driver ever with seven World Drivers' Championships, 103 wins and 197 podium finishes. While he would surely have no problems holding his own in a street race, he said he's actually been subjected to more aggression from other drivers.

"I've had a lot of road rage because I often actually when I'm casually driving and not going somewhere for work or anything like that, I'm cruising, so most people are more in a rush than I am," Hamilton said. "So, I get a lot of road rage."

Hamilton went on to reveal the places where he's had most of his road rage experiences.

"I find in America, they're very quite aggressive. In L.A., I find them quite aggressive," Hamilton said. "New York is really aggressive. ... Yeah, people are pretty bad here. And then in Switzerland, they're really aggressive in the German-Swiss part. Yeah, they're like, crazy."

Hamilton is gearing up to compete in the Canadian Grand Prix on June 9, so if you see him in the street, it's probably best not to challenge him, as he will surely be ready to add another win to his lengthy list of victories.

F1 24 Review: Career Mode Impressions, Gameplay Videos and Top Features

Chris Roling
May 29, 2024

This year represents a chance for developer Codemasters to catapult its Formula One series up the hierarchy of sports games with F1 24.

A year ago, F1 23 arrived to strong responses because of the way it implemented regulation changes and put a bigger emphasis on a story mode.

Now F1 24 continues to layer atop the successes with a fresh career mode more akin to the heavyweights of the sports space, impressively overhauled visuals and a revamped handling system.

If F1 24 does more than pass an eye test, it will be the latest to improve upon the last while crafting a quality experience for newcomers and veteran players alike.

Gameplay

F1 23 made some serious headway in gameplay details such as braking, really driving the realism point to new levels while keeping it fun.

And while physics got a revamp last year too, a new handling system that feels like it comes from EA Sports WRC does the same again in F1 24—to fantastic results.

The game boasts new suspensions that indeed impacts the feel of a vehicle's center of gravity, which has a ripple effect on the weightyness of each ride.

Tires are also more impacted by both temperature and actual driver behavior than in the past. There's a notable difference in considering the longevity of tires throughout a race by playing corners as smooth as possible as opposed to wearing them down faster with aggressive driving.

The weightness and tire changes provide room for players to leave even more of a mark on their preferred style, with the tweaks more impacting weight before races now and the individual approach to a course dictating things like tire wear and stoppages.

Many of the changes, be it under-the-hood stuff or more player-facing aspects, have helped different-styled vehicles perform quite notably differently in handling.

So, even new players will end up noticing the handling nuances between types and certain parts, while those who love to dive into the tweaking of small things and on-track habits will notice gains, or at least changes, during times and overall results.

F1 23, beyond adjusting braking and vehicle weight, majored in minor things like finally letting players tweak race length settings and even upped the quality of control on a popular input like controller.

Those upgrades appear here again, with opponent A.I. also a strong suit. At times, especially early on while experimenting with the changes, it might feel unfair that the A.I. can rip-roar out of corners without missing a beat, but it's not a thing that lasts long once a player finds their groove.

Graphics and Presentation

One needs just a few seconds to understand that F1 24 has undergone a massive visual overhaul.

This time out, there are notable upgrades to lighting and shadows work, something really amplified by the expected dynamic weather and time of day systems. This, layered atop the coloring changes brought about last year, create one of the best-looking on-track games of any series.

Arguably more impressive is the update to player models. They look great by normal tech standards for the genre, but stunningly so when compared to last year's models because frankly, that was one area of the game that continued to have a last-gen feel.

It helps that the game has made tweaks, updating a chunk of the game's tracks. Better foilage and sheer density to the details around the track helps. These updates include details like revamped surfaces to match real-world changes. But it also extends to more authentic details to buildings around the track at Jeddah Corniche Circuit, for example.

The long-requested authentic radio calls work for and against immersion, though. While they are fantastic to have, real-world calls or not, they can get repetitive in a hurry.

Sheerly boosting immersion, though, are new cutscenes peppered throughout the experience. This includes better replays, which help to provide a more broadcast-styled experience while showing off the revamped graphical systems and details around tracks.

Career, F1 World and More

Not to beat the last year drum too much, but F1 23 received a ton of hype for the long-awaited return of the narrative-styled campaign dubbed Braking Point 2.

This year's game leans more into letting players insert themselves into the game—or play out alternate histories. Career in F1 24 lets players step into an established name's journey or start from scratch as a created racer, including a Formula 2 starting point.

While doing so, the Driver Recognition system that pays attention to player's actions on and off track can impact things like contract details, offers from teams and influence research and development. It's a fun system and it's nice to see the series continue to spread its wings and incorporate more of what it means to be a racer beyond events on the track.

Accolades are also flexible, from being tailored toward a real-world or legend's own career arc to a completely blank slate for created characters.

In a fantastic development, all of the single-player features extend to a two-player career, which lets players have a co-op experience on the same team—or position themselves as rivals on different teams.

