The Oklahoma City Thunder still haven't lost in these playoffs.

The Western Conference's top seed defeated the Dallas Mavericks 117-95 in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series on Tuesday at Paycom Center. OKC's youth, talent and overall depth was on full display throughout the contest, especially as it put things away with a dominant fourth quarter.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 29 points, nine assists and nine rebounds, but it was a balanced effort with Chet Holmgren (19 points, seven rebounds and three blocks), Jalen Williams (18 points, five assists and five rebounds) and Aaron Wiggins (16 points) providing important support.

Luguentz Dort and Cason Wallace also impressed guarding Luka Dončić, who was limited to 6-of-19 shooting from the field.

NBA fans had nothing but good things to say about the entire winning performance:

The headliners in this series are clear with Gilgeous-Alexander and Dončić both MVP finalists, but it was far from a one-on-one show. OKC seized a nine-point halftime lead in part because Wiggins and Jaylin Williams provided a spark off the bench while Holmgren scored on the inside.

Throw in Gilgeous-Alexander consistently getting to the free-throw line, and it seemed like the Thunder were in control.

Yet a Dallas run was inevitable, and Kyrie Irving picked up the slack for Dončić in the third quarter by hitting from the outside, getting into transition and working his way into the lane. But even that momentum as the visitors cut the deficit to one was short-lived with the Thunder making everything difficult.

Holmgren protected the rim and Dort swarmed Dončić's ball-handling and got in the star's face on seemingly every shot. His steal on Dončić led to a dunk for Jalen Williams during a stretch that saw Isaiah Joe, Dort, Holmgren and Gilgeous-Alexander drill three-pointers as the lead expanded to double digits again going into the fourth.

It was then Jalen Williams' turn to take over in the fourth quarter, and he scored 10 consecutive points for the home team when the game was still somewhat hanging in the balance.

It was a fitting stretch because this Thunder team is so much more than just Gilgeous-Alexander's star power. Dallas had no chance with Dončić struggling with his shot, but OKC's supporting cast of Williams, Wiggins, Wallace and Dort were all critical in the win.

The Mavericks will have a better chance if Dončić plays at an MVP level in Thursday's Game 2, but the Thunder were clearly the better team from top to bottom in the opening battle.

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his wife Hailey celebrated the birth of their first child Ares Alexander on April 25.

Gilgeous-Alexander shared the news Tuesday on Instagram.

Gilgeous-Alexander and his wife Hailey Summers, a former University of Albany soccer player, were married on February 14.

Ares Alexander was born between Game 2 and Game 3 of the Thunder's first-round sweep of the New Orleans Pelicans.

A finalist for NBA MVP, Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 27.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists through four games to help lead Oklahoma City to the second round.

The Thunder will next play the winner of the tied first-round series between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Dallas Mavericks.

Like Fred VanVleet, who celebrated the birth of his son Fred Jr. while helping the Toronto Raptors to victory in the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals, Gilgeous-Alexander will now hope to celebrate his new fatherhood with a run to the NBA title.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are moving on to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 2016 after beating the New Orleans Pelicans 97-89 Monday night.

The Thunder controlled the first three games of the series before a tightly contested Game 4. Ultimately, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led Oklahoma City past the Pelicans with a late 18-2 run. Gilgeous-Alexander finished the game with 24 points and 10 rebounds, and Jalen Williams added 24.

Not only is it Oklahoma City's first series win since the Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook era, it's just the second series sweep in franchise history, with the other being in 2012 when the Thunder reached the Finals.

After the win, fans praised the Thunder for taking care of business against the No. 8 seed.

Now Oklahoma City will await the winner of the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Clippers. The series is currently tied at two games apiece, and the Thunder will have plenty of time to rest and scout their future opponent after picking up the sweep.

The Thunder are one of the youngest teams in the league, but they looked like a veteran group in Round 1 and were rewarded with a sweep.

The Oklahoma City Thunder took a commanding 3-0 series lead over the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday, winning Game 3 by the final score of 106-85.

After leading by four points at the end of the opening quarter, the Thunder did not fall behind throughout the rest of the game. New Orleans cut the deficit to just one point in the second quarter, although Oklahoma City quickly responded with an impressive 14-0 run before holding a 60-46 advantage at the half.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continued to produce in the playoffs, dropping 24 points and dishing out eight assists in 37 minutes of action. He held his own on the defensive end of the floor as well, racking up four steals.

He received some help from Jalen Williams, as the 23-year-old wing added 21 points and nine rebounds while recording five assists of his own. Meanwhile, rookie standout Chet Holmgren totaled a game-high four blocks.

