Johnny Manziel Injured for Zappers in FCF; Terrell Owens Gives Mic'd Up Commentary

Fan Controlled Football's Zappers, led by former NFL players Johnny Manziel and Terrell Owens, had a rough night against the Beasts on Saturday, dropping to 0-4 on the season with a 28-0 loss.
The Zappers lost Manziel to an unspecified injury early in the game, and he was replaced by Brian Allen. Manziel, the team's top quarterback, entered Saturday's game having complete 5-of-11 passes for 74 yards, in addition to four carries for eight yards and a touchdown.
— Fan Controlled Sports (@fancontrolled) May 7, 2022
Owens, meanwhile, didn't produce any highlight-reel plays without his quarterback, getting targeted just twice. However, he did provide some great commentary, even trying to convince NFL free-agent wide receiver Julio Jones to join the FCF.
— Fan Controlled Sports (@fancontrolled) May 8, 2022
After the game, Owens admitted falling to 0-4 on the season was "tough" and described some of the team's biggest challenges.
"I mean, it's tough when your top quarterback goes down, QB1 goes down," Owens said. "Obviously, like I said, not a lot of chemistry. Next guy gotta be ready to play, so other than that, it's just a lack of execution on our part."
Owens was also asked if he would request a trade from the Zappers with the team well out of playoff contention.
"I'm not sure," Owens said. "I'm not sure if that's an option. If it is, maybe I'll try to see what that's about. If not, like I said, we just have to regroup and just keep going."
— Fan Controlled Sports (@fancontrolled) May 8, 2022
Owens entered Saturday's game with eight catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns.
The NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver played for the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals from 1996 to 2010. He caught 1,078 passes for 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns in his career.

The 2022 Fan Controlled Football season continued Saturday, with all eight teams in action at Pullman Yards in Atlanta.
Bored Ape Football Club and Shoulda Been Stars opened the weekend undefeated, while Kingpins and Zappers each came into the day looking for their first victory of the season.
Here is a look at the results from all four games on the slate, which will be updated throughout the day.
Fan Controlled Football Week 4 Results
Bored Ape Football Club 28, Glacier Boyz 20 Knights of Degen 42, 8oki 18 Beasts 28, Zappers 0 Kingpins 28, SB Stars 18
Recap
Bored Ape Football Club continued its undefeated season Saturday, earning a 28-20 victory over Glacier Boyz.
The 4-0 squad dominated the early going and held a 28-6 lead before Glacier Boyz mounted a comeback thanks to the play of backup quarterback Chris Barrett, who replaced an injured Devlin Isadore.
— Fan Controlled Sports (@fancontrolled) May 7, 2022
Bored Ape FC was one of two remaining undefeated teams heading into this week, thanks in large part to a dominating offense that scored an FCF-high 96 points through three games. The defense stepped up its game in Week 4, highlighted by a scoop-and-score late in the second half.
— Fan Controlled Sports (@fancontrolled) May 7, 2022
The Glacier Boyz dropped to 1-3 on the season.
Knights of Degen showed little mercy toward 8oki as it rolled to a 42-18 victory. The score could've been a lot worse considering the Knights were up 30-18 at halftime.
Mitch Kidd brought 8oki to within four points before Ed Crouch ended the first half with a touchdown pass as time expired.
— Fan Controlled Sports (@fancontrolled) May 7, 2022
Knights of Degen lost its opening game to Bored Ape FC in the opening week but is now riding a three-game winning streak.
If you wanted to get a succinct summary of Saturday's clash between the Beasts and Zappers, this run by Jordus Smith does a pretty good job. Smith shook off multiple would-be tacklers en route to the end zone.
— Fan Controlled Sports (@fancontrolled) May 8, 2022
The Beasts rolled to a 28-0 shutout of the Zappers, handing their opponents their fourth successive defeat.
The Zappers fell victim to too many big plays. They were only a few seconds away from going into halftime down by one score. Instead, Alphonso Howard broke free for a long touchdown run to pad the Beasts' lead.
— Fan Controlled Sports (@fancontrolled) May 8, 2022
With the way their defense was performing, the Beasts didn't much from their offense in order to coast to victory.
Shoulda Been Stars are unbeaten no more as the Kingpins earned their first victory.
The Kingpins sealed the result in the final seconds of the second half. With his team clinging to a four-point lead, Daryl Virgies took the pitch and ran for the corner of the end zone. He got in with relative ease to make it a 10-point game.
It's a ten point game again here for the @FcfKingpins
— Fan Controlled Sports (@fancontrolled) May 8, 2022
From there, it was up to the defense to get a stop and preserve enough time for Jarman and the Shoulda Been Stars offense to get the go-ahead touchdown. Instead, Kingpins marched down the field to snap their losing streak.
Fan Controlled Football is heading into Week 4 of the 2022 season, also known as Season v2.0. The expanded eight-team league has brought back most of the same excitement, fun and novelty fans saw in Season 1, but with a bit of a twist...