Of note, driver rating seems to have a more prominent positon in career mode than in the past, which is really a welcome change—it's nice to have the constant feedback and rewarding to see a gradual improvement.

There's also a mode called Challenge Career. These are smaller scenario challenges and gameplay experiences with existing teams and global leaderboards. Notable is that player input and real-world happenings can influence what tasks players will encounter in Challenge Career over the course of the game's lifespan.

While it sounds like a small thing, this could be a welcome addition for many players who don't have the time or patience for live multiplayer events but still want to see how they stack up in those types of scenarios against other players.

F1 World again returns and loops in overarching progression atop vehicle and team customization while pursuing goals and seasonal events.

The sophomore effort of the mode debuts Fanzone, a cooperative, time-based element where players work alongside others to accomplish set goals and complete challenges. It's certainly a nice addition as something to grind and dial in more on a sense of community.

Podium Pass debuted last year and so did an online safety rating and it continues to be a strong part of the experience that helps curate an acceptable online environment that will be, in theory, free of griefing.

MyTeam also returns and runs the expected gamut of features, while the expected premium battle bass that even includes voicelines also makes the cut.

While premium passes still have understandable detractors, the always-something-to-earn nature of the pass and the strong player safety features combine at the right time as the series continues to reach a bigger audience.

Beyond the notable accessibility feature suite (including notables like field of view, etc.), this year's game has some interesting functionality via cross-platform multiplayer and an EA Racenet companion app that can provide data and player feedback on race performances.

And it should go without saying for the series at this point, but the game runs well and the list of tweakable settings is staggering. It's a boon for those who care, though the game manages to offer plenty of pick-up-play potential for the inexperienced, too.

Conclusion

Two of the biggest things F1 24 does—the reworked handling system and going back to a more traditional career—register as divisive, yet are ultimately successes.

Challenge Career, especially, is an underrated highlight of a package that has fallen a bit into the usual sports game cycle of not feeling dramatically different from year to year.

Even so, F1 24 is the best possible entry point for new players and the depth that put the game ahead of the pack in the first place remains for the hardcore crowd.

Indy 500 2024 Results: Josef Newgarden Defends Title; Kyle Larson Finishes 18th

The Indianapolis 500 was delayed four hours on Sunday due to inclement weather. Once it got started, it provided a familiar result.

Josef Newgarden won the 108th edition of the race, defending his title from a year ago. He narrowly held off Pato O'Ward and Alexander Rossi, passing O'Ward on the final lap to conclude a long and dramatic evening.

He became the first driver to win the event in back-to-back years since Hélio Castroneves in 2001-02.

Kyle Larson, who led with 20 laps remaining, ultimately finished 18th after a speeding penalty ruined his day:

He was attempting to become the fifth driver ever to run the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 in the same day. Tony Stewart is the only driver to ever successfully run every mile in both races in the same day.

The weather delay—which included pounding rains and whipping winds—will prevent Larson from fully participating in both races.

Sunday was quite the day on a number of fronts.

After the long weather delay, it didn't take long for the first crash of the evening, as several cars were taken out of commission in the very first lap.

Racers like Felix Rosenqvist, Colton Hera, Marco Andretti and Will Power would later see their races cut short:

Ryan Hunter-Reay also saw his race finish after he was bumped by Scott Dixon, which surprisingly didn't earn Dixon a penalty of any sort:

There was even drama in the pits:

But ultimately, the day belonged to Newgarden.

"I'm just so proud of the team. They crushed it," he said on the NBC broadcast after the race. "I mean, crushed it. They came here with the fastest cars. We worked our tails off,"

Monaco F1 Grand Prix 2024 Results: Ferrari's Charles Leclerc Earns 1st Win of Season

Charles Leclerc gave his compatriots something to celebrate as the Monte Carlo native won the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday.

This is his first victory since the 2022 season.

Leclerc crossed the finish line seven-plus seconds ahead of runner-up Oscar Piastri. Carlos Sainz earned the other podium place by holding off Lando Norris.

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton wound up in sixth and seventh respectively, with both being largely anonymous on the day.

Leclerc set the stage for his fans to have a nerve-racking Sunday after claiming the pole. That has offered no assurances about his final position in the past. He set the pace ahead of the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix but was unable to compete due to a crash in qualifying. He started in first place the very next year but wound up in fourth.

Because overtaking at Monaco is so difficult, the qualifying results offer a pretty good picture of how the race will ultimately finish. Still, Leclerc had to avoid any critical errors and the kind of bad luck that has doomed him in the past in his home country.

It didn't take long to see a reminder of how quickly a driver's day can change.

An already bad weekend for the Haas team got much worse Sunday.

On the very first lap, Kevin Magnussen made contact with Sergio Pérez and caused the Red Bull Racing driver to slam into the wall. The damage for Pérez was extensive and knocked him out of the race.

