After being waived on Sunday to make room for Landry Shamet on the roster, Matt Ryan has now re-signed with the New York Knicks on a two-way deal after clearing waivers.

In a corresponding move, the Knicks waived guard Boo Buie.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype previously reported the Knicks' intentions to re-sign Ryan to a two-way deal.

Ryan was a local star who grew up in New York. He was born in White Plains and starred at Iona Prep in New Rochelle, where he became Mr. New York Basketball and was named a first-team Parade All-American.

Ryan is a well-traveled hooper who played college ball at three schools (Notre Dame, Vanderbilt and Chattanooga) and has suited up for five NBA teams (Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans and Knicks) in his four NBA seasons. He's also played for five G-League teams.

The 27-year-old has only averaged 10.4 minutes over his 72 games, but he's shot 39.7 percent from three-point range during that time, posting 4.1 PPG in the process. Ryan hasn't played much with the Knicks this year (45 minutes over nine games).

There may not be room for Ryan to carve out playing time on the active roster at the moment, but he'll certainly be getting time with the G-League's Westchester Knicks with the two-way deal.

The New York Knicks are reportedly adding depth to their backcourt by bringing back a veteran guard.

Per ESPN's Shams Charania, the Knicks have agreed to a deal with guard Landry Shamet, who spent the preseason with the team before suffering a shoulder injury that caused him to be waived. New York announced that it waived forward Matt Ryan in a corresponding move.

Charania noted that Shamet "was considered a lock to make the regular season roster prior to" suffering a dislocated shoulder in a preseason game. He spent the last week playing for the Knicks' G League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks, and averaged 11 points per game.

A seven-year veteran, Shamet was the No. 26 pick in the 2018 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers during his rookie season, and he also played for the Brooklyn Nets and Phoenix Suns before spending the 2023-24 campaign with the Washington Wizards. He has a career average of 8.7 points while shooting 38.5 percent from beyond the arc, and he's also a strong defender who can guard multiple positions.

Shamet is joining a Knicks team that is ranked third in the Eastern Conference with an 18-10 record. New York has won each of its last three games and is ranked seventh in offense with 116.5 points per game and sixth in defense with 109.4 points allowed per game. The team will be back in action on Monday against the Toronto Raptors (7-21).

Ryan appeared in nine games for the Knicks this season and averaged 1.7 points in limited action. He's also played for the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves and New Orleans Pelicans during his four-year career.

New York Knicks guard Josh Hart had some fun at the expense of his teammates after the Washington Commanders secured a 36-33 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Hart, a Commanders fan, called out Knicks stars Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, who are both Eagles fans, in a post on X.

Washington trailed 27-14 through three quarters against Philadelphia, but Jayden Daniels continued his impressive rookie season as he found Jamison Crowder for a game-winning touchdown with six seconds remaining in the fourth.

Daniels finished 24-of-39 for 258 yards and a career-high five touchdowns to go along with two interceptions.

The Knicks teammates exchanged some trash talk throughout the course of the game, starting with Hart and Towns prior to the opening kickoff.

The Eagles opened the game with 14 straight points and took an early 21-7 lead, resulting in Brunson having some fun with his backcourt partner.

After Washington came back, Hart continued his attempts to contact Brunson and Towns.

The victory allowed the Commanders to improve to 10-5, putting them two wins above the Seattle Seahawks (8-6) and Atlanta Falcons (8-7) for the final playoff spot in the NFC.

A 10-game win streak for Philadelphia was snapped, falling to 12-3 on the season as a whole. The Eagles have already clinched a playoff spot, but the health of quarterback Jalen Hurts is something to monitor moving forward after he exited Sunday's contest with a concussion.

As for Hart, the 29-year-old is in the midst of a career year in New York. Through 27 games, he's averaging 14.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game on 58.7/39.8/81.0 shooting splits.

Towns and Brunson have also thrived in their first season as teammates following a blockbuster trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves, helping the Knicks win 14 of their past 19 games to sit at No. 3 in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 18-10.

After the Commanders' improbable victory over their NFC East rivals, Hart made sure to rub it in the faces of New York's star duo.

The New York Knicks defeated the Zion-less New Orleans Pelicans 104-93 on Saturday night, led by a standout performance from Jalen Brunson, extending their road-winning streak to five games.

Brunson capped off the night with a season-high 39 points, six assists and two steals, shooting an impressive 13-of-19 from the field and 70 percent from beyond the arc in the win. Mikal Bridges contributed 18 points, three assists and two steals to the effort.