While much of the football world was focused squarely on the events unfolding in Las Vegas, Fan Controlled Football offered quite the change of pace from the 2022 NFL draft Saturday.
FCF entered into the third week of its 2022 season with a quartet of games spread across the day.
Despite being such a relatively early juncture, only two teams remained unbeaten through two games: Bored Ape FC and SB Stars. At the other end of the spectrum, both the Kingpins and Zappers were looking for their first win, with the former matching up against Bored Ape FC.
Here's a look at how the action unfolded.
FCF Week 3 Results
8oki def. Beasts, 44-38 (OT)
Bored Ape FC def. Kingpins, 28-20
SB Stars def. Glacier Boyz, 28-26
Knights of Degen def. Zappers, 36-34
FCF Week 3 Recap
8oki and the Beasts were unable to determine a winner in regulation.
8oki trailed by eight points with 19 seconds left in the second half. As he dropped back, Mitch Kidd was nearly on his own goal line when he heaved the ball toward Joseph Boykin. Boykin not only fought off his defender but also maintained his balance down the sideline before hitting pay dirt.
Both teams scored on their opening possessions of overtime. Malcolm Ballard made what proved to be the breakthrough for the victory. The 8oki running back was on the way down but didn't hit the turf as he rolled over a Beasts player into the end zone.
It was a tough outcome for the Beasts, who couldn't capitalize on the 10-point lead they built in the first half. In a play that would echo the end of the second half, Kidd found Boykin over the middle with less than 20 seconds until halftime to help 8oki claw back.
All of that work was quickly undone, and they were relegated to their second defeat in three weeks.
Bored Ape FC maintained its perfect record by taking down the Kingpins 28-20.
With 6:28 left in the game, Collin Andrews hauled in a pass on a crossing route and piled up the YAC as he hit the sideline and surged toward the end zone. That allowed the Kingpins to tie the score at 20-all.
The score remained deadlocked as the game entered the last minute. On 1st-and-goal, Deondre Francois quickly surveyed the defense before tucking the ball on a quarterback draw. The former Florida State star patiently waited for a path to the score.
Bored Ape FC is certainly a formidable outfit with the 6'1" signal-caller at the helm.
Drama was once again the order of the day as SB Stars' late heroics improved their record to 3-0.
On 1st-and-10 with less than three minutes remaining, Brycen Alleyne took the handoff and scampered into the end zone as the Glacier Boyz jumped ahead 28-22. Alleyne displayed the vision that helped him run for 646 yards and five touchdowns in 2018 at Delaware State.
— Fan Controlled Sports (@fancontrolled) May 1, 2022
That still left SB Stars with plenty of time to deal the decisive blow.
Just nine seconds were on the clock when Slade Jarman took the snap out of the shotgun. Flushed from the pocket, he scrambled to his right and ran up the field. With a final dive into the end zone, Jarman put SB Stars into the lead with four seconds to spare.
— Fan Controlled Sports (@fancontrolled) May 1, 2022
It was quite a turnaround as the Glacier Boyz were up 20-14 with the ball inside the five-minute mark of the second half. A fumble by Alleyne proved costly as it allowed SB Stars back into the contest.
Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens and the Zappers played Knights of Degen in the nightcap.
Despite Owens scoring a first-half touchdown, the Knights of Degen pulled through with a 36-34 win after making a late defensive stop.
Owens' three-yard touchdown gave the Zappers a 12-6 lead.

— Fan Controlled Sports (@fancontrolled) May 1, 2022
For much of the game, though, this was a battle between quarterbacks as Knights of Degen's Ed Crouch and the Zappers' Kelly Bryant dominated the game.
Bryant, the former Clemson quarterback, had a pair of second-half touchdown runs, and he later found ex-Dallas Cowboys wideout Terrance Williams with a dime down the sideline:

The Zappers had the ball in the final minute down 36-34 with a chance to win the game, but the Knights of Degen registered a sack with no time remaining.

