Seth Rollins' New Stable and Biggest WWE Backlash 2025 Storylines

WrestleMania 41

WrestleMania 41 was a significant letdown for much of the WWE Universe, but there were some redeeming qualities that made the event memorable.

From Paul Heyman turning on CM Punk and Roman Reigns to John Cena stealing the Undisputed WWE Championship from Cody Rhodes, the groundwork for Backlash 2025 has been set, and fans are genuinely excited.

Here are the biggest storylines to watch heading into the next WWE premium live event on May 10.

Seth Rollins Tag Team Match

While much of WrestleMania 41 was a letdown, the alliance formed between Seth Rollins and Heyman was the biggest storyline coming out of the event, sans The Rock's no-show.

Bron Breakker joined the stable the following night on Raw, and the excitement level for the storyline is through the roof as thoughts turn to the possibility of more members waiting in the wings.

At Backlash, Rollins and Breakker will likely be tasked with taking down the two men The Visionary fought at WrestleMania: Roman Reigns and CM Punk.

With the tag team of Reigns and Punk unlikely to stay cohesive, Rollins and Breakker should be able to earn a marquee victory.

In addition to putting over the new stable, WWE could set the stage for an eventual feud between Punk and Reigns either immediately or further down the line.

John Cena's Old Foe

In one of the worst WrestleMania main events in recent memory, John Cena made history by winning his 17th world championship from Cody Rhodes.

As always, the first feud for the new holder of the undisputed WWE title is incredibly important.

Predictably, Triple H and WWE Creative went with the path of least resistance and booked Randy Orton to attack Cena on Raw, laying the groundwork for the champion's first title defense at Backlash in The Viper's hometown of St. Louis.

The problem for many fans is that Orton and Cena have fought so many times in the past—at least 10 times on pay-per-view alone—that there is a negative connotation with the matchup. Add in the fact that Cena will clearly win, and fans have a right to be less enthralled.

The saving grace of this storyline is that the roles are reversed. While the title win left a lot to be desired, Cena's run as a heel has been fun. On the other hand, Orton's run as a popular face doing whatever he wants has been enjoyable.

The fresh dynamic is interesting, but the match will be mediocre and the outcome is predictable.

Becky Lynch Heel Turn

Another aspect of WrestleMania that was a disappointment for fans was Bayley giving up her moment for Becky Lynch.

While the WWE Universe loves the returning star, the bad taste left over The Role Model's treatment killed the segment.

Even as Lynch and Lyra Valkyria won the tag team titles, the crowd's reaction wasn't at the level expected for a Superstar of The Man's caliber.

Lynch and Valkyria lost the titles after just one day, resulting in a brutal attack by the veteran on the up-and-comer.

Thus far, The Man's return has been lackluster at best.

The problem for WWE Creative now is that it has portrayed Valkyria as one of the company's brightest young stars, but there is little doubt she is taking the loss to Lynch at Backlash.

The two Irish Superstars will put on a show, but Valkyria could be buried after this feud.

Breaking Down WrestleMania 41's Main Event

The WrestleMania 41 card is absolutely stacked with talent, but all eyes are on the Night 2 main event between undisputed WWE champion Cody Rhodes and newly-heel challenger John Cena.

With the backdrop of Las Vegas, the entrances for both men will be grandiose. Rhodes already boasts a gaudy entrance spectacle, but the WrestleMania platform should take it to epic levels.

The same can be said for Cena as his entrance.

Once the two men finally enter the ring, wrestling fans should expect an epic stare down, like the one between Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania X8 or Johnson and Cena at WrestleMania 29.

After soaking in the crowd's reactions, the men will look horns in a traditional wrestling match, focusing on classic storytelling and building momentum. The egos associated with both men mean this portion of the bout will go on for too long for the lack of elite in-ring ability involved.

At some point, Rhodes will gain momentum and begin closing in on a victory. That's when The Rock returns to WWE programming and makes his grand WrestleMania entrance, coming to ringside to voice his support for Cena.

Johnson won't be able to stand on the sidelines for long without stealing the spotlight, but as soon as he gets physically involved, Roman Reigns and his advocate, Paul Heyman, will make their way to the ring to even the odds.

As Cena and Rhodes lay sprawled in the ring, The Rock and Reigns should have their own staredown, setting the stage for their epic encounter at WrestleMania 42. Before the two men get physical, though, Drew McIntyre should come through the crowd and attack Reigns.

Once Reigns is disposed of, McIntyre can brutally attack Rhodes, leaving him decimated in the ring. The Rock will call on McIntyre to exit the ring as Cena comes to his feet, setting the table for the future Hall of Famer to win his 17th championship.

Following the match, Cena, The Rock and McIntyre will stand tall in the ring as the camera pans to a distraught Rhodes. With Reigns also walking away disappointed, the win for Cena not only creates a memorable moment, but it also sets the stage for the build to WrestleMania 42.

Dream WrestleMania 41 Matches WWE Is Denying Fans

WrestleMania 40

For many fans, the build to WrestleMania 41 has been disappointing, with WWE's storytelling under Triple H in recent months leaving many fans yearning for the days of Vince McMahon.

Instead of getting meaningless Triple Threat matches and a midcard strategy that could be deemed passing at best, WWE Creative should have booked dream bouts hardcore wrestling fans would actually enjoy.

Here are the real dream matches Triple H should have booked for WrestleMania 41.

The Rock vs. Roman Reigns

WWE has teased tension between The Rock and his cousin, Roman Reigns, for years, dating back to their awkward reaction following the latter's win at the 2015 Royal Rumble.

The Bloodline storyline has been front and center in WWE in recent years, but the company wrongly decided to move away from it during the most critical time of the year. Instead of booking Reigns in a meaningless three-way battle, he should be taking on The Final Boss.

Reigns is a consistent main event performer who has taken the opportunities WWE presented and run with them. Even if he wins against CM Punk and Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 41, there is no growth for his character.

Reigns should be battling The Rock for the top spot in the family. The two men appeared to be on a collision course in all their previous interactions, and failing to capitalize on that momentum at WrestleMania 41 was criminal.

CM Punk vs. John Cena

When booking dream matches, one major caveat is that it's a first-time meeting. In this case, though, a newly heel John Cena should be taking on fan favorite CM Punk in the main event in Las Vegas this weekend.

Punk and Cena have a storied history, with the Summer of Punk and his win at Money in the Bank 2011 being one of the best moments in company history. This time, though, the meeting would see the roles reversed.

Triple H and Co. should have booked Punk to beat Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble, setting up the eventual bout between Cena and the new titleholder on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium.

What better way for Cena to win his 17th world championship than by beating Punk at WrestleMania and leaving through the crowd, just as Punk did to Cena all those years ago?

Rhea Ripley vs. Stephanie Vaquer

Ad Placeholder

On paper, Iyo Sky defending her Women's World Championship against Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair should be an incredible match, but the storyline leading into it has been lackluster at best.

Belair was heavily involved in a tag team with Naomi and Jade Cargill, while Ripley spent much of the last year tied up in a story featuring The Judgment Day. At the last moment, Triple H gives the title to Sky and shoehorns Belair into the equation.

For wrestling fans who favor better storytelling, this Triple Threat misses the mark.

Ripley should never have lost the championship to Sky and should instead be facing NXT Superstar Stephanie Vaquer.

Not only would the battle better highlight Vaquer and the entire NXT brand, but it would also give fans a matchup they've never seen before.

Ripley and Belair deserve so much better at WrestleMania.