Magnussen was unable to continue as well, while teammate Nicolas Hülkenberg was collateral damage. There was a substantial delay as track officials cleared away all of the debris.

Considering he's only two points away from a race ban, Magnussen was very fortunate the FIA declined to scrutinize the crash any further. His status for the Canadian Grand Prix on June 9 appeared to be in jeopardy when the wreck first happened.

That wasn't the only on-track incident during the first lap.

Esteban Ocon got a DNF after colliding with teammate Pierre Gasly, which resulted in a grid penalty for the Canadian Grand Prix. Sainz was forced into the pits due to a punctured tire, but the lengthy stoppage allowed his team to repair the damage. He was permitted to restart in third place too.

The rest of the Monaco Grand Prix went on without any major controversies.

Formula One will now head to Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Verstappen is the two-time defending champion in the Canadian Grand Prix, and you'd certainly expect him to rebound in a big way following a forgettable weekend in Monaco.

Sergio Pérez Crashes Out of 2024 F1 Monaco Grand Prix on 1st Lap in Scary Video

It was a 2024 Monaco Grand Prix to forget for Sergio Pérez.

An opening-lap wreck ended the Red Bull driver's day. It wasn't just him, as Haas drivers Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg were also eliminated from Sunday's race because of the crash.

Magnussen and Perez made contact, which sent the latter into the wall and created a chaotic scene that Hulkenberg was unable to escape. While there was a lengthy suspension for the race on a red flag, none of the three drivers were able to participate upon the reset.

That wasn't the only incident on the opening lap, as Ferrari's Carlos Sainz went off because of a front-left tire puncture. However, he was able to restart in third place given the timing of the red flag for the crash involving Pérez.

What's more, Alpine teammates Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon collided. The latter was unable to continue in the race and ultimately took responsibility:

As for the crash involving Pérez and the Haas drivers, ESPN's Nate Saunders noted there was a bit of controversy in the stewards' decision that there would be no further investigation into the incident.

The decision was notable since Magnussen is just two penalty points away from a one-race ban.

Pérez's elimination was the most important development, as he is in third place in the drivers standings with 107 points. While he is well behind teammate Max Verstappen's 161 points, he entered Sunday's race just six points behind Ferrari's Charles LeClerc for second.

Red Bull also leads the constructor standings over Ferrari by 56 points but may see that gap close without one of its two drivers.

Pérez was coming off an eighth-place finish at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and crashed out of Sunday's race, so he will be firmly under the spotlight as he looks to bounce back in the Canadian Grand Prix on June 9.

(Photo by Jeffrey Brown/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)

The 2024 Indianapolis 500 starts with three cars from the same team on the front row.

Scott McLauglin won the pole for Sunday's race. He will be joined by Team Penske teammates Will Power and Josef Newgarden in the first three starting positions.

Power and Newgarden won the Indy 500 for Penske during its run over the last six years in which it won three times at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Starting at the front does not guarantee success in the race itself. Only one driver who started in the top three last year finished in the top five.

The Penske trio must hold off a field that includes six other Indy 500 champions and NASCAR champion Kyle Larson, who qualified in fifth for his first start in Indy Car.

The full starting grid and list of qualifying times can be found here on the Indy 500 website.

Race Preview

Penske had three of the four cars that got over an average speed of 233 miles per hour in Indy 500 qualifying.

All that means is that Penske has a fast set of cars on its hands, but now it needs to navigate the 500-mile, 200-lap race with superb racing and strategy.

A year ago, Newgarden only led five laps on his way to Victory Lane. No driver led more than 40 laps.

In 2022, Marcus Ericsson was in front for just 13 laps in his victory. Scott Dixon led for 95 of the 200 laps.

Power and Newgarden hold the edge over McLaughlin in experience because they have won the Indy 500 before.

McLaughlin finished in 29th, 20th and 14th in his three Indy 500 starts. He comes into Sunday with some mixed results on the IndyCar Series circuit this season. He has three top-10 finishes and two placings outside the top 25.

Alexander Rossi, Takuma Sato, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Helio Castroneves, Dixon and Ericsson are the other six previous champions in the field along with Power and Newgarden.

Dixon is third in the IndyCar Series standings and is the only member of that octet with a win on the circuit in five races so far this season.

Rossi and Dixon's higher-profile teammates could be the stars of the race. Alex Palou and Pato O'Ward have three wins this season between them and Palou leads the IndyCar Series standings.

Palou produced three straight top-10 finishes at Indy for Chip Ganassi Racing, while O'Ward did the same thing for Arrow McLaren Racing from 2020-23.

Larson is the wild-card in the pack on Sunday. The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion qualified fifth for the first leg of his attempted double. He will run the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte on Sunday night.

Larson is one of the most talented drivers in the world, and as we saw in qualifying, his talent shined through in an IndyCar machine. If he has strong race pace, Larson will contend with the IndyCar regulars for the race victory.