The Knights of Degen improved to 2-1, and the Zappers fell to 0-3 with the loss.

The second season (season v2.0) of Fan Controlled Football is rolling along into Week 3 this weekend. However, things are getting a bit more serious at this point in the season.
After having weekly redrafts to construct new rosters for the first two games, the Week 3 draft is particularly significant because all quarterbacks and skill position players will be locked into their teams for the remainder of the season. Offensive-line and defensive units will continue to be shuffled, as drafts going forward will only be two rounds starting in Week 4.
Fans hoping to check out the action in Week 3 have multiple options from FCF's long list of streaming partners. They can also get in on the play-calling by downloading the FCF App.

The rules of FCF are quite different from traditional American football and other indoor leagues, so it's worth a refresher even three weeks into the season.
Starting lineups consist of seven players, featuring one quarterback, three skill players (wide receivers, slot receivers and running backs) and three-man offensive lines. In weekly redrafts, quarterbacks and skill players are drafted individually, while offensive lines and defenses are taken as units.
Games are played on a 50-yard indoor field with offenses beginning on their own 10-yard line to drive 40 yards to the end zone. There are also no kicks in FCF, meaning no field goals or punts. Games are expected to fit into a one-hour window, so there's a running clock—except in the last 30 seconds of the half and overtime.
There are a slew of rules that are unique to FCF. A game's opening possession is decided by rock, paper, scissors instead of a coin toss. All extra points are two-point conversions by default, and they feature a one-on-one battle between a receiver and defensive back from the five-yard line while the quarterback has just four seconds to throw the ball.
Speaking of quarterbacks, teams are required to insert their backup signal-callers in at least one out of three possessions (barring injury). This added a little extra to think about during each weekly redraft, considering it wouldn't be wise to wait until the last round to select a backup quarterback because of how much they will be expected to play.
FCF is in the midst of a seven-week schedule, which will culminate with the playoffs and championship game.
The full season schedule, per DAZN, is as follows:
Week 3: Saturday, April 30
Week 4: Saturday, May 7
Week 5: Saturday, May 14
Week 6: Saturday, May 21
Week 7: Saturday, May 28

Johnny Manziel Connects with Terrell Owens as Zappers Lose to Glacier Boyz in FCF

The Zappers lost to the Glacier Boyz 44-6 in Week 2 of Fan Controlled Football, but former NFLers Johnny Manziel and Terrell Owens proved they've got a significant connection brewing.
Manziel ran out of the pocket and threw across his body to find Owens deep, just short of the end zone.
JOHNNY MANZIEL THROWS ACROSS HIS BODY ON THE MOVE TO TERRELL OWENS.
Later in the night, Manziel and Owens were caught on camera chatting it up on the sidelines in what was one of the most memorable moments of the evening for the Zappers.
Owens, a Hall of Famer, suited up for the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals over his 15-year career from 1996 to 2010. The 48-year-old caught 1,078 passes for 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns in that span.
Manziel was a 2014 first-round pick but struggled to find his footing in the NFL and was out of the league following the 2015 season. That said, he was a prolific college quarterback at Texas A&M, so there's no surprise he's made some dazzling plays in the FCF.
As the weeks continue, Manziel and Owens will only deepen their connection, though it really won't pay off unless they start winning games. Hopefully next week the duo can link up more consistently to help the Zappers get their first win of the year.