On the opposing side, Trey Murphy III led the Pelicans with 26 points, six rebounds, and two assists, shooting 11-of-18 from the field.

Zion Williamson has not played since Nov. 6 due to a hamstring injury, as the Pelicans dropped to 5-24 on the season.

Fans flooded social media to praise Brunson's impressive performance as the Knicks improved to 18-10.

In true fashion, Brunson started the scoring with a three-point shot off an assist from Karl-Anthony Towns. The first half closed with two free throws from Josh Hart, as the Knicks trailed 45-49 entering halftime.

Brunson ignited the Knicks' comeback in the third quarter with a 36-foot three-pointer, helping them take a 78-75 lead into the fourth. The Knicks outscored the Pelicans 26-18 in the final period and Towns hit a hook shot with just under two minutes left to put the Knicks up by eleven, effectively sealing the win and ending any hopes of a Pelicans comeback.

The Knicks will face the Toronto Raptors at home on Monday as they aim to extend their win-streak to four straight.

KAT Reflects on Knicks-Wolves Trade: 'I'm Still Stunned I'm in a Different Jersey'

Karl-Anthony Towns' return to Minnesota brought back some emotions for the 29-year-old.

The New York Knicks center had 32 points and 20 rebounds in the Knicks' 133-107 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. It was his first game against the team he spent the first nine seasons of his career with and he acknowledged that he is still "stunned" he was traded during the preseason.

"There was no part of me that was willing to leave," Towns said, per Jon Krawczynski and James L. Edwards of The Athletic. "And life had a different path for me. I was stunned. I'm still stunned I'm in a different jersey."

Towns has been a welcome addition in New York, averaging 25.0 points, 14.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists across 25 games. That robust production has helped the Knicks get off to a 17-10 start, with the team looking like a formidable contender in the Eastern Conference.

The Timberwolves dropped to 14-12 on the season and are clearly missing Towns' presence. Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo were the headline pieces that were shipped to Minnesota in the deal, and while they were impactful in the game, with 24 and 15 points respectively, neither was as dominant as Towns was.

Towns and the Knicks will be back in action on Saturday against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Karl-Anthony Towns couldn't have dreamed up a much better return to Minnesota than what he authored on Thursday night.

The star big man lit up the Timberwolves in his first visit to the Target Center since he was traded to the New York Knicks, putting up 32 points, 20 rebounds and six assists in a 133-107 win.

KAT wasn't chucking up prayers with a vendetta in mind, either—he was 10-of-12 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the arc. This was peak efficiency.

Mikal Bridges added 29 points, six assists and six rebounds for the Knicks, while Julius Randle did his best to stick it to his former team, posting 24 points. Anthony Edwards had a tougher night, finishing with 17 points and seven assists.

But the night belonged to KAT, who had 19 points alone in a blistering second quarter that saw the Knicks outscore their hosts by a 41-18 margin, and fans and pundits alike enjoyed the show:

Towns is adjusting nicely to life alongside Jalen Brunson, Bridges and OG Anunoby, as the Knicks are off to a 17-10 start, good for third in the Eastern Conference. The Wolves have struggled a bit to jell behind a core of Edwards, Randle and Rudy Gobert, meanwhile, and are now 14-12 on the season.

Despite being traded, however, Towns told reporters before the game that being back in Minnesota and in the Target Center gave him a "warm feeling" and that he has continued tracking the team's results this season.

"I'm an avid Timberwolves fan, so I watch a lot of the games when I get a chance," he said. "They're still my brothers. They're still my guys. Just because a trade happened, doesn't mean I lost love for them. The brotherhood is always going to be there."

He also said he misses the city of Minnesota.

"Of course," he told reporters. "I was here nine years. That's a long time I had called this place home."

The Target Center is no longer home, of course, but Towns played like he owned the place on Thursday.

New York Knicks big man Karl-Anthony Towns is returning to play in Minnesota for the first time since the Timberwolves traded the franchise cornerstone last September.

Towns chatted with reporters Thursday before the Knicks game and spoke about the "warm feeling" he had walking back into the Target Center before acknowledging that the return would be a "lot" when weighing the emotions of the night.

"I know it's going to be a lot," Towns said with a laugh and a smile (h/t ESPN's Jamal Collier). "But just appreciate every second, every moment and appreciate being back here."

Minnesota selected the ex-Kentucky star with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft. Towns made four All-Star Games and two All-NBA teams during his nine seasons in Minnesota while averaging 22.9 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.