Fans were amazed by Gilgeous-Alexander, as Oklahoma City is now on the verge of winning its first playoff series since 2016:

New Orleans has struggled to find an efficient top scorer after star forward Zion Williamson went down with a hamstring injury during the play-in tournament. C.J. McCollum led New Orleans with 22 shot attempts on Saturday, although he connected on just seven of them.

If the Thunder are able to win Game 4, they'll secure the organization's first playoff series sweep since 2012.

Thunder's Chet Holmgren Hypes Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as NBA MVP After Playoff Win

Chet Holmgren let the world know.

After the Oklahoma City Thunder jumped out to a 2-0 series lead over the New Orleans Pelicans in their first-round matchup with Wednesday's 124-92 victory, the big man took the microphone during his postgame interview and said, "he's too humble to say it, but this is the MVP right here. MVP of the league."

He was talking about teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who dominated the Pelicans on the way to 33 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals behind 13-of-19 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 shooting from deep.

Whenever it appeared like New Orleans would climb back into the game, Gilgeous-Alexander glided past the defense to get to the rim, drilled an outside shot or even set up teammates when needed.

He was unstoppable and efficient, which was a combination that never gave the Pelicans a chance.

Gilgeous-Alexander was named a finalist for the MVP alongside Luka Dončić of the Dallas Mavericks and Nikola Jokić of the Denver Nuggets. While he looked like the MVP during Wednesday's performance, Jokić seems to be in the driver's seat and finished the season atop NBA.com's MVP ladder.

That would give him three MVPs in the last four years, underscoring his individual dominance and current status as the best player in the league.

But the 25-year-old Gilgeous-Alexander certainly looks like someone who will win one at some point during his career.

The Oklahoma City Thunder looked the part of the top seed in the Western Conference on Wednesday.

They cruised to a 124-92 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans in Game 2 of their first-round playoff matchup at Paycom Center. They are now up 2-0 in the series and were far more dominant than they were in their Game 1 win.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was unstoppable on his way to 33 points and five assists on 13-of-19 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range, while Chet Holmgren also stuffed the stat sheet with 26 points and seven boards on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor and 3-of-5 shooting from deep.

Jalen Williams provided support with 21 points, seven assists and five boards, and all five Thunder starters finished in double figures.

The game was never truly in doubt during the second half despite 19 points from Jonas Valančiūnas for a Pelicans team that was still without Zion Williamson. It wasn't nearly enough against SGA and Co., and social media had plenty of love for the star guard:

OKC is the top seed, but the first game was a back-and-forth battle that ended in a two-point win that Gilgeous-Alexander saved with an and-1 in the final minute. With Williamson once again sidelined, the home team surely hoped to avoid such a narrow contest this time around.

And it did just that.

The Thunder wasted no time jumping out to a 13-point halftime lead with Gilgeous-Alexander dancing through the Pelicans defense and Holmgren extending his game beyond the arc and scoring down low as a matchup nightmare.

The early efficiency from the Thunder stars helped make up for a strong start from Valančiūnas, who scored the first 11 points of the game for the Pelicans.

It was Brandon Ingram doing what he could to keep New Orleans within striking distance in the third quarter, but he could only do so much. Gilgeous-Alexander was in full control as he glided to the rim, hit from the outside and even created turnovers on the defensive side.

Thanks in large part to the MVP candidate's individual dominance and a dialed in Thunder offense, the fourth quarter was all but a formality.

If the Pelicans aren't much better at home for Saturday's Game 3, this will be a quick series.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are up 1-0 after a 94-92 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night.

A tightly contested game saw the Thunder pull away in the late stages of the fourth quarter to win Game 1 against the Zion Williamson-less Pelicans. Williamson suffered a hamstring injury in New Orleans' play-in game last week and will likely miss the majority of the series.

The Thunder had a narrow lead heading into the fourth quarter, but the Pelicans came storming back to tie things up in the final minutes. With less than a minute to go, rookie phenom Chet Holmgren came up with a huge block and MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander converted a clutch and-one to give Oklahoma City a three-point cushion on the other end.

That clutch bucket helped decide the game and Gilgeous-Alexander finished the night with 28 points, six rebounds and four assists.

After the nail-biting win, fans praised the young Thunder team for the win as most of the players on the roster played in their first playoff game.

Now the top seed in the West will look to continue defending its home court in Game 2 to try to pick up a 2-0 lead in the series. Sunday's game proved to be a test with more than 40 lead changes, and Oklahoma City will be looking for a more comfortable win on Wednesday.

If anything, Sunday's game gave the Thunder's young core a taste of playoff basketball, and they should be prepared for any battle they might face in the rest of the series.

Oklahoma City will take on New Orleans in Game 2 on Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Oklahoma City Thunder superstar guard and NBA MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has agreed to a new contract with Converse that includes the introduction of his first signature shoe.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, Gilgeous-Alexander's multi-year contract extension is a "lucrative" one, and he has been given the title of creative director of Converse basketball.