Week 2 of the 2022 Fan Controlled Football league took center stage Saturday, and it featured two matchups between undefeated teams.
The first of those matchups pitted 1-0 Bored Ape Football Club against 1-0 8oki Football Club in a game that saw Bored Apes prevail by a 32-14 score.
Fans also eagerly anticipated the FCF debut of quarterback Johnny Manziel and wide receiver Terrell Owens as teammates for Zappers against the Glacier Boyz.
While T.O. played for Zappers last week and scored a touchdown, the Pro Football Hall of Famer didn't yet have Johnny Football throwing him passes until this week.
Here is a full rundown of Saturday's Week 2 FCF results, along with analysis regarding each of the four games on the schedule.
FCF Week 2 Scores/Schedule
Bored Ape Football Club def. 8oki Football Club, 32-14
Knights of Degen def. Kingpins, 28-8
Glacier Boyz def. Zappers, 44-6
Shoulda Been Stars def. Beasts, 24-6
FCF Week 2 Recap
Shoulda Been Stars 24, Beasts 6
Thanks to an outstanding performance by LaDarius Galloway, Shoulda Been Stars had no problem beating Beasts 24-6 to run their record to 2-0 in the early going this season.
Galloway had one of the best touchdown passes you will ever see from a running back. He was nearly parallel to the ground when he released the ball and it fell into the waiting arms of Travalle Calvin.
The game was tied 6-6 late in the first half until Galloway nearly broke a defender's ankles with a cutback to find the end zone and put SB Stars up by six.
Beasts lone score of the game came early in the first half thanks to Quinn Porter. The former St. Louis Rams running back took a toss, cutback to the other side of the field and ran into the end zone from five yards out.
Galloway scored the first touchdown of the game with another terrific play. The Tennessee-Martin alum hurdled a defender to get into the end zone to give SB Stars a 6-0 lead.
SB Stars and Bored Ape FC are the only remaining unbeaten teams in the league after two weeks.
Glacier Boyz 44, Zappers 6
The Zappers team led by Johnny Manziel and Terrell Owens had another rough outing, as they were blown out 44-6 by the Glacier Boyz.
Zappers' first play from scrimmage was an omen of things to come. Quarterback Brian Allen scrambled for a gain of about 10 yards, but he lost the ball on his way to the ground and turned it over.
The Zappers were almost able to get six points thanks to the Manziel-Owens connection. The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner spun away from the Glacier Boyz defense and threw across his body to a wide-open Owens, who was stopped just short of the end zone.
Early in the game, Manziel did score a touchdown on a designed run.
This marks the second consecutive loss for the Zappers. Shoulda Been Stars beat them 20-12 last week in the season opener.
Glacier Boyz rebounded from last week's 36-20 loss to Beasts and earn their first victory of the season. They will take on Shoulda Been Stars next week.
Zappers will go head-to-head with Beasts in Week 3.
Bored Ape Football Club 32, 8oki Football Club 14
Led by former Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois, Bored Ape Football Club became the first 2-0 team in FCF this season by defeating 8oki Football Club 32-14.
Before Bored Apes pulled away in the second half, Francois and 8oki quarterback Mitch Kidd were going shot for shot in the opening half.
Kidd opened the scoring with a quarterback sweep to the right side, but Francois answered with the nearly the same play shortly thereafter:
Then, on the ensuing drive, Kidd showed off his improvisational skills by evading pass-rushers for a big gain down the field and then doing the same on a touchdown pass to former University of Hawai'i wide receiver Cedric Byrd:
Francois tightened things up near the end of the first half, though, with a bullet of a pace to former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrance Williams for a touchdown, which cut the deficit to two points:
Williams was perhaps the most accomplished player in the game, as he was a third-round pick by the Cowboys in the 2013 NFL draft out of Baylor.
He played for Dallas from 2013 to 2018 and had a career-best season in 2015 with 52 receptions for 840 yards and three touchdowns.
Francois, who had 44 total touchdowns in three seasons at FSU, put Bored Apes in control early in the second half with a short pass to wide receiver Maurice Thomas, which was taken the distance for a touchdown:
With that, Bored Ape FC essentially established itself as the team to beat during the early going of the FCF season.
Knights of Degen 28, Kingpins 8
Another spectacular quarterback performance ruled the day in the second FCF game of Week 2 with Knights of Degen signal-caller Ed Crouch making plays both through the air and on the ground.
Crouch needed less than three minutes of game time to put the Knights ahead thanks to a quarterback run to the right for a touchdown:
While Crouch has done no shortage of damage with his legs through two weeks of the FCF campaign, he showcased the ability to make the opposition pay with his arm as well.
With the Knights up 6-0, Crouch extended the lead on a 30-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Yedidiah Lewis:
The Knights of Degen's defense made a major impact in the game also with defensive lineman Nate Bresson picking up a fumble on the first play of the second half and walking into the end zone:
With the Knights leading 28-0 and trending toward the first shutout of the FCF season, the Kingpins managed to at least make it look more respectable late in the second half.
With less than five minutes remaining, the Kingpins finally got on the board thanks to a long touchdown pass from Tirri Jones to Eterrious Giles:
That score was merely cosmetic, though, as the Knights still managed to close out a lopsided 28-8 triumph.
The Knights of Degen bounced back from a narrow four-point loss last week to improve their record to 1-1, while the Kingpins became the first 0-2 team this season.
The second season (season v2.0) of Fan Controlled Football kicked off last weekend, and it brought plenty of entertainment and excitement. It also saw the professional return of Terrell Owens , who scored a touchdown in his FCF debut...
Terrell Owens Scores Late TD for Johnny Manziel's Zappers in FCF Debut
Apr 17, 2022
ATLANTA, GEORGIA - APRIL 16: Terrell Owens #81 of the Zappers warms up prior to the Fan Controlled Football League game against the Shoulda Been Stars on April 16, 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Todd Kirkland/Fan Controlled Football/Getty Images)
Terrell Owens has six Pro Bowl selections, five All-Pro nods and three different seasons when he led the league in touchdown receptions on his Hall of Fame resume.
Now he has a touchdown in Fan Controlled Football as well.
THE YEAR? 2022. THE TOUCHDOWN SCORER? TERRELL OWENS.
While Owens' Zappers lost 20-12 in Saturday's game against the Shoulda Been Stars, his presence on the field was the biggest storyline. After all, it's not every day someone who is third on the NFL's all-time list with 15,934 receiving yards and 153 touchdown catches lines up for a team named the Zappers.
His touchdown came right near the end of the game after his team had fallen behind by multiple scores, but he looked the part of a Hall of Famer by elevating and high-pointing a pass in the end zone.
Yet even before he found the end zone, the all-time great was filling the role of veteran leader with his new teammates:
Owens suited up for the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals from 1996 through 2010 during a legendary career and believed he could still play in the NFL as recently as last year.
The 48-year-old told TMZ Sports in August, "There's no doubt, 100 percent, that I can play in the National Football League today."
That may be a stretch at this point, but he is at least providing some star power to the Fan Controlled Football league. He's not the only one either, as former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is one of the team owners.
If Owens continues to haul in touchdowns like he did in Saturday's season opener, he will remain appointment viewing in the league.