Obviously, it's understandable why Towns would be emotional upon his return to Minneapolis. He went through tremendous ups and downs during his time there, but Minnesota was on a huge high last year after winning 56 games and making the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2004 and the second time in franchise history.

A few months later, Towns got traded in a seismic shake-up of the team.

He's excelling in his new spot, though, averaging 24.8 points, an NBA-high 13.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game for a Knicks team sitting third in the Eastern Conference. Towns looks well on his way to a fifth All-Star appearances and third All-NBA team nod.

A part of him will always be in Minnesota, though, even if his time there is up. ESPN's Brian Windhorst explained.

New York and Minnesota are set to tip off in Target Center on Thursday at 9:30 p.m. ET, with TNT carrying the game.

New York Knicks center Jericho Sims hasn't seen much action this season, and some around the league reportedly believe he could be available before the Feb. 6 trade deadline.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, sources said Sims "has played fleeting minutes of late in Tom Thibodeau's rotation, leading the former Texas center to be considered a trade candidate to monitor by rival executives."

The Knicks don't have much depth behind star center Karl-Anthony Towns, as Mitchell Robinson remains sidelined while recovering from offseason ankle surgery. Stein noted that the team "has already gauged Robinson's trade value dating back to this time last season."

Sims has played in 24 out of New York's 26 games with two starts and he's averaging 12.5 minutes per game along with 1.8 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 70.4 percent from the field. After entering the NBA as a second-round pick in the 2021 NBA draft, the only time the fourth-year center has averaged over 15 minutes a game in his career was the 2022-23 season.

At 16-10, the Knicks are beginning to emerge as one of the top contenders in the Eastern Conference. The team has won six of its last eight games and ranks sixth in the NBA in point differential at +6.2.

Towns, who was acquired in an offseason trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves, has been dominant with averages of 24.8 points, a league-leading and career-high 13.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.0 blocks in 24 games. He's found a groove alongside star point guard Jalen Brunson, who leads New York with 25.0 points and 7.7 assists per game.

The Knicks will be facing Towns' former Timberwolves team on Thursday at 9:30 p.m. ET on TNT.

The acquisition of star center Karl-Anthony Towns has already paid dividends for the New York Knicks, and many around the NBA are starting to take notice.

"Stuff is coming so much easier for them than it did last year," an Eastern Conference scout told ESPN's Chris Herring of the Knicks' 16-10 start to the season. "We knew the spacing would be better with Towns, but I didn't think they'd be humming like this so quickly."

After spending the first nine seasons of his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Towns was sent to the Knicks this past offseason in a blockbuster trade. The two teams are set to face each other for the first time this season on Thursday night.

The New Jersey native has excelled in his return to the East Coast with averages of 24.8 points, a league-leading and career-high 13.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.0 blocks across 24 appearances. Towns had averaged under 22 points in each of his last two seasons in Minnesota, and he hadn't averaged a double-double since the 2020-21 campaign.

Behind Towns' hot start, the Knicks rank sixth in the NBA with a +6.2 point differential. After back-to-back second-round exits from the playoffs in the last two years, New York looks poised to contend for a title this season.

Towns will get the chance to show his old team what it's missing when the Knicks take on the Timberwolves (14-11) at the Target Center at 9:30 p.m. ET on TNT.

Dick Van Arsdale, a three-time NBA All-Star who played for the New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns, died at the age of 81, the Suns announced Monday on social media.

Van Arsdale was a standout at Indiana from 1962 to 1965, earning All-American honors alongside his twin brother Tom. He averaged 17.2 points and 10 rebounds per game during his three seasons with the Hoosiers.

He was selected by the New York Knicks in the second round of the 1965 NBA draft and put up 12.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game to earn NBA All-Rookie Team honors.

After three seasons with the Knicks, Van Arsdale was the Phoenix Suns' first selection in the 1968 expansion draft, earning him the nickname "Original Sun." His first year in Phoenix saw him land on his first All-Star team as he put up 21 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. He was named an All-Star over the next two seasons as well and landed on the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 1974.

Van Arsdale retired after the 1976-77 season, totaling 15,079 points, 3,807 rebounds and 3,057 assists across his 12 years in the league. He was the Suns' all-time leading scorer when he retired.

After retiring, Van Arsdale stayed connected with the Suns, serving as their general manager and senior vice president of player personnel, interim head coach in 1987 and as a television and radio color commentator.

Van Arsdale was inducted into the Suns' Ring of Honor in 1999 and has his jersey number retired by the organization.