Converse CEO Jared Carver confirmed in a statement that Converse will roll out a Gilgeous-Alexander signature line, and Charania noted that his first signature shoe will be released in 2025:

The 25-year-old SGA has been named an All-Star in each of the past two seasons, and he helped the Thunder secure the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference this season with a 57-25 record.

Gilgeous-Alexander first signed an endorsement deal with Converse after the 2019-20 season, and he has blossomed into one of the NBA's best players ever since.

After showing marked improvements during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons, Gilgeous-Alexander exploded in 2022-23, averaging a career-high 31.4 points per game to go along with 5.5 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals.

Gilgeous-Alexander finished fifth in the NBA MVP voting last season, and he has a legitimate chance to win the award this season after averaging 30.1 points and a career-high 6.2 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per contest.

SGA was also one of the most efficient players in the NBA this season, shooting a career-best 53.5 percent from the field.

With Gilgeous-Alexander headlining a young, talented roster that also includes Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams and Josh Giddey, the Thunder are potentially in line to be championship contenders for the next decade.

OKC is perhaps well ahead of the timeline most expected after it moved on from veterans like Paul George, Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul a few years ago.

The Thunder missed the playoffs in three consecutive seasons, however, they were the best team in the West during the 2023-24 regular season and have a legitimate chance to go the distance.

There already figures to be plenty of excitement surrounding Gilgeous-Alexander's signature shoe when it is released, but if he can lead the Thunder to a championship before then, it will become a must-have product for many.

Woj: Thunder's Mark Daigneault is NBCA's NBA Coach of the Year After Earning Top Seed

Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault was voted as the Coach of the Year by the National Basketball Coaches Association, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Monday.

Daigneault helped guide the Thunder to a record of 57-25 during the 2023-24 regular season, good enough for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. Oklahoma City has increased its winning percentage in each of the past three years under the former assistant coach.

Wojnarowski revealed that other coaches to receive votes were the Cleveland Cavaliers' J.B. Bickerstaff, the Minnesota Timberwolves' Chris Finch, the Boston Celtics' Joe Mazzulla, and the Orlando Magic's Jamahl Mosley.

Daigneault was hired as the head coach of the Thunder in 2020, although he's been a part of the organization since 2014. He started off as the head coach of the team's G League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue, before he moved to the NBA.

He's been able to develop a Thunder team that has excelled on both ends of the court, owning the second-best net rating in the association behind the 64-win Celtics (via NBA.com). Oklahoma City has remained successful despite owning one of the league's youngest rosters, as all five of the team's top scorers are younger than 26 years old.

The Thunder have been led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who has blossomed into one of the NBA's top players under Daigneault. Gilgeous-Alexander wrapped up his second consecutive year averaging at least 30 points per game, scoring 30.1 points each night on 53.5/35.3/87.4 shooting splits.

23-year-old forward Jalen Williams improved across the board during his sophomore campaign, while 7'1" center Chet Holmgren averaged 16.5 points and 2.3 blocks per game during his stellar rookie season.

The Thunder have established themselves as one of the league's top teams, which is even more impressive considering how bright the future still is for several key contributors. Under Daigneault, Oklahoma City should remain a consistent playoff contender for the foreseeable future.

There is no pretending with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

The Oklahoma City Thunder guard wants the 2023-24 NBA MVP, even if he knows players like Nikola Jokić and Luka Dončić have excellent cases as well.

"I hope I get it, yes," he said, per Tim MacMahon of ESPN. "I think all the guys are deserving, all have their case. Whatever happens, happens. But whoever gets it is deserving for sure."

Jokić has been a regular in MVP discussions of late, taking home the award in back-to-back seasons in 2020-21 and 2021-22 before finishing second to Joel Embiid last season. He is in the No. 1 position on NBA.com's MVP ladder as of Monday, and appears primed to take home the award for a third time in his career.

That would mean the Denver Nuggets big man joined the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, LeBron James, Wilt Chamberlain, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Moses Malone as the only players in NBA history to win the award three different times.

But Dončić and Gilgeous-Alexander have put up quite the case themselves with the latter leading his Thunder team to the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference over Jokić's second-seeded Nuggets.

Gilgeous-Alexander ended up averaging 30.1 points, 6.2 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 53.5 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from deep this season. He was the driving force behind the Thunder's incredible jump and will now look to lead them to a championship for the first time since the franchise was still the Seattle SuperSonics in 1979.

There may even be a Western Conference Finals showdown in store between Gilgeous-Alexander and Jokić if the seeding holds.

And they would both surely rather win that than the MVP.