Fan Controlled Football's second season began Saturday with a four-game slate that featured the Beasts' 36-20 win over the Glacier Boyz to kick off the festivities.
The day also included Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens' return to professional football.
The 48-year-old Owens, who is third all-time on the NFL's career receiving yards and receiving touchdown lists, is suiting up for the Zappers. He had only one catch but made it count with a leaping touchdown as time ran out in a 20-12 loss.
Johnny Manziel, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner and former Cleveland Browns quarterback, is also on that team. However, he did not play on Saturday.
Other stars of the day included 20-year-old Qwan'Tez Stiggers, who had three interceptions (including a pick-six) for the Beasts. Running back Jakobie Baker also scored four touchdowns for Bored Ape FC.
Here's a look at all the Week 1 action.
Week 1 Scores and Schedule
Beasts 36, Glacier Boyz 20
Bored Ape FC 36, Knights of Degen 32
Shoulda Been Stars 20, Zappers 12
8oki Football Club 28, Kingpins 26
Beasts 36, Glacier Boyz 20
Stiggers was unstoppable Saturday, and his pick-six gave the Beasts a 26-14 lead.
The Glacier Boyz trailed 28-20 after the third Jamiel score and were driving down the field in the final minute, but Mike Lee sealed this game with the Beasts' fourth interception and second pick-six:
Knights of Degen took the lead with a Terelle West rushing touchdown with 56 seconds left for a 30-28 lead. They got the two-point conversion for the 32-28 edge.
Bored Ape FC responded with the game-winning score, though. They sealed the win with an interception in the end zone off a desperation Knights of Degen Hail Mary as time expired.
Shoulda Been Stars 20, Zappers 12
A defensive slugfest ended with Shoulda Been Stars taking home the win, 20-12.
Shun'Cee Thomas opened the scoring for the Zappers with this rushing touchdown.
LaDarius Galloway got Shoulda Been Stars on the board with a rushing touchdown of his own. After a successful two-pointer, Shoulda Been Stars took the lead.
The Zappers ended the game on a high note, though, as Owens went up high for the TD.
8oki Football Club 28, Kingpins 26
While Owens was the day's biggest storyline, he wasn't the grand finale.
The final game of the slate featured a showdown between the 8oki Football Club against Kingpins, and the latter found paydirt first with a quarterback keeper and impressive touchdown throw to end the half:
That seemed to be enough for the 8oki Football Club to start the season on the right foot, but Kingpins came charging back with two late touchdowns.
It was fitting that Foot played the role of hero, and his final pass in the final two seconds went right into his receiver's hands for the game-winning touchdown.
